Downtown New Orleans at dusk. The New South, Waylon Kirk and Beau Traywick, sit on the steps in front of a cathedral. Both men stare quietly in to the distance, not at anything in particular. It’s written on their faces that they’re focused on their NLW PPV debut this weekend. Waylon Kirk begins to speak.
Waylon: I’m not a pious man. Hell, I’m certainly not a religious man. Honestly, I wouldn’t even claim to be a good or kind man. What I am though….is a man of action. A man willing to grab an opportunity, to do whatever it takes to make a point. I’m also a man who surrounds himself with like minded people. People like my best friend, brother and tag team partner here.
Waylon slaps Beau on the chest as he speaks about him. Beau stares at the camera, almost through it.
Beau: Action is something we have seen little of since we came to the NLW. We’ve heard an awful lot though. You want to know why we crowned ourselves as champions? Because no one else had the balls to do it. Want to know why Jason Long got his face kicked in and his head bounced off the mat? Because he opened his mouth but didn’t take any action. He was so used to passiveness that he thought he could say whatever he wanted to the New South with no consequences.
A priest comes to the men holding a small bowl in his hand. The New South stand and the priest places an ashen cross on both of their foreheads and they walk away. It is now that we see they are wearing their homemade NLW Tag Team titles around their waists.
The camera follows the two men as they walk away from the church and down a New Orleans sidewalk.
Waylon: Let me be clear about something - something I want the New Age Killers and all of this promotion to understand. When a dog is hungry, it’s going to eat. Whether it’s fed or whether it has to bite its owner - that dog will not go hungry.
Beau: We’re hungry. We’re starving. Jason Long and James Raymond - you’ve got a few days to prep, practice and get ready. But the thing is, you don’t know what you’re in for. If we have to drag you to hell, break out the hoodoo - whatever it takes. Come hell or high water, the New South is not walking out of Masquerade without your blood on our hands and a win under our belt.
The two men turn in to a graveyard and continue to walk and address the camera.
Waylon: As I said, I’m not a religious man but I certainly appreciate some Christian teachings. The fire and brimstone sermons I grew up listening to in a small Baptist church are the same intensity that Beau and myself will carry in to Masquerade when we take on the New Age Killers. That level of intensity, the red face, vein in the neck popping - that is how we are approaching this match.
The New South stop now. All of their focus is solely on the camera, looking straight at Jason Long and James Raymond.
Beau: That’s not all we can appreciate though. We love the concept of lent, of abstaining from things. So consider this our way of putting all of NLW on notice. The New South is abstaining from mercy. From holding back. The time for games and getting adjusted are over. If it takes driving the head of every last member of the locker room through the mat. If we have to kick in office doors and beat the ever loving hell out of BB Gunn himself. As god as our witness, there will be no doubt, no mercy and no shame. New Age Killers? We’re gonna put that name to the test this Saturday.
Waylon: Prepare for war boys because we’re going to drive a fucking tank straight through you.
Beau: See ya'll real soon...
The New South turn away from the camera and walk away through the graveyard as the scene fades to black.
