Ascension Wrestling Federation Presents:
Live at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, WV.
5/1/2021
Capacity: 14000
In Attendance: 2800
The show opens backstage near a pair of double doors. The doors swing open as the Manager Extraordinaire enters the building, to the cheers of the audience in the WVU Coliseum.
Walker: Ah yes! How great it feels to be back at AWF Prestige! You coming along, kid?
A few steps behind Eddie Walker was the AWF Prestige Champion, Adam Sanders. The fans give a louder cheer as the Awkward One stands in the hallway, fairly perplexed. He has the highest championship in the AWF on his shoulder, a sight even he still isn’t use to seeing.
Sanders: I’m here, I’m here. Do you know where Tasmin’s locker room is? She has her match and I wanted to watch the show with her. It’ll help her with her Around the Clock Championship too.
Walker: I’ll lead you there for a moment, but I do want you to know that you are not just here in support of Tasmin.
The Prestige Champion raises his eyebrow.
Sanders: What do you mean?
Walker: Every great champion has to defend his championship, right?
Sanders: Wait, WHAT?! I didn’t bring my ring gear!
Walker: Not tonight, you giant ball of anxiety! But I got word that your Clash of the Icons opponent is going to be announced tonight.
The fans give an even louder cheer, knowing that the main event for the next pay per view would be official tonight.
Sanders: Oh wow! Any idea who it could be?
Walker: Not a damn clue! But it’s going to be fine, kid! Let’s get you settled in with that fiancée of yours and start waiting for that announcement!
The cameras cut back to ringside with Tommy Taylor and Cassius Romano.
Romano: Well, looks like we’re gonna find out what’s going to be headlining Clash of the Icons tonight.
Taylor: Sounds like it! Welcome everyone to the sixty-nineth episode of AWF Prestige! I am Tommy Taylor with Cassius Romano and we got ourselves one hell of a show tonight.
Romano: Four action packed matches with a championship on the line!
Taylor: Indeed! Erin Gordon will defend her United States Championship against Kallie Reznik. We also have the XHF Junior Heavyweight Champion Bloodied Fox facing Cross Recoba in a non-title match, Dakota Jennings versus the Jitterman, and Tasmin Richards against Mad Dog Smith!
Romano: Should be one hell of a show! Wait, can I still say that around Alexander Horton?
Taylor: Don’t say his name? You might make him appear! But anyway, let’s get this first match rolling!
"Crawling in the dark" hits as Tasmin comes out in a leather biker jacket, a black top and baggy camo pants.
Jessie Love: Now making her way to the ring, standing 5'4 and weighing in at 110 pounds, from Norwhich England she is THE TASSSSSIIIE DEVIL TASSSMIN RIIICHARDS
She makes her way down to the ring slowly holding the lapels of her jacket before running over to the barricade as the chorus of Crawling in the dark" hits and she sings with the small crowd.
"Show me what its for, make me understand it. I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer!"
She high fives a few fans before springing and sliding under the bottom rope popping up to her knees and then nto her feet running to each corner jumping onto the middle rope.
Taylor: Tasmin has been on a ROLE since she has joined the AWF and she doesn't plan on this match being any different.
Romano: You can do anything if you're in control of your career. She's in control.
'"Hungry Eyes" by Eric Carmen plays as Mad Dog Smith comes to the ring.
Taylor: Mad Dog Smith is one of the most... well, strange wrestlers out there.
Romano: There's a lot of benefits to being unorthodox, but I think it's fare to not take your eyes off him.
Singles Match
Tasmin Richards vs. Mad Dog Smith
The bell rings and immediately Mad Dog Smith and Tasmin Richards burst into action with a momentous head and shoulder lockup. Mad Dog is about to gain the first bit of control as he pushes the head of Tasmin down. He uses that brief window to circle to the back of her and secures her in German Suplex position. He tries to pop Tasmin up, but she whips her head back and slams the crown of her head to the bridge of his nose. This forces him to release the grip just enough for Tasmin readjust. Russian Leg Sweep! Mad Dog goes down! Tasmin doesn't waste time resting on her laurels as she gets back up and grabs the legs of Mad Dog. She drops with an elbow on the knee and the face of MDS shows that he finds that blow to be a bit more than just tickling. She gets up and continues kicking right at the same left knee.
Taylor: Going for the knee? Aren't there some more... painful places that she could go at? Like the... y'know.
Romano: The groin? Yes, but that's not exactly kosher and if you think about it, the knee is the joint that keeps up the rest of the body. She's laying a foundation that will pay off later on.
