The garage is dimly lit and almost empty. In one corner, near the wall, there is a big bike. All black, with some silver linings, and a golden “Shadow” written on the right side of the engine. Eron goes near the big motorcycle and starts caressing it, as if he was caressing a living being.
This piece of metal and fuel, it is a representative of Eron Hunter´s dreams and vagabond spirit. When he was a small child, all what Eron Hunter wanted was to ride a big motorcycle in the great and desolate American Highways.
That was a symbol of freedom for the youngster, Eron Hunter. It was also an equivalent of his dreams of independence. Later, when he managed to travel the world and be a vagabond, that old motorcycle became a symbol of his ideals.
And now, now that the fighter Eron Hunter, is living his dreams and experiencing them firsthand, this motorcycle has become a symbol of complacence. Something the young fighter knows should never happen to someone that wants to be at the top, which wants to breathe the pure oxygen of the highest heights.
Complacence is something that Hunter knows he should never allow himself to have. Because if you start to believe you got it all figured and need not to develop any further, be it as a fighter or as a human being, in that same moment you will find yourself dropping from the peaks of the Himalaya, to the fiery depths of hell.
Guess that is what happened to Jonny Valentine, after he suffered a loss at the hands of Eron Hunter. He had become complacent, he thought he had it all figured out. He thought Eron Hunter was a good hand, but he, Jonnie Valentine, was in another level of skill and experience.
Guess that is what happened to Eron Hunter himself, after winning that cruiserweight tournament, in the match against Myojin. He became complacent for a fragment of second, time enough for Myojin to emerge victorious from the clash between them.
And surely that is what happened to Jay Stevens, after being unbeaten in the tournament, thinking that he had that final fight in the bag, without ever doubting it for one second. Now he finds himself speculating about how it would´ve been different if he, Jay Stevens, had been there fighting Myojin. He surely thinks he would’ve fared better, against the XHF Junior Heavyweight Champion.
Eron Hunter smiled, and shook his head just as if he disagreed with Stevens on the subject. If he, Stevens, believed he was better than Hunter, then all he would have to do was to prove it in the ring, without doing too much blabbing about it.
Hunter caressed the old Motorcycle some more instants, and then turned his back on it, pacing away and shaking his head while doing so. Dreams are such a sweet sin, and we all are sinners when it comes to that. We all want to dream our dreams, but the problem is that it takes strength to do so.
Because sometimes, reaching for your dreams, means leaving the comfort of the secure behind. Not everyone is willing to do so, throw everything away and start over and over again until they finally achieve what they so long desired.
Would Jay Stevens be able to throw everything he knew away, and become an entirely new entity, would he be able to reinvent himself, just that so he could achieve what he wanted? Easy to say, difficult to do. Throwing all your usual patterns away just for a single victory, not even being sure that you will get that very triumph?
It meant gambling high.
Was Stevens a gambler? Would he be able to go that extra mile, just for a victory over Hunter?
Well, he had to. He had to give one hundred percent, or else he would fail.
If he could not reinvent himself anew, he would be just a copycat of his oh so prestigious uncles and fathers. He would be just a follow up of a follow up.
That, was a mistake Jay Stevens would not be able to forgive himself. Losing is one thing, but losing and not knowing where you end and where your lineage begins, that was not a mistake.
That was a sin!
A sin which had a huge price.
A price not everyone was able to pay.
Eron Smiled and closed the garage door. Outside the sun was shining and the birds were chirping, just as If nothing had happened.
And the sky was always blue.
