(Scene opens on a studio news desk set up within the familiar confines of the WWX Xcess Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sitting by the desk is WWX commentator, Gary Lane.)
Lane: Hello WWX fans, Gary Lane here. Welcome back to WWX Xcess Xtra. My guest at this time is none other than the WWX International Champion, Willie Steen.
(The camera cuts to a shot of Willie Steen sitting in his living room in front of a camera, wearing a classic “Insurgence” t-shirt. Draped across his lap is the clean and freshly polished, International Championship belt. Steen flashes the camera his trademark grin.)
Lane: Willie, thanks for taking the time to do this.
Steen: Hey, for you and the Willie Steen faithful, anything.
(Steen winks at the camera and grins. The camera then cuts to a split-screen shot of both Lane and Steen.)
Lane: Willie, I wanna start off by again saying congratulations on winning the International Championship. How does it feel to be a grand slam champion?
Steen: Well, you know
Lane: Well, it was quite the celebration last Monday.
Steen: Did you get your In n Out burger? I told the guy to save you one.
Lane: I appreciate that, Willie. Quite the celebration indeed. However, the night didn’t end quite as I’m sure you would have hoped as later in the show you and your tag team partner, AJR, were defeated by Guru Kawa and Bootleg Dragon, in what was a fairly surprising upset. What affect does a loss like this have on you going forward.
Steen: Yeah definitely a bit of an unexpected party foul, there. Credit to Guru and Dragon for getting one over on us. And as you know, I’m not one to make excuses. But, I will say that my tag team partner seemed a little less than enthusiastic to be out there. Would’ve prepared myself a bit differently if I’d known it was gonna be a handicap match. But, I digress. What’s in the past, is in the past. And the Cool Factor is looking towards the future. In this case, the future is a one-on-one non-title match against Mayhem at Ravage next week.
Lane: How confident are you going into this match, especially considering that you’ve never faced him before?
Steen: Last week, Guru Kawa caught me with my pants down. That won’t happen this time around. You see, I still got my eye on the big prize and if I have any hope of winning this Coliseum Cup tourney, I can’t afford any more letdowns. Besides, taking that L in my coronary match as International Champion left a sour taste in my mouth, as I’m sure it did for my fans as well. The only thing that’s gonna wash this nasty taste outta my mouth is getting back in the win column.
Lane: I know you’ll put on a show for us, Will. Last thing, later on the night, after your match last week, your tag team partner, AJR, demanded a rematch for the International Championship. He was then offered an interesting ultimatum by general manager, James Ranger. As the champ, are you at all concerned about any potential alliances or conspiracies.
Steen: Heavy is the head that wears the crown, am I right?
(Steen picks up the championship belt on his lap and tosses it across his shoulder.)
Steen: Look, I didn’t bust my ass to win this belt just so to sit on the sidelines with it and sip Gatorade. AJR wants his rematch, just tell me when and where. I’ll bring the belt, you bring your candy ass. As far as any potential alliances go, AJR made it very clear that he wants nothing to do with James Ranger. I’m somewhat inclined to believe him. Then again, I also know how badly he wants to recapture this belt. And given the way he dogged me in our tag match, my trust in him is understandably shaken. And when it comes to James Ranger, I know damn well better than to trust him with anything. So I guess you can say I’ll be sleeping with one eye open for a while.
Lane: Well, Willie we wish you good luck and look forward to seeing you in action.
Steen: Thanks Lane. Keep it cool.
(The camera cuts back to a full screen shot of Lane)
Lane: Alright, thanks Willie. We’ll be right back with more after this.
(The Xcess Xtra theme begins to play as scene quickly fades to the logo. After a few seconds the scene fades to black.)