Tasmin continues kicking until Mad Dog Smith violently and abruptly swings his hips and uses his other leg to sweep her down. He takes another step to climb onto his knee and gets his other knee onto Tasmin's stomach. Mad Dog Smith gets up... and immediately goes back down with a back flip landing down like a moonsault splash. Tasmin's eyes tell the whole story as her eyes grow really wide. MDS doesn't get off. Instead, he's really forceful as he positions his body weight over her and pins the shoulders of Tasmin Richards down as Junior Referee Steve Tyrell makes the pin count. He slides down and off he goes:
...One!
...Two!
...Kickout!
Taylor: Mad Dog Smith is able to get an advantage here. He's really tactful with his approach.
Romano: Both of them are really showing just how much chops they bring into their game. This is their livelihoods and they worked hard to get here. The question here is just whose amazing skill is able to edge out that of the other.
Mad Dog Smith tries to get up, but Tasmin uses her long leg to wrap about the neck of MDS and pulls him in. She then begins to put the choke on him as she applies a headscissor submission. Mad Dog's eyes go big as he tries to use his fingers to pry his way out. He uses his legs to try to adjust himself out of the move, but finds this to come to no avail. His eyes are wide and his expression says it all. Tasmin adjusts her hips so she can use her top leg to add additional torque onto Mad Dog Smith, trying to get the early submission victory right then and there. Steve Tyrell is asking Mad Dog if he wants to give up. And as much as the pain is getting to him, he refuses. After some fidgeting, his foot manages to snag hold of the bottom rope. The referee immediately instructs Tasmin to let go. ...One. ...Two. ...Three. ...Fo-she lets go. Mad Dog Smith grabs the ropes and runs his hands through his fingers. Tasmin shoots him a grin.
Taylor: That wasn't even one of Tasmin Richards' signature moves and she nearly got him with that! She really is dangerous!
Romano: It's a bit of a tricky thing, really. People are really in the thought process that a match has to end by a signature move. It doesn't. When you're in the ring, any move can take you out if you're not careful.
Mad Dog Smith looks at Tasmin and returns that smile. After all, there are a lot of words to describe Mad Dog Smith, including, "Hey you behind the bushes" and "banned from Home Depot", but none of them would be orthodox. Mad Dog Smith rushes into the ring and with a seemingly surprising burst of energy, he shoves his knee into the chest of Tasmin. She didn't quite expect him to move with such speed. She goes down and Mad Dog Smith flexes his muscles. He looks down at Tasmin and drops down an elbow, just for good measure. She's on the floor and down for the count. This is where Mad Dog Smith is ready to finally get the win. He looks at the turnbuckle and JUMPS on there. He turns around and goes to jump off, and that's when... His knee gives out! He forces himself slowly onto the mat because his knee is finally bothering him!
Taylor: Down he goes! Down goes Mad Dog Smith!
Romano: This is Tasmin's plan paying off. She works on his knee, and works in some more and this pays off eventually. Well eventually is now.
Tasmin slowly gets up. She runs over to Mad Dog and kicks him in the knee going for the Shining Wizard signature move that she calls Shining Witch but when she goes for the kick to the neck, Mad Dog Smith catches the foot. Dragon screw! Tasmin lands on the mat and Mad Dog Smith gets up. He yells, 'Time to go for my finisher!" That's when Mad Dog Smith leaves the ring and heads to the audience.
Taylor: Mad Dog Smith says he wants to finish the move... but he left the ring?
Romano: Bold move. You usually have to enter the ring and be near your opponent in order to win.
After a moment, Mad Dog Smith comes back from the audience area, but he's not alone! He has a woman with him!
Taylor: Is that... I thought Whitney Houston was dead!
Romano: That's not Whitney Houston. That's Diana Ross. That's rude, and probably criminal.
Mad Dog Smith pushes Diana Ross into the ring and he gets up. He turns around and BOOM! SUPERGIRL PUNCH! AIR RICHARDS! Tasmin goes for the pin count:
...One!
...Two!
...Three!
Jessie Love: Here is your winner... TASMIN RICHARDS!
Taylor: Mad Dog Smith started off well, but he let a beautiful singer get in the way! He may lost but heeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee will alllwaayyyyyssss loooovvvveeee H-
Romano: THAT VOICE IS SO TERRIBLE! AND THAT IS NOT WHITNEY HOUSTON!
As soon as Steve Tyrell raises Tasmin’s arm in the air to signal her as the victor of the match, the lights completely cut off in the WVU Coliseum.
Taylor: What the hell is going on? The lights just turned off.
