Justin, Oh-Oh, and 2 more like this

The media room at the Powerade Center. Gus Arnold is straightening the wrestler’s table and fielding off-the-cuff questions from reporters when “Kid Dynamite” Nicole Anderson runs into the room and hops up onto the table, startling the NPW promoter and sending the table askew. She holds up a small piece of posterboard with “3-0” written in bold, black lettering.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Anderson exclaims to the room. “Please allow me to introduce to you the man who conquered his block in the Cruiserweight Cup and went a perfect three and oh on his way to total victory… the one and only, Jay Stevens!”
Jay Stevens quietly enters the room midway through her introduction but allows his friend to indulge in the theatrics. Stevens shakes Gus’ hand and helps Anderson back down to the floor before taking his seat.
Justin Spencer, oracle for NPW.com, shoots to his feet to fire the first inquiry.
“Jay, congratulations on your win tonight over Tyrone Walker, one of your mentors, your Godfather, and a legend in the sport. You clearly won the B Block with three straight victories,” Spencer asks before quickly changing his tone. “You were noticeably absent from the press conferences for the first two Cruiserweight Cup shows, what was the reason for this?”
“Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed by it all. No disrespect to Eron Hunter or Gebin, both provided a great challenge and tested me to the very end and I need to make sure I acknowledge that. But after those two matches and knowing I was going to step into the ring against Tyrone Walker made me a bit anxious and I needed to just bite down and focus.”
“You faced Walker last year in the Cruiserweight Cup and came up short to him before he ultimately won the tournament. What was different this year?” Spencer continues.
“Confidence and experience. Last year was the first time I stepped out on my own, took the mask off and competed as me. Now I’m more aware of who that actually is.”
Spencer thanks him and takes his seat. Jay motions to the next reporter in the scrum.
“Hey Jay, Dan Jordan from ProGraps Weekly, congratulations on your success in the tournament so far. Your victory tonight puts you in the Semi-Finals against Adrien Cochrane. Your thoughts on the matchup?”
Stevens smiles and shares a sideways glance with Kid Dynamite who gives him a nod of approval.
“The ‘Dropkick King’ has come to Northern Pro Wrestling. First and foremost, we welcome him. I’ll also be the one wishing him a fond farewell. I’ve seen him wrestle before, back when I was a kid. He hasn’t improved since then as much as he just moved himself into more shallow waters. NPW isn’t that and he’s going to get dragged into the undertow when he steps into the ring with me.”
Almost as soon as Jay finishes his sentence, the room is filled with a booming voice.
“NEPHEW!”
Tyrone Walker, the Black Jesus of professional wrestling, enters the room with an enormous grin on his face. Nicole Anderson meets him as he approaches and starts to dap him up in a way that is intricate and has clearly been honed over years of repetition.
“Can y’all believe this now?” Ty addresses the gathered reporters. “Gotdamn, it’s almost like young blood learned from the best.”
Walker laughs as he throws his arms around Stevens, vigorously slapping him on the back in celebration.
“Now, I’m not tryna steal any of his shine like he did to me tonight,” Walker speaks with enthusiasm. “But before I bounce, YaBoiTy figured he’d swing on through to make sure all y’all know what’s up; and what’s up is that Jay here didn’t just beat two scrubs from the bargain bin, he beat the greatest of all time and the former champ… this guy.”
Walker points to himself with two thumbs and gets a high-five from Anderson. Stevens seems unamused as Walker grabs him by both shoulders and shakes him back and forth, chirping “Lighten up, kid, you won!” as he releases him. Walker waives and makes an exit as quickly as he had arrived.
“One more,” Gus Arnold interjects.
“Katelyn Jensen, AllWrestling.net, with your success in this tournament and a potential win giving you not only the NPW Cruiserweight Cup but also an opportunity for the XHF Junior Heavyweight Championship, what does it mean for you to have reached this level in such a short time?”
Jay pauses to let the question sink in.
“It means the world to me. It means I’m doing the right things, the right way, and that I’m on my way to the top. Winning these matches, especially against Ty, shows me that I was right to leave my comfort zone, remove the costume and finally be myself. It’s validation and confirmation that I made the right choice. And that I am only just beginning.”
Stevens stands up and thanks the reporters as he exits, leaving Nicole to charm the pool with answers to questions that haven’t been asked.
