Hey FIRESIDE Faithful,
Hope all is well with all of you. First things first: this isn’t a closing post or anything like that, so take a deep breath. FIRESIDE is burning as bright as ever, and that’s thanks to you lovely lot for putting out such kickass content ever show. That being said, there’s a handful of announcements to run through that I didn’t have the time to write up yesterday:
1) I got a new job!
After 250+ applications (I’m not exaggerating), I have a new position doing a lot of marketing/branding/project work. I’m thrilled for it because I’m going to be working with some very smart people and getting out of a job I really started to hate.
While a good thing for me, the thing about the job I’m leaving is I often wrote large chunks of our shows at my desk (it’s a long story, no one knows, though I did have a nightmare someone read my messages about the SPARK Championship once). While I will be working remotely going forward, I’m expecting the position to be much more hands-on and my time during the day to be greatly lessened.
Going forward, I will still be handling a lot of the work around here, but expect fewer 5,000 word epics. I’ll still bang ‘em out from time to time, but you’re going to see the general word count slim down to somewhere in between last Inferno and Fuel for the Fire’s levels. Shows will still be stacked with excitement, talent, and most importantly fun, but if a banger can be written in 2,000 words instead of 4,000, I’d rather write a tight banger that is more enjoyable and palpable.
This also leads to our second announcement...
2) Please welcome Vodka Fizz to the admin team!
FIRESIDE’s first non-me admin is here! Please welcome Vodka Fizz (aka Tommy Strychnine for those of you following the AWF). Fizz has been working with us for a long time, and was actually our first guest writer, writing the Jack’s Pumpkin Glow match. Fizz is a creative mind who will help with booking, match writing, and continuing to build the show into something special. Behind the scenes, we’re still figuring out exactly what that all means, but please give him a warm and hearty welcome, and be nice.
Other notes:
A) Any matches featuring Vodka Fizz or myself will be judged by at least one Network admin. I don’t actively compete for FIRESIDE championships -- Fizz is going to stay on for now as a wrestler, but there will be no bias. He’ll have to earn anything he gets, just the same as all of you.
B) I’m also just happy for him and happy for all of you for a variety of reasons, but I think importantly, having another RP judge on staff is really helpful. I know undefeated streaks will probably never exist in FIRESIDE due to the high talent level across the board, but I’ve felt bad in the past handing out ‘L’s when it’s been just one person’s opinion. Art is subjective, ya know.
C) This was always somewhat in the plans. I am a proud person who would have loved to one-man army this for forever, but it's become clear that sharing in the vision is more rewarding and also makes more sense for the longevity of FIRESIDE. I was expecting this announcement to come after COVID wrapped up, so it's a little earlier than my initial plans, but that's not a bad hing.
3) Want to join us? We have another spot(s) open!
I am actively looking for a third FIRESIDE admin, and if I find two great candidates I’d even be open to a fourth. My goals for admins are as follows: 1) feel appreciated, 2) don’t get burned out, 3) feel like you’re making a positive impact, and 4) grow. I am a former AWF admin after all, and my work there was crucial for running my own place. If you’re excited to get better at something and want to do something hands-on, come talk to me. As 2020’s Match Writer of the Year around here, happy to have guest writers come on for a match or so and happy to help people get stronger at the crat.

1) Join us for Battle of the Best II (or not!)
Battle of the Best II will be live on June 17th and 18th. It is set up to be a two-night, single-elimination tournament featuring 8 FIRESIDE and 8 non-FIRESIDE wrestlers. The RP window will likely be May 28th to 11:59PMET on June 10th. The current idea is for writers to write 1 short RP (<500 words), 1 medium RP (<1000 words) and 1 long RP (<1500 words) total. The winner will receive a world championship match or X-Crown championship match on a future show (depending on if we have it in our company) and be given the moniker ‘The Best’.
A) If you’re a non-FIRESIDE wrestler or have a secondary/primary wrestler that isn’t a member of FIRESIDE and would like to enter, message me and you’ll be automatically included.
B) FIRESIDE members over the next few shows will participate in qualifying matches to enter the tournament. This is mostly for story purpose; everyone who wants to be in the tournament will have the same chances, and those who don’t make the tournament will still be booked on the show (we will still have all the required title matches for example, the world champ is NOT defending against all of the tournament entrants).
C) If you hate tournaments and a part of FIRESIDE, message us and I’ll make sure to book you accordingly. If you have ideas and love tournaments, also message us. More details will follow, but this is generally the core concepts.
2) Jump in the XHF Rumble!
There’s an entire separate post here about why you should join in the Rumble (https://xhf09.proboards.com/thread/19254/xhf-rumble-incentives), a giant battle royale for all of the XHF taking place in April. But if you need a reminder on the incentives, here’s what three of your fellow FIRESIDERs are already competing for:
What are the incentives?
• Enter and participate (at least one RP): you’ll receive a SPARK Championship Match (if you defend that three times, you earn a world title match).
• Finish in the top half of RPers: earn incentive #1 and be entered into a world championship contendership match against every other incentive #2 claimant. The winner of that match wins a FIRESIDE World Championship Match.
• Finish in the top ten: you’ll receive an automatic FIRESIDE World Championship Match.
• Eliminate Anthony Caffrey: earn a special bonus (to be discussed privately).
3) Start thinking about Call to Arms!
In May/June (date TBA), the XHF Network is bringing back last year’s successful five-on-five tournament. Assemble a team of five with your alternate characters, friends or fedmates and make a run at winning the tournament -- winners are all automatically added to the X-Crown qualifiers for Overheated, and those winners go on to compete for the Crown at Night of Champions. Teams don’t have to all be from one company, but let me know if you’re thinking about it as I’d love to help our people and potentially assemble team FIRESIDE I will roll out incentives on this as a later date (mostly when I actually know when CTA is).
4) Murder Hornet Hell!
Get bent, Team USA and New Age Killers. You’re going down.
Love y’all and keep up the great work.
Take care of one another,
Caff