Romano: I can’t even see my hand in front of my face.
Slowly, a video appears on the screen. The light from the video allows Tasmin’s outline in the ring to be visible. Everything is pixelated on the black backdrop while an organ slowly starts to hum a dissonant chord. Eventually the screen shows the Jitterman mask, surrounded by a few faint candles. The voice of Poppy laughing in a chilling yet childlike manner suddenly sends a cold chill down Tasmin’s spine. The video fast-forwards to a point where the Jitterman mask is no longer there… replaced by writing… every letter written in blood…
WILl yOu loVe hIm tIlL dEAth dO You pArt?
After the sound of laughter cackling, the lights fade back on. Tasmin is still standing in the ring, about five shades paler than she was before the match.
Romano: Well that was… something.
Taylor: Tasmin looks like she has seen a ghost!
Romano: She looks outright terrified!
Taylor: Well, either way, she has secured her victory here today and we got a lot more action to follow tonight here on AWF Prestige!!
As the word “Firecracker” appears on the large screen, red and green laser lights spin around the arena as The Soapgirls begin to sing the opening to the song. Then the word fades and is replaced by the name “Dakota” as the redhead makes her way out to the stage area, the fans becoming thunderous in their applause for her. She raises a single arm up before making her way down the aisle.
Jessie Love: The following contest is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first, from Syracuse, New York, by way of Scottsdale, Arizona, weighing in at one hundred twenty pounds, she is the Firecracker, and the Chairwoman of the XHF... DAKOTA JENNINGS!!
Reaching the ring, she confidently strides up the steps before stepping under the second rope before climbing up one of the turnbuckles, raising a defiant middle finger toward her opponent as the fans cheer her relentlessly.
Romano: And look at her go!
Taylor: The Firecracker is here! Former AWF United States Champion is ready for action tonight!
Romano: Don’t forget, she is the reigning End of Days winner!
The arena goes dark and then the screen flickers on and there appears a wood, a robed man comes out onto the stage with some kind of book, he begins speaking to it and then out in the distance a figure saunters closer and closer and stops...that's when the music begins to play.
Jessie Love: And her opponent, from Parts Unknown, weighing in at three hundred ten pounds, he is… THE JITTERMAN!!
Then the lights go out once again and when they appear back on The Jitterman is there next to the robed man otherwise known as John Eden.
Romano: And now we have the spookiest member of our roster!
Taylor: He has his work cut out for him. Dakota might be a small woman, but she carries a lot of fight and is insanely gifted in the ring.
They then slowly and methodically make their way to the ring and then lights eventually turn back to normal.
Singles Match
Dakota Jennings vs. The Jitterman
Head referee Gabe Valentine calls for the bell as Jitterman and Jennings meet in the center of the ring.
DING DING DING
With a nightmarish sneer, Jitterman lifts a hand in the air, wiggling his fingers, inviting Jennings to an early test of strength. Green eyes narrow as Jennings lifts her hand and grasps onto Jitterman’s. For a few moments, Jitterman looks surprised as Jennings' determination allows her to hang longer than expected. It isn’t long before Jitterman’s larger size gives him the advantage and he pushes her away. Jennings stumbles slightly, but catches herself quickly and glares over at Jitterman who looks at her with a wicked smile. Jennings' face hardens in determination as she marches right back to Jitterman and lifts her hand in the air, wiggling her own fingers now. With a smirk, Jitterman answers the challenge; for a few moments, they remain locked in the middle of the ring. Jennings' arms begin to shake, making Jitterman’s smirk grow wider; it’s wiped off his face within moments, however, when Jennings meets his grin with one of her own. Squeezing her fingers over his tightly, she aims a kick for his ribs and hits her mark. His hands loosen immediately as he stumbles backward, the wind suddenly knocked out of him.
Taylor: Look at Dakota go!
Romano: She’s at an insane size disadvantage, but she’s really making sure she shows that heart of hers!
Taylor: Jitterman seems like he underestimated Dakota!
Romano: I think we all did!
Wasting no time, Jennings uses her sudden momentum to hit the ropes and fly back at Jitterman with a clothesline. This causes him to wobble, but doesn’t quite take the big man off his feet just yet. Undeterred, Jennings bounces from the ropes once more and lands a perfect spinning heel kick to the back of his head. The crowd cheers loudly as Jitterman drops to his knees in a daze.
Taylor: That’s our End of Days winner!!
Romano: That was one hell of a kick!
Taylor: She’s not done!
