With Northern Pro Wrestling Does New Years in the books, the assembled wrestling media are greeted in the press room by the victorious Jay Stevens, closely followed by the energetic “Kid Dynamite” Nicole Anderson.
“Hello everyone!” Anderson exclaims to the press with a big smile.
Having successfully vanquished Bloodline with “The Professional” Leon Van Zandt and the shocking surprise partner Dusty Griffith, Stevens enters the room with a noticeable air of satisfaction. He pulls a chair out for Anderson and then takes a seat beside her.
“I want to start by saying thank you to Leon Van Zandt and Dusty Griffith for stepping up to finally put an end to the reign of terror perpetrated in NPW by Bloodline. I am proud to call them my partners and I hope to share the ring with them again someday.”
A young reporter stands to start the questioning.
“Glenn Orvis with the Pro Wrestling Tribune. How satisfying is it to finally be free of the cloud of Bloodline hanging over you?”
“It’s like the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders and I can finally move forward,” Jay says with a smile. “I’ve freed myself of the distraction and I can focus all of my energy on success inside that ring.”
“What brought Leon Van Zandt and Dusty Griffith to your side?” Orvis continues.
“Honor. Dusty has a history with Bloodline and I knew he could help tip the scales in our favor. It took some coaxing, but I just had to remind him of what was at stake. Leon, on the other hand, believes in the sport of professional wrestling, not the sideshow. Truth, fairness, honor, these things still matter to some people.”
Jay scans the room and points to the ever-present Justin Spencer from NPW.com.
“You mentioned chasing success in the ring which leads to my question. The 3rd Annual Cruiserweight Cup has been announced and as of tonight, fully confirmed. You find yourself in the tournament for the second straight year, what do you think of the field of competitors?”
“It’s definitely an interesting group of people, I can say that much,” he chuckles. “But I stack up against them all pretty well. It’s a chance for me to take that first step toward greatness and make up for coming up short last year. I have an opportunity to etch my name on the Cruiserweight Cup and history itself.”
Spencer clears his throat and follows up, “You are sharing the same block with your ‘godfather’ Tyrone Walker. How do you see that match going?”
Jay smiles and nods along, rubbing his palms together.
“I guess the secret’s out, huh? A lot of people have been alluding to my history and my extended ‘family’. It’s not something I’m trying to hide as much as I want to stand on my own two feet without the world assuming nepotism is at work. But ‘Uncle Ty’ and I are going to have a great match, I have no doubt about that. We both want this and for different reasons. He wants to get that glory again, win back to back. I want to feel that exhilaration for the first time.”
“And the rest?” Spencer continues.
“I’m not overlooking anyone. I know that before Ty and I lock horns that I have to step in the ring with Gebin and Eron Hunter. Both are strong competitors who I am excited to test myself against. I am going into this tournament with a clear head and I am totally focused on the task ahead, and that is victory.”
“Victory!” Nicole Anderson shouts, eliciting a laugh from the reporters.
“You are going to see the best version of me yet. No more Bloodline lurking in the shadows, no more snakes waiting to attack. Just me, MY opponent, and the ring. My domain, my home.”
Stevens stands up and clasps his hands together, nodding in an appreciative “bow” as he leaves the room. Anderson rises and performs several theatre style bows before exiting.
