I heard a podcast today where the hosts did this and it sounded fun. It did also take some time, so do it when your bored.
For me, I'm a huge comic nerd, so the end of my list is very comic book movie heavy, but you only get one pick, so it also got really tough since three to four comic book movies come out a year now. It's like picking your favorite child. Also, I haven't seen a ton of older "good" movies, so you may disagree with a lot of them for that reason. But remember, these are your favorite movies per year, not the best movies per year.
84- Ghostbusters 85- Back to the Future 86- Labyrinth 87- Masters of the Universe (best monarch villian in any film, Skeletor was so quotable!) 88- Who Framed Roger Rabbit 89- Batman 90- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 91- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (Both are still great to watch) 92- Aladdin 93- Tombstone (The best non-John Wayne Western) 94- Forrest Gump (This was a tough year for me to decide, but gotta side with the Hanks) 95- Tommy Boy 96- Spy Hard 97- Fifth Element 98- Wedding Singer 99- The Matrix 00- X-Men 01- Memento 02- Spider-Man (I waited so long for this movie, I don't care if it doesn't hold up to the test of time) 03- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King 04- Spider-Man 2 05- Constantine (Barely edging out Batman Begins for me) 06- Clerks 2 07- Hot Fuzz 08- Dark Knight (Even though Spider-man is my love, this is the best comic book movie, for now) 09- Watchmen 10- Toy Story 3 (This was a great year for animated films) 11- Captain America: The First Avenger 12- The Avengers (Such a great ensemble movie) 13- The Wolverine 14- Gaurdians of the Galaxy (Just plain fun) 15- Mad Max: Fury Road (That's right, it beats out Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7) 16- Deadpool (I also waited so long for this, and I could watch it over and over) 17- Logan (so far)

86- The Fly
87- No Way Out
88- Child's Play
89- Batman (This was the lone good one in the original franchise before it all quickly began going downhill until "Begins" finally rescued us from the abyss much later on...)
90- Home Alone (Gotta love the character of Kevin McCallister kickin' ass and takin' names using all sorts of brilliant/elaborate Booby traps in order to protect his home turf from the 2 infamous nemesis burglars, Harry and Marv.)
91- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (Other than "Taken" and the Home Alone movies, this is my favorite actual extended franchise ever, it doesn't get much better than these original Turtle movies.)
92- Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (This is my other go-to movie to watch around Christmas every year besides Jingle All The Way, this is one time where the sequel somehow shockingly topped the original and I didn't think that was possible with how great #1 truly was.)
93- The Fugitive (This is my all-time favorite movie, bar none, and always will be no matter what. I've legitimately re-watched this who knows how many times ever since it came out way back then, and never once does it get old, it just gets BETTER every time and that is a true testament to both Harrison Ford/Tommy Lee Jones and their epic performances throughout this entire movie. Other than Bryan Mills from the "Taken" movie franchise, the Richard Kimble character is genuinely my favorite movie character of all-time due to just how well Harrison portrayed it here.)
94- The Shawshank Redemption (I've now seen this movie an obscene amount of times, and I quickly came to appreciate why it is a candidate in many people's eyes for all-time GOAT movie in general, every aspect intrigues me and the final scene of the movie which takes place on a beach never fails to tug at my heart strings, given the overall sequence of events which have led up to it.)
95- Mortal Kombat (I actually had a cousin around the same age who during the mid '90s I always used to play the game itself with constantly anytime I went over to his house, and so I naturally came to love the movie itself based upon that when it finally came out.)
96- Jingle All The Way (This is my 2nd favorite movie all-time behind strictly The Fugitive, and no matter what, as a tradition I now ALWAYS make it priority on Christmas Day every year without fail to re-watch this movie, Schwarzenegger/Sinbad flat out KILLED it together as Co-Stars and no movie on earth can make me laugh my ass off non-stop the way this one permanently does, and the other best part of this movie is when freaking Paul Wight/BIG SHOW of all people makes a ridiculously great and perfectly-timed cameo in it too, he and Arnie have a hysterical showdown of sorts at one point.)
97- Con Air (I've re-watched this movie SO many times over the years and somehow it never gets old still whatsoever, I'm such a sucker for mid to late 90's popcorn action movies like this, lol, Face/Off from Nicolas Cage during 1997 was also tremendous to me and would've been my other pick here if not for the masterpiece known as Con Air.)
98- U.S. Marshals (This was the "sequel" of sorts to my all-time favorite movie The Fugitive, so of course I ended up loving it nearly equally. It wouldn't have been as good if Tommy Lee Jones wasn't also in this one in order to reprise his signature role of Marshal Samuel Gerard, so thank goodness that he was, and Snipes/Downey Jr. helped form a perfect trio of main stars for this movie.)
99- Bicentennial Man (There's always been something about this movie that really struck a chord with me ever since I first watched it long ago, and the story it tells overall is pretty damn awesome from start to finish. RIP Robin Williams, btw.)