Taking advantage, Jennings sets up for DJ Rush, but Jitterman predicts it and dodges easily. As she stumbles, Jitterman gets to his feet and shakes the rest of the cobwebs from his head. He and Jennings turn at once and their gazes lock onto one another. Jennings gives Jitterman a “come and get me” grin, crouching into a fighting stance and motioning him forward. Baring his teeth at her, Jitterman glares at Jennings as he begins to stalk her slowly. The two circle one another for several moments as the fans cheer with anticipation. Finally, Jennings grows impatient and rushes forward, attempting a quick strike towards his face. Jitterman blocks the blow easily with a fist, as well as the next one, and the one after that.
Taylor: Here comes the Jitterman!!
Romano: He wants to play now!!
Taking a few steps backward, Jennings begins to circle Jitterman again, frustration becoming obvious on her face. Jitterman finally rushes forward on surprisingly fast feet; caught off guard, Jennings is brought down by a hard clothesline by Jitterman. He wastes no time snatching her up again only to bring her crashing back down to the mat with a vicious German suplex. Jennings stares up at the lights in a daze, but doesn’t have enough time to catch her breath; Jitterman has her up once more and slams her down once more with another German suplex. Dropping casually to his knees, he goes for a loose cover.
Taylor: Cover by Jitterman, Valentine on the count!
Romano: Could this be enough?!
ONE!!
TWO!!
NO!!
Jennings quickly lifts her shoulder up, pushing Jitterman off of her. Getting to his feet, he grabs her by her fire-red locks; this earns him admonishment from Valentine, but Jitterman waves him off impatiently. Setting her to her feet before him, he begins to set her up for a pump handle slam, but Jennings uses her survival instincts to wriggle her way out of his grip. Turning quickly on her heel, she pushes him into the ropes and lands a dropkick in the center of his back. Jitterman gets tangled up in the ropes; Jennings wastes no time in running up behind him and trapping his hands. As Jitterman snarls at her and struggles to get loose, Jennings traps his neck against the center rope and pushes against his back with her knee. Using both her hands, she pushes her knee into his back as she pulls hard at the ropes.
Taylor: Dakota Jennings is choking out the Jitterman!
Romano: I mean, can you blame her? Look at the size of him! It might be all she can do!
Taylor: Valentine is not happy about it!
Romano: Once again, he is DOUBLE her size!! And a monster! Count, Valentine, and tell her to let go.
Jitterman flails in desperation now as Valentine yells at Jennings to release the hold. After ignoring him, Valentine begins the count; Jennings keeps the hold until the count of four before letting go. Backing off, Jennings watches for only a few seconds as Valentine attempts to help Jitterman from the ropes. The moment she spies his hands are free, Jennings launches herself across the ring at Jitterman, landing another dropkick to the back of his hand. He falls backwards in the ring, earning a loud cheer from the crowd. Fired up now, Jennings grabs his legs and drags him to the center of the ring.
Taylor: Dakota Jennings has every fan on their feet, hoping that this will be enough!
Romano: Man oh man, this is quite a Dakota vs. Goliath if I’ve ever seen one!
Taylor: Cover by Dakota!
ONE!!
TWO!!
TH...NO!!
Jitterman kicks out with authority! Jennings sits up, slamming a fist down into the mat in frustration. She glares up at Valentine and argues for a moment, but the head ref holds up two fingers and motions for her to continue. With a growl, Jennings gets to her feet and waits; as Jitterman makes it to his own shaky feet, Jennings rushes forward and manages to catch Jitterman with the “You Should Have Seen It”!! Jitterman crumbles as Jennings makes the cover once more.
Taylor: You should have seen it, Jitterman!!
Romano: He couldn’t, it was being done to him! Just call the damn cover.
ONE!!
TWO!!
THR...NO!!
The crowd goes wild as Jitterman kicks out once again. Jennings shrieks loudly as she jumps back to her feet, eyes wild. Pushing her hair from her face, Jennings stalks Jitterman, screaming for him to get back to his feet. Slowly but surely, the monster rises to his feet once more. As he turns, Jennings lets out a war cry and charges, hoping to connect with DKO MK II, but Jitterman is ready for her! Dodging out of the way just in time, Jennings flails for a moment before stumbling into the ropes. An evil smile crosses Jitterman’s face as he slowly approaches the entangled red-head, revenge clearly on his mind. Grabbing her by the hair, he yanks her free of the ropes and drags her away only to slam her into the corner of the ringpost. Even though the wind is knocked out of her, Jitterman begins to rain down chop after chop against her chest, each one landing louder than the last.
Taylor: Man oh man, you can hear the chops reverb in the venue!
