Rain has been pouring down, almost never ending, in the last few days. It is a calm winter evening, just like many other calm winter evenings. Eron Hunter is standing near the window, in his modest hotel room, somewhere in Europe. He looks lost in thoughts, almost amazed by something, like a small child who constantly wonders about the world and the new things he discovers every new day. Eron’s nose is pressed against the window glass, his face almost contorted.
The young man keeps on looking at the rain, and doesn´t mind the camera behind him. He takes a few deep breaths and, without looking at the camera, starts speaking in his usual tranquil tone.
“The world is an amazing place, filled with things to discover and learn each new day. Each new day is a new beginning and a possibility to fix the mistakes made the day before. Every new dawn restores the possibilities we have, to accomplish great things and move up in the world.
Now, don´t get me wrong, I do not think that we should avoid every error and look at it as if it was the worst possible thing in this planet. Mistakes are there to be made, because they give us the possibility to learn. Without mistakes and without experience we would be like blank charts, never bettering ourselves.
But some mistakes are to be avoided, because most of them are experience, sure, but some of them can be so grave that they influence an entire existence for the worst. Which ones do I talk about, you ask? Well, it depends on the reality you live in and the role you have in life.
For fighters, one of the gravest ones, and definitely a Sin, is Underestimation. It is the doom for each and every aspiring athlete, for each and every Shining Star! For each and every Eron Hunter and Myojin. If you are an elite athlete and competing with the best of the best, you should never underestimate, because if you do, the chance that you fail and fall down is bigger than any other possibility.
Now, you and me, Myojin
We are similar in some ways. We both have underestimated and still managed to get over it. With intuition and skill, we managed to overcome the odds and still emerge victorious. But, man, did we grandly fail in perceiving the situation in the right manner.
You underestimated your last opponent, almost costing you that crown you so much like to love.
I underestimated the man which i faced in the tournament finals, in our prior match, almost costing me the tournament victory.
We were given second chances, and I am sure that we both have learned from our mistake. We both have learned never to take too lightly again. But why did that happen? I think it happened because of our background. Because of the families we were raised in. We both come from families with long and successful stories; both were taught to live the life with a certain feeling of superiority.
So, we´re similar, again
But that´s where the similarity ends.
After that, we take different approaches as far as dealing with our lineage goes. You have always looked upon your successful family members with respect and have always wished to become like them. I, on the other side, have always respected my family but have moved as far as possible from them, as I could. I never wanted to be another shadow figure to some successful people. I wanted to be my own person.
And I have achieved just that.
We differ in many ways, Myojin, but we still respect each other. But, just because we respect each other, it doesn’t mean we want to go easy on each other as well. On the contrary, especially because of that, we are inclined to bring up our A Game when we will finally face each other in that very ring.
We study each other and try to discover each and every shortcoming the other one has, just so that we can use that to our advantage. Sure, I got a bad knee and I know you know that and I am sure you will go after that, but I also know it and I know every possible way a fighter has to defend his old wounds.
You are shorter and much more of a lightweight, but I am sure you have been studying every possible way to capitalize on that and turn it to your favor. It would be stupid of me to think that just because I am bigger and heavier, that I will have an easy way against you. I am sure the world is filled with opponents who thought just that, and ended up beaten from Myojin.
Yes, I have a special fighting style, I will kick your teeth out and suplex you to the fiery depths of hell, but that´s not what my advantage against you is. The real advantage I have is my fighting spirit, my unbroken will and my passion for the fight.
Tell me, Myojin, how do you defeat a man who stands up over and over again, no matter how many times you roundhouse kick him on the mat? How do you prevail against an adversary who won´t stand down, no matter how many times you put his lights out?
I tell you how
You can´t…
I, Eron Hunter, am Undefeatable!
I won´t say I am unbeatable, no; I am beatable, just like any other stink normal human being. What I am not, what you can´t do any given day is to defeat me. Nobody has done it, ever; nobody will ever manage to do it.
The only one who can defeat Eron Hunter is…
…Eron Hunter himself.
The moment I stop believing in myself, that very moment in which I let my warrior spirit die, in that very moment I will be defeated by the one and only, Eron Hunter. That´s right Myojin. There are people in this world who can claim that they have beaten me, but there Is no living soul who can say they have bested me and Defeated me. And you, dear friend, will not be the one who is able to say that. Eron´s defeat might be lurking somewhere around the corner, but it won’t happen today and it won´t happen in our next fight.
Now, I respect you Myojin, I think you are a great fighter.
I like you; I think that despite your flamboyant looks, you are a modest and good hearted kid.
I value this chance, which I managed to get, more than anything else right now, and I think that fighting against the cruiserweight world champion is an experience that I absolutely have to enjoy. And I will do just that.
I will fight with Dignity and Honor and, win or lose, I am sure I will walk into that ring just like I will walk out of it, with my head held high. There is no malice in our souls, we both have pure and kind intentions and we see this world the only way we can, with untainted warrior spirits.
I am a warrior and a Hero of this Modern Arena.
And so are you, Myojin.
Let´s make this a fight to remember.
One for the ages. One that makes a victor out of both of us.
Rejoice Myojin. It´s a grand era for the two of us. Win or Lose”
Eron smiles softly, looking outside of the window, again. He appears lost in thoughts, distant even. The camera focuses on him for some more moments, slowly fading to black after that.
The soft winter rain does not scare him, nor does it scare the desire he has to walk in these, briefly, abandoned city streets. On the contrary, he loves those moments, the moments in which the whole city seems to belong to him. Eron Hunter is a solitary wolf, loner by nature, but that doesn´t mean he has no people he loves or dreams. He still has. His dreams are what drives him forward, his passion, what gives him might.
He still has goals to achieve and passions to live. They are part of the blood that fills his veins, something he cannot live without. His fervor is the fight. The victorious moments, in which the crowd chants his name, are what makes his existence worth experiencing.
He is a gladiator of the modern era, and there is nothing else he would love to be. Having found his purpose in life, his whole being is in peace and harmony.
Eroon Hunter, the fighter, the combatant.
Just like that. Just the way it should be.
