Joseph Mack stands in a media scrum outside the Powerade Centre moments after Northern Pro Wrestling Does New Years, wearing a black peacoat and jeans, towering over the handful of interviewers on the chilly night.
Reporter 1: “Any thoughts on how your match went tonight?”
Mack shrugs his large shoulders, his expression impassive.
Mack: “Disappointed. I didn’t come all the way from Montreal with plans on losing tonight. I thought I was holding up just fine against Steel and Jamester, Chase picked a good moment for that quick tag, had the advantage there on Steel for a minute. If he’d been able to get back over to tag me again…”
Mack shrugs once more.
Mack: “There’s a reason I’ve never loved being a tag team wrestler. I like being the only person I gotta rely on in a match. No beef with Chase, not like he didn’t put in the work, but it stings getting the L when you didn’t eat the pin.”
Reporter 2: “So you don’t have any hard feelings towards Bryan Chase?”
Mack shakes his head, kissing his teeth.
Mack: “Nah man. Dude’s laid up with a concussion ‘cause he busted his ass trying to take it to the Syndicate. Ain’t like he laid down for ‘em. It sucks but… it just is what it is.”
Reporter 1: “What about feelings towards The Syndicate?”
Mack smiles, just a little.
Mack: “This locker room’s big, but it ain’t that big. I don’t expect this is the last we’ll see of each other.”
Reporter 3: “You’ve got a match with Primal, one on one, on January 14th at the Cruiserweight Cup and rumour has it you’ll be competing in a battle royal in the SWAT promotion as well.”
Mack: “Yeah, a man’s gotta keep busy. Primal… that’s a weird cat, even by NPW standards. And a battle royal, every man for himself, the kinda thing where I can just launch people around? Good for working out aggressions, y’know? If you’re asking about gameplans, I ain’t at that point yet. Got video to watch, talent to scout, you know how it is. Anyway, I got a long drive ahead of me, see y’all on the 14th.”
With that Mack flips up the collar of his coat against the wind before starting across the parking lot as the shot fades out.