Romano: Who’d have thunk the WVU Coliseum had such good acoustics.
Once Jennings is wheezing for air, Jitterman traps her arms within the ropes, leaving Jennings prone against the ringpost. Backing away to inspect his work, he tips his head as a malevolent gleam lights up his eyes, a sadistic grin touching his lips. In three quick strides, he’s in the other corner; a moment later, he rushes at Jennings and nails her with the Lights Out! Jennings crumbles in a heap from the ropes as Jitterman backs away, cackling loudly. Picking up, he drags her back to the center of the ring and forces her to her feet. Grabbing her by the neck and squeezing, he stares into her glassy green eyes and whispers something only she can hear. Getting her into position, he places his hands over hers and sends up a quick prayer before delivering Pray Time! Jennings collapses and Jitterman covers.
ONE!!
TWO!!
THREE!!
The bells sound as Jitterman’s theme begins to blare through the arena.
Jessie Love: Here is your winner… THE JITTERMAN!!
Romano: Wow! The Jitterman has just spooked this whole roster with such a dramatic comeback win against one of the best in-ring competitors we got in the AWF!
Taylor: Dakota had Jitterman at several points in the match, but Jitterman was too much in the end!
Romano: She gave it her all! You can’t deny that!
[ - PREVIOUSLY RECORDED FOOTAGE - ]
The feed opens up to inside of the WVU Coliseum where Ascension Wrestling Federation’s Prestige Sixty-Nine takes place, the seating is emptied and those who are in the stands are either backstage personnel or even some of the enhancement talent that lays around and trains before the shows. Soon, the silence in the arena is broken by the sound of heavy footsteps making it’s way down the steel-grate ramp, heading towards the ring as the camera shot pans over to the man with the heavy footsteps -- Hayden Callahan. The South London native was already making some noise when he surprisingly signed to Ascension Wrestling Federation, and rightfully so, since he’s not been heard from in months. Not since the January global event -- XHF Supremacy.
Hayden Callahan: It’s been a while, everyone, and I’m sure some are wondering what I’ve been up to since then. Since that loss to Cross Recoba. Since I tried to start a movement against FIRESIDE. Since I tried to run the company down to the ground. Thankfully, others have tried that with their accusations and wild claims of a certain someone being a certain historical leader.
Of course, he knew what he was referencing, and he was sure that people at home knew what he was referencing. Giving that wink and a smile to the camera that recorded him as he gracefully made his way down to the ringside area.
Hayden Callahan: -but sadly, all good things do come to an end and respectfully, the end came with a pink slip through the letterbox after months of radio silence, booking all these outsiders and telling them to come onto the show, but having me at the sidelines when all I wanted to do was to prepare food on the table for my daughter. Of course, I had the money already, I made thousands back at home with personal business and such but that kind of cash was something I tried to prove to her. Doing what you love and what you dreamed of becoming would always work out in the end.
There’s a gentle sigh that releases from Hayden’s lips. The past few months have been rough on ol’ Hayden Callahan. Not being able to be in that ring was killer, and placing his hand on the ring mat of AWF’s ring brought back the memories. Those memories of his past, on the independent circuits, in SWAT, and even in FIRESIDE -- though he only had one good match there against MYOJIN.
Hayden Callahan: That’s why I came here to AWF, where I know a future is destined for me and where I can be certain that no curtain-jerking [BLEEP] is going to pull the strings on me like some people did. I’ve been aware of this place since last year, when I first made the move onto the Network’s federations. I’ve been aware that this place is historical in it’s own right, but I never made the complete jump, until now. But, now that I am here, it’s time that we have some fun around here.
There’s a small chuckle from Hayden, hopping onto the ring apron and taking a seat. Hayden is looking around him, soaking in the big arena that he’s in, knowing that in only a few weeks, he’d be back in front of fans and in the ring again. Just doing what he does best.
Hayden Callahan: I’ve been here and there for just over a year now and I’ve yet to break out into something noteworthy since then, one X*Crown Championship match before being given the pink slip wasn’t a great way to break out if you will. This is why I’ve come here, a land of opportunities, to finally put my [BLEEP] head down and to finally make that break out moment happen. I promised my daughter that when I left London to come to West Virginia. I promised her that I will make certainty that her father will have his voice heard and that they’ll never turn me down.
Again, his smile is widened. Thinking about the moment he’s cherishing and how his daughter will finally see her father prove the point he’s been making for the past year.
