“Lock it tight! No! I said tight!”
The scene, a small warehouse with a ring setup in the middle. The lights hanging from the ceiling, and banners of companies and accolades hanging from the rafters. A cold wind wisps under the garage door that just misses the concrete floor that it is supposed to rest on. Inside the ring, in the corner is Jesse Jamester, dressed in his gear but with no mask on. The long hair pulled back into a ponytail. The person he is yelling at is his son Julius, who is tying up with a bald fella with a gnarly beard and high cheekbones.
Jesse: I expect you to be green, but I didn’t expect all these bad habits!
Julius: What are you talking about?! That was crisp!
Jesse: If you can’t do a tie up in your sleep, you’re doing it wrong!
Stepping in, Jesse nods at the bald man and he moves aside. Motioning with his hands, he tells Julius to come in, and the two tie up aggressively. Jesse muscles his son around and then lets him push him back a bit before shooting under the arm, controlling his wrist, and locking up a wrist lock behind Julius.
Jesse: This should be fluid, like that. If you stutter on the basics, you’ll look like shit and get called on it aye. Do NOT let me see you get lazy.
Letting go of the wrist, Jesse steps back to the corner and the bald man comes back in to practice with Julius. The young man was a spitting image of his father, except not as bulky and with short blonde hair, no tattoos or scars, so basically a younger version of Jesse. His eyes sold it, and were the distinct feature that told you the blood that ran through his veins, as the steel gray sapphire eyes could be seen in a winter storm like a night walker.
Jesse: I’m not giving you an inch kid. I want you to respect this ring and the industry I have dedicated my life to. I’ve trained some great talent, but that talent only got them so far. If you get too big for your britches, you’ll end up on your ass.
Julius: Sounds like you know from experience.
Jesse: You watched it happen at Vicious Valentines. I knew I had it in the bag, and what happened?
Julius: Wylie coyote moment.
Jesse: Aye.
The bald man looks up at the clock, and Jesse notices, seeing his attention elsewhere.
Jesse: I’ll take over if you got somewhere to be.
The man nods. Without saying a word he makes his exit from the ring, and begins to head for the table next to it with jackets, bags, and gear on it.
Julius: What about the Dark Stars?
Jesse: They are the champs, for now. Never count your pay day before you’re handed it. Some nights, it’s your back on the mat. Don’t take it personally. It happens, and we aren’t any lesser for it.
Julius: Lesser? Dad, it took two men to pin you! Lord Dominicus got lucky, I saw your shoulder up.
Jesse: No-no you didn’t. They got me dead to rights on that one bud. Don’t make excuses, just prove you won’t make the same mistake twice, aye?
Motioning with his hands, the two circle the ring opposite one another. Jesse nods for Julius to take the initiative, the tell to begin, sometimes this is a wink, a poke, a smack, or just trash talk - but at the foundation of every match, there was the square off, the collar elbow tie up, or a fake tie up kick, as Jesse just displayed. Catching his son in the gut, he pats his back as he grabs his wrist and irish whips him to the ropes. Rebounding back Julius ducks the clothesline, bounces off the other side, Jesse hits the canvas at the feet of Julius who trips up as he heads to the ropes again. Barely recovering from the trip up, Julius is able to keep his feet under him to smack his side off the ropes. Turning his head back around to be met with a super kick!
Clean off the shoulders, Jesse sends Julius to the mat with one motion. Pulling his leg down to the mat, he looks down at his son who appears to have broken his nose.
Jesse: Lean up on the rope. If you get up to fast you’ll bleed everywhere.
Shaking off the initial impact, Julius is dazed and confused, seeing stars like he was in a cartoon. Jesse leans over, and pulls him up to the bottom rope, leaning his shoulders on it.
Jesse: Breath through your mouth. Now listen up. You caught that head on because you lost control. That can’t happen again. I was warning you with that kick, the next guy, he isn’t going to be so nice. The most important thing to learn in this ring is protecting yourself. Always, protect yourself son.
Coughing up air, Julius’ looking crossed eye at his nose as the blood rushes down into his mouth and chin.
Jesse: I protect my team. They protect me. It’s business. That - is why we have this opportunity. Scott Steel and I knew we had something special. I’ll golf clap for the Dark Stars, they’ve kept the belts for this long. To think they won’t try something with the Dark Novas to come out of this with the win, not doubting it. No, you see I tore this down and built it up so many times, I’ve already seen the finish in my head and it’s not changing. Jester Plex, Power bomb, your shoulders, my elbow across the face, 3 count - Syndicate wins. Game over Dark Stars. Thanks for trying.
To be continued.
