It’s a cold winter day. When isn’t it a cold winter day this time of the year though? We see an old man laying in bed alone. We see a picture of two younger people on the bedside table. The old man sits up and swings his legs to the bedside, rubbing his knees some. His wrinkly hands outstretched to grab the picture by his bedside. He looks mournful as he looks at the picture before putting it back.
We hear some cracking and popping as he stands up and walks towards his dresser. He puts on a pair of pants and a shirt before heading into the bathroom. He brushes his teeth before closing the door. We hear what sounds like someone pissing and then the flush of a toilet. He goes out and heads towards the kitchen shortly afterwards.
He gets a bowl and some milk before pouring it into the bowl. It keeps pouring as he just stares blankly. Soon after he drops the carton and the bowl spills and drops to the floor. He continues to stare at something as the cereal scatters and the bowl shatters. The milk takes over the floor like british tried to take over every piece of land known to man.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!
We hear a loud scream from off camera as we see an older woman in her mid to late 50’s rush towards him.
“Dad! Dad what’s wrong?!” she screams.
Sanada seemingly snaps out of it at the sound of her voice as he notices what’s happened.
“I… I’m sorry dear. I don’t… i don’t know what’s going on… i was… what was i doing again?” inoki says.
His daughter helps him sit down in a nearby chair as she picks up his mess. After, she sits down at the table with him.
“Dad it’s getting worse now. Whatever this is is starting to get worse.”
“I’m fin-”
“DON’T!” she interrupts.
“Don’t… just don’t. You are not fine dad” she continues.
“I’m… i don’t know what i am anymore sweetie. Thank you for stopping by.”
“Dad you’re going to get hurt if you don’t do something… listen, i’m worried ok?”
“I know… but i can’t stop…”
“Can’t stop what? Wrestling?! Are you kidding me?!”
“It’s all i have lef-”
“BULLSHIT! You have me! You have your grandkids and your son!”
“I’m sorry… i’m…”
“No… no i’m sorry. I shouldn’t of yelled. We always knew you loved it more tha-”
“That’s not fair! I always loved you kids. Your mom. I did everything i could to provide for you all. I was a star you know! I had the whole wo-”
“We know dad, we know! You used to be loved by all of japan and now no one even remembers who you are. We hear the same story every day! Dad this isn’t about wrestling. Dad, we’re… we’re worried about you. You haven’t been the same for a long while now.” they say.
“We just want you to go to the doctors and get checked out. Please?”
He sighs thinking hard.
“Ok honey. Ok…”
The screen fades as we pan up to the ceiling. We see a transition to see a hospital now. Sanada can then be seen in a doctors room. He’s looking down with his hands clasped together. A doctor walks in and greets him soon after.
“What did the tests say doc?”
“Mr.Inoki i’m afraid we have some bad news.”
“Bad news? What kind of bad news?”
“The lapses of memory, the blackouts you keep having. These are common symptoms for Dementia.”
Sanada covers his face, trying to hold it all in.
“I’m afraid this is fairly common thing among those in your age group. This isn’t a disease persay, but it does lead to significant decline in your cognitive ability.”
“Can you tell me what all that means in Japanese doc?”
“Your brain is slowly losing function and your going to continue to forget how to do things as well as memories. I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do to change or stop this either Mr.Inoki. You can live with it for many more years. But depending on how bad it gets you may have to be put into a care center or something like that.”
“So i can’t wrestle no more? i ‘m not even going to remember my kids and grandkids anymore?”
“That only occurs within the middle to later stages, but hopefully those won’t occur. I’d suggest you try not to do a whole lot of work, especially if it could be dangerous.”
“So i’m just stuck like this? I’m just…”
“I’m sorry sir. The best you can do now is enjoy the rest of your days with your family and loved ones.”
We fade away to black as we hear a loud cry.