Hayden Callahan: I can guarantee that I won’t be afraid of any poor bloke that they put in front of me, whether that be their biggest strong suits like Chris Card, Cross Recoba, Dakota Jennings, and other names along with those. Hell, even the champions I can take down with one [BLEEP] swing. Names like Bloodied Fox, Frankie Webb, Erin Gordon, Tasmin Richards, and even Adam Sanders. I’m not afraid of them at all, they want to step up against me, they are welcome to try.
That cocky side of Hayden was in full swing, reeling back into his old ways, a common trait of his.
Hayden Callahan: The thing is that Hayden Callahan didn’t come around here to AWF and be someone’s play toy for whenever they wanted to play with me, and when they didn’t want me, they’d pass me around to the first person who bought me. I came here for success, I’m on a pursuit of happiness, and dammit I will pry it from someone’s hands if I have to. Better yet, I could just beat it out of someone, and take what they cherish from them. I may not have done it in the past, but that wouldn’t stop me now, would it?
A question left for those who were watching to answer.
Hayden Callahan: Nobody’s going to see me as a threat, more so some commoner that’s been around and knows things, which I can totally understand but my warnings in the past have brought fear into the hearts of many. I’ve brought even the toughest of men to their knees because they thought that they could step up to me, they could step up to Hayden Callahan, they could step up to The Ungovernable. I’m not going to let some authority figure around here what I can and cannot do, and dammit if they want to try and [BLEEP] with me, they’ll take the same [BLEEP] beating as those who are in the ring.
Was that a threat to Alexander Horton? Who knows at this point. Hayden’s just shooting down anyone and everyone in his line of sight. They’re all in his crosshairs.
Hayden Callahan: In two weeks, I’ll be in this ring facing whomever they might throw at me, and when they get in the ring with Hayden Callahan, they’re met with a brush of greatness. It’s been like that before and it’ll forever be like that here. I didn’t come for fame, fortune, or even respect. I came for something more valuable. The memories. Sure, even the championships too if we’re going to be getting a little more descriptive but at the end of the day, as long as it’s Hayden Callahan standing tall, then it won’t matter anymore. So please, come one and come all, I dare a champion to step up and face me. Nobody’s going to take me down like those in the past have.
There was a question left to be answered. The question of “why?”. A common question that Hayden’s always seemed to answer for himself. His smile is wide, a bit of a chuckle coming from The Ungovernable, as he looked dead into the camera for one final line.
Hayden Callahan: ...because I am Hayden [BLEEP] Callahan.
Just like that, Hayden Callahan has arrived here in the Ascension Wrestling Federation. His future for what they had planned for The Ungovernable was in the air, but Hayden felt luck was just around the corner, and who knows… maybe even his breakout moment that he’s been talking about. This was the moment he needed, this was what he wanted, and now the world is finally his. The camera pans away as the feed soon brings us back to ringside for the next match.
Jessie Love: The following match is set for one fall!
Crowd: ONE FALL!
Jessie Love: Introducing our first competitor...
"Turn To Stone" by Joe Walsh fills the arena as the lights dim and a single spotlight illuminates the stage. Out from the curtain steps Cross Recoba, a titanium cane with a golden lion's head handle in one hand, touching the crucifix with the other. The HCW Diamond title is draped over his shoulder. The crowd responds with a chorus of cheers. Cross uses the handle of the cane to push his shag hair cut from his face, flicking his head back confidently as he smiles towards the audience. He holds up the cane that has caused so much trouble in the past to an even more rapturous response from the fans, and he begins down the ramp still holding it aloft.
Jessie Love: "Coming to the ring, standing at six foot one and one inch, and weighing in at 230 pounds, hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada.... and the self-proclaimed 'Box Office Smash of AWF'..... , 'THE FOX' CROSS RECOBBBAAA!!"
Recoba reaches ringside and holds the lions head handle of the cane up to his lips and kisses it for luck. He sets the cane to rest against the ring steps and then climbs them up onto the apron and, with a wipe of his feet, slips between the ropes.
Taylor: A lot of chatter has happened both between ourselves and online, Cassius, about what reaction we can expect from a man who suffered his first undeniable loss last time out against Erin Gordon.
Romano: The smart money is that we’re going to get a violent and driven reaction, Tommy. We fully expect another match, perhaps the deciding match, to be announced for Clash of the Icons between Recoba and Card. It’s simple fact that going into a big match with a win gives you a huge psychological advantage!
He pops up with both hands out at his side, walking forward as if putting his glory on display, and delivers an over-exaggerated bow that causes the fans to cheer even louder. Cross stands to his full height and smirks, stepping over to the far corner to await the beginning of the match.
