So you’re gonna be appearing on an XHF Network global show? Wow! Great job! But wait, you’ve been so used to rping for your fed(s) and their owner(s) that you’re not exactly sure what will and won’t work from a global perspective with the Network Admins judging.
To help you in the endeavor, the XHF Network Admins have decided to produce this handy guideline that’ll let you know what it is we’re looking into. I’ll try not to be too terribly exhaustive in this.
First off, I wanted to address the issue of length. While many global matches currently carry post restrictions, the X*Crown promos are always of an unlimited size and number. This is done as a way to promote creativity in posting styles and content. This is NOT because we enjoy reading many giant rps. We’ve found that by giving a word limit- people will often type up to said limit. With no limit you don’t need to think about how long a promo is and can therefore make it as long or short as it needs to be to complete what you want to cover without feeling pressured to add a bunch of fluff to raise the word count. The same goes for the unlimited numbers- this allows for shared promos, direct reply promos, or other creative ideas rpers may think of without burning a limited number rp to get there.
The point is, let your creativity reign!
Now let’s look at some more practical things that the Network Admins are usually watching for when judging promos.
Character Building: Given the nature of global shows, this might be the first time people in other feds have seen your character. So it’s helpful to find ways to show who they are (and figure out how to introduce us to any side characters). This doesn’t have to be some big introductory promo, but at the same time it won’t really help you to just post one of those “audio” essay-style promos and assume we’ll keep up with who you are. Let the reader know what you are about; be it through being descriptive in the actions, leaning hard into the gimmick with your words, or even having an adventure or something- look I’m not your mom but I need to know who your guy is.
Match Relevancy: I know that judging based on relevancy to the match varies from fed to fed. Having said that, the Network Admins are all assuming that your promo will have at least some reference to the match your rping for. So while you’re on the global stage, make sure you are referencing the match you’re going to be in- not just the storylines from your fed which people may not be following. That said, you can absolutely use ongoing stories from your fed to feed into the promo- just make sure in the end you’re still talking about the upcoming global match.
Global Level Standards: I feel like a lot of this should go unsaid but we’ve actually got rules (CHECK THEM OUT HERE AND HERE). For one, there shouldn’t be any murder or on-camera sex. The former because it’s a literal crime you can go to jail for being broadcast on TV and the latter because you should consider the content level to be what you’d see on prime time network television (though swears are fine). Also no slurs- like absolutely not. Racism/sexism/homophobia isn’t cool at all. Just remember this is appearing on television that children will be watching with their parents because everyone likes wrestling and Proboards doesn’t like things that are too raunchy. This isn’t your place to rub one out or show us your ideas for a snuff film. You’re trying to win a wrestling match.
Going along with that sort of stuff, we observe most of the major rules of rp feds. Don’t plagiarize, don’t use other people’s characters without permission, don’t try to write other people’s stories, etc.
If you’ve got questions of if something would fly or not, just shoot it to one of the admins and they’ll let you know!
Readability: None of us are grammar Nazis- but at the same time there is something to say about how you present a promo. If you’re giving us a wall of text, you’re probably gonna have a bad time. If you are like me and make frequent typos BUT don’t actually check them, you might have a bad time. If your writing doesn’t make sense even if you turn the computer upside-down, you might have a bad time. We love creativity but we’re also humans, lol.
This isn’t like a rubric or anything as all of the Network Admins are different and our votes vary based on different things. But these are a few things we all consider when judging matches. But we love creativity! If you can think of fun ways to present things or have ideas you want to try (that aren’t too mature) GO FOR IT!
Hopefully this helps you as you explore the wild and untamed world of XHF Network Global-Level shows! Get out there and get rping! *Cracks whip*