00- Gone in Sixty Seconds (Once again, much like with both Face/Off & Con Air, I'm such a damn Nicolas Cage fan, lol, and I can't even count how many times I've watched all 3 of these movies by him every single time they re-air on various TV channels, which happens to be VERY often since they were all big box office smashes and rightfully so due to their quality.)
01- Rat Race (This movie makes me laugh out loud in a way that really only "Jingle All The Way" can as well.)
02- Catch Me If You Can (This movie reminds me a lot of The Fugitive, which is what drew me to it so much in the first place a while back.)
03- Runaway Jury
04- Walking Tall (Dwayne Johnson/Rock at his finest in this movie as a pure, relentless ass-kicker, yet his character still retains a great moral compass at the same time.)
05- Batman Begins (What a great, serious reboot starring Christian Bale that changed EVERYTHING for this franchise in a positive way after those 90's comedic clunkers which to me were all downright horrendous, lol.)
06- Deja Vu (Very underrated movie from Denzel Washington here that I stumbled across a while back.)
07- The Number 23 (Great rare psychological thriller from Jim Carrey.)
08- Legit tie between Liam Neeson's "Taken" & The Dark Knight (As far as Dark Knight goes, I completely agree Randy that this is still the greatest comic book movie there ever was. I remember when we even had a monster thread going over on the XHF: No Mercy board in anticipation of it, lol, the sheer hype in advance for this movie was UNREAL and it more than delivered in the end.)
09- Fast & Furious
10- RED
11- X-Men: First Class
12- The Avengers (Once again, on the topic of Avengers, I agree with ya here Randy, this movie was stellar all around and perfectly introduced this group to the mainstream movie audience in the best way imaginable.)
13- Iron Man 3 (Other than Deadpool, Tony Stark is my current favorite movie franchise superhero, Downey Jr. has undoubtedly brought this legendary role to life in a way no one else possibly could have, good luck to whoever else has to try and replace him someday as the next Iron Man, they'll be needing it, LOL.)
14- The Equalizer (An f'n AWESOME movie from Denzel Washington, total badass character and I'm so glad this movie is getting a well-deserved sequel in 2018.)
15- Furious 7 (I've been a massive Fast & Furious fan all along, and Rock joining Vin Diesel for this most recent batch of them, particularly this installment, just put it over the top in my unapologetic love for this franchise, especially following the untimely death of Paul Walker, so Dwayne is the absolute savior this series badly needed now for future purposes.)
16- Deadpool (Yet again, agreed Randy, this movie is one of the greatest I've ever seen period and I'm so damn hyped already for Deadpool 2 next year. Good grief Reynolds was BORN to play him, and it showed right away in this debut movie for the franchise. This character is the literal CM Punk of comic book movies now, with the breaking of the 4th wall constantly and all, lol, Deadpool is simply, The Man.)
17- Logan (This one is #2 now on my all-time comic book-based movie list only behind Dark Knight, and that's only because of Ledger's utter greatness as Joker. But man, what an amazing movie here as well, and such a fitting sendoff for both Jackman/Stewart in their now-iconic roles as Wolverine/Professor X respectively.)

85- Godzilla 1985 86- Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (This is one of the best Star Trek movies, hands down [Honorable mention: The Transformers: The Movie]) 87- Spaceballs (This came out the same year as Princess Bride?!) 88- Who Framed Roger Rabbit 89- Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (I might be the only person on earth who likes this movie) 90- Home Alone 91- The Silence of the Lambs (this movie never gets old) 92- Batman Returns 93- Cool Runnings (watched it again last year, this movie aged very well) 94- Shawshank Redemption 95- While You Were Sleeping (What? It’s a good movie to watch with the wife) 96- Rebirth of Mothra 97- Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 98- The Big Lebowski (I still like this movie) 99- Office Space 00- Ready to Rumble (C’mon guys, it’s a fun movie) 01- Hedwig and the Angry Inch (I actually really like musicals) 02- Catch Me If You Can 03- Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (This is probably my favorite Godzilla movie, its ending is still moving) 04- Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy 05- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy 06- The Prestige (LOVE this movie) 07- Hot Fuzz 08- The Good, the Bad, the Weird (Korean movie, I liked it even when I didn’t have subtitles) 09- Nativity! (This is my go-to Christmas movie; tons of fun) 10- True Grit (Because of this movie I fell in love with modern westerns) 11- Captain America: The First Avenger (I am all about Captain America) 12- Pitch Perfect (Fun musical, the ending sequences are awesome) 13- This Is the End 14- The Grand Budapest Hotel 15- The Hateful Eight 16- Deadpool (It even apologizes for the bad Deadpool from years earlier!) 17- …I don’t think I’ve seen any movies from this year yet.
I don’t really have strong feelings about the movies most year, so I tried to pick the ones I’d want to see again or that I remember as being fun.