Jessie Love: And his opponent…
The arena lights pulse red as BFG Division 2020 rips and tears through the speakers and Bloodied Fox makes his way out, the XHF Junior Heavyweight title around his waist and the Alepou Aegis on his right arm.
Jessie Love: Hailing from Reading, Berkshire, England...he is the Vulpine Scavenger, he is the Bloody Rainmaker...he is THE CURRENT XHF JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION….HE IS...BLOODIED...FOX!!
The fans cheer as he walks down the ramp and slides into the ring, mounting the corner turnbuckles and unfastening the belt, raising it in salute in his left hand.
Taylor: We saw Fox break the hoodoo around his record of defences with a title at the XHF Rumble. Will that have given him sharpness or fatigue in the ring?
Romano: We both saw the match, Tommy, in my mind he showed that he isn’t messing around inside the ring. He’ll know a win tonight will once again put the conversation of a Prestige title shot back on the table!
Singles Match
Cross Recoba vs. Bloodied Fox
Nate Biggs calls for the bell as this match gets underway. Both men charge towards one another, the resentment evident on both sides.
Taylor: Fox has made no attempt to hide his feelings about his opponent going into this fight.
Romano: Both men are being talked about to once more come together for Call to Arms but whereas last year, there was some level of respect on both sides, that cannot be said this time around!
Taylor: With ReKota no more, Fox has no reason to hide his feelings about the man who he sees as an imposter to the Fox moniker!
Fox beats Cross to the punch, literally, and connects with an overhand right. Recoba fires back with a snapped jab but a follow up with a hook is weaved and instead, Fox takes advantage of the window to fire off a teep kick to the face of his opponent that produces some distance.
Taylor: We spoke earlier about whether or not Fox competing at the Rumble in that successful defence against Rin Kubo would play a factor but it seems that he’s come out of the blocks at speed!
Romano: You have to wonder about the psyche of Recoba, there was at least some level of denial in his loss to Card but against Gordon? There was no room to hide behind any level of comfort in the loss!
The current XHF Junior Heavyweight Champion rushes to catch the off-balance Recoba but, anticipating a defensive jab, the LGBTKO alumni ducks and grabs a waistlock. Pushing the Illinois native to the ropes, he looks for a roll-up but Recoba holds on sending him backwards.
Taylor: Can Cross capitalise?
Cross springs forward but Fox sidesteps a back elbow...PELE KICK!
Romano: Fox suckered him into that. Could Cross be underestimating a man who is one title apiece away from completing not just the AWF Grand Slam but the XHF one too?
Taylor: The Junior Heavyweight champion seems to have at least half a step on his opponent, he’s going for the pin!
ONE…
KICKOUT!!
Romano: Too early but, in my experience, these early pins are more about getting into the head of your opponent than looking for a win!
Rolling away from his opponent, Cross smiles at the cheeky attempt to catch him slacking. The smile only lasts a moment as Fox fires forward with a basement front dropkick that strikes the side of his temple.
Taylor: I don’t care who you are, that’s going to ring anyone’s bell!
Lifting his opponent up, FOX STARTS TO UNLEASH THE KAWADA KICKS!
ONE…
TWO…
THREE…
Taylor: We’ve seen Fox build from these kicks to many a victory in his time here in Ascension.
Romano: He’s come with a gameplan and it seems to be paying off so far!
FOUR..
FIVE KICKS LANDS TO THE SIDE OF THE LAS VEGAS RESIDENT BEFORE BIGGS STEPS IN…
FOX LANDS A SIXTH BEFORE LETTING BIGGS CHECK HIS OPPONENT!
Taylor: Fox sneaking in a final kick for good measure!
Using the ropes to get to his feet, Recoba hand waves away Biggs' questions.
Taylor: Cross can try to be nonchalant but he looks rocked!
Romano: Fox will know that he can’t get complacent, surely?
Reacting at the last-minute RECOBA LAUNCHES AN ONCOMING FOX TO THE FLOOR BUT THE VULPINE SCAVENGER LANDS ON HIS FEET!
Taylor: Recoba, showing his reactions are still there, but he’s unaware of where his opponent is!
Trying to catch him unaware, Fox pulls the legs out from Recoba and tries to pull him outside the ring but Recoba fires a donkey kick to the face.
Romano: Scrappy looking defence from the former High Finance member.
Scrambling to take advantage, RECOBA COMES OFF THE ROPES WITH A BASEBALL SLIDE TO THE FACE OF HIS OPPONENT!
Taylor: Finally, Cross lands a clean strike!
