Hi all!
The following guide is to make your life and the admins' lives easier when it comes to submitting segments and other things to be used directly during a show. While Fizz and I still have absolutely zero preference for the formatting of your roleplays in the roleplay section, when you're submitting something for the show, we ask that you follow this guide to the best of your ability.
We are also looking to build a list of your characters' colors, in the event we can add trashtalk or other dialogue to the show. Once you've read this, please reply with your character color -- that's the combination of six digits and letters that occurs when you're coloring yourself in. Using white is acceptable, but if you're like me and like a color specifically, an example of these combos is #7a47e9, which is purple.
Please copy and past the following with replacements in response:
Quick Tips:
1) Stick your private messages/segments to Fizz and I in code blocks.
A code block is "code" in brackets (no quotation marks), followed by everything you want to write, plus another "/code" in brackets at the end. If you quote this post, you can see it with the color request. What this does is preserve ALL of your formatting, so that it can be copied and pasted directly into the show. If you remember only one piece of advice from this guide, please make it that. If you do it right, your RP should look like an unformatted mess when it goes to send, but come to life when copied and pasted elsewhere.
2) The show is usually in 10pt font, which is font size #2 on the selector. Please highlight your segment and size it after you're done writing before sending.
I find the default font to be a font for ants around here, and we believe in accessibility.
3) Outside of a match, please put your actions/descriptors in italics. Inside of a match, leaving them out is fine.
Example:
The camera cuts backstage to the interviewer ready to make me look like a million bucks.
4) Dialogue should follow this format: bold the character including the colon with no quotation marks around the quotes. If you're using color, please also stop the color after the colon. If you're using the commentators, you don't need to hit enter twice, just hit enter once to break them apart, but break them away from the action they're commenting on by putting space between the action and the commentary. If you're putting a photo or video in your piece, the same spacing rules apply. For example:
Big strong scary wrestler sends Caffrey through a table! The crowd boos!
Wright: Egad! What a despicable action!
Park: It's not despicable, it's doing what it takes to win!
Strong Wrestler: Grrrrr.
5) This is just a suggestion, but if you format your RPs in the 'BBCode' tab, it goes a lot smoother.
You can't actually see the formatting results, but when you hit enter once while writing in the 'preview' tab, it often spaces twice. Try it out -- you may find yourself switching back and forth a few times, but it'll be easier in the long run. Or -- or you can set up the coding in a Google Docs (I always recommend Google Docs and then transferring it into the XHF forum to RPers because of the the autosave function, no more writing a RP for three hours to delete it by pulling a cord), then move it over. Figure out what works for you and you'll be able to spend more time being creative and less time doing the shitty back end.
All of this helps Fizz and I get things done faster and create better/on-time shows, so your cooperation here is appreciated. Let me know if you need a hands-on lesson, happy to help anyone who needs it. If you have tricks that make formatting your RPs easier (some people copy and paste all of the formatting in by writing down a string of it then plugging it in), let the rest of us know.