Seeing the Brit stagger backwards, Recoba once more heads to the ropes once more...HE LOOKS FOR THE MILLION LIRA DROPKICK….FOX SIDESTEPS AND COUNTERS THE MAN’S OWN MOMENTUM WITH A MODIFIED SIDESLAM!!
Taylor: WHAT A COUNTER!!!
A replay shows, picture-in-picture.
Romano: The Human Buzzsaw used his own momentum against him there! He could be out!
The cameras cut and see the agony that Recoba finds himself in. His wallowing is cut short as Fox yanks him by the hair to his feet.
ONE…
Taylor: Fox is far from done, Cross is in real trouble here!
Cross finds him face driven into the canvas of the ring. Once more, his pain only temporary...FOX GRABS A SINGLE-LEG LIFT AND DROPS HIS PREY FACE-FIRST ONTO THE STEEL STEPS!!
Romano: Deceptive strength got Fox more elevation than he really needed there!
TWO…
The AWF cameramen earn their pay, catching the moment Cross realises his forehead is busted open.
Taylor: Now, Cassius, being busted open isn’t just bad news because of the damage you’ve taken is it?
Romano: That is going to be a target for the Brit for the rest of the match!
THREE…
Fox is far from done. Out of instinct, Cross tries to get to his feet but is cut down immediately as Fox leaps off the apron to connect with an enziguri that leaves a sickening thud to resonate around the arena.
Taylor: Those quick feet of Fox are cutting down his opponent at an alarming rate!
FOUR…
Dropped to a knee, a glassiness can be seen in the eyes of Recoba. Fox pays no mind to the potential concussion, instead whipping the ‘Pretender Fox’ into the crowd barrier. Cross can be seen to be winded and has no protection against the rushing forearm that connects with his skull again.
Romano: That Eastern-influenced offense is once more proving to be the cornerstone of his attack!
FIVE…
Having toyed with Recoba, Fox rolls him into the ring and follows. He looks for a pin..
Taylor: Cross could be done here!
ONE…
TW-
CROSS LIMPLY PUTS A FOOT ON THE ROPES TO BREAK THE COUNT!
Taylor: He’s shaken, he’s stirred, but he’s still in this match...just!
Shaking his head, Bloodied Fox lifts Cross to his feet and grabs a side-headlock.
Romano: Wearing his opponent down, Fox can control the pace of this match as he has for the majority of this match!
As if hearing the words of Romano, Cross fires a quick and pointed knee to the back of the thigh of his opponent and quickly lifts his opponent up...SAITO SUPLEX!!
Taylor: Desperation reversal, can he build from it?
Fox is quicker to his feet than Recoba but, buoyed by the suplex, Cross catches the lifted leg and spins..DRAGON SCREW!!
Taylor: Cross normally focuses his offense on one body part but here it seems he’s taking what he can!
Romano: If he can dent the effectiveness of that lead leg, it’s a smart move but that’s still only part of the danger with Bloodied Fox!
As he rolls to his feet, an eagle-eyed viewer might notice that Recoba stumbles as he stands but catches himself.
Taylor: Steady...
A European Uppercut lands to the rising Fox who staggers back only to be met with a flying headscissors!
Taylor: Cross is chaining some offense together, what can he follow this up with?
Feeding off adrenaline, Recoba is quick to capitalise and pushes Fox’s head between his leg and lifts him up...HE CHARGES….FOX REVERSES THE POWERBOMB INTO A HURRANCANRANA THAT SENDS CROSS HELPLESSLY INTO THE TURNBUCKLE!!
Taylor: RUNNING POWERBOMB REVERSED AND FOX NOW IS BACK ON TOP!
Cobwebs still evident inside his head, Recoba can do little but watch as FOX LANDS A RUNNING SENTON INTO THE CORNER!!!
Romano: He’s keeping his opponent scrambled upstairs!
Dragging his opponent out of the corner, Fox rushes to the ropes….SPRINGBOARD FROG SPLASH!!
Taylor: AIR VULPINE!
ONE…
TWO…
TH-KICKOUT!!!
Romano: It’s a kick-out but Fox’s early dominance is still weighing on him!
Hooking a half-nelson, Fox deadlifts Recoba on pure spite. He hooks the other arm...SNAP DRAGON SUPLEX!!!
Taylor: Textbook set-up and execution!
Fox looks to his opponent, debating the cover, instead he goes to bend down to pick up Recoba to put an exclamation mark on his authority….RECOBA LANDS A DESPERATION LUNGBLOWER!!
Romano: Recoba’s scrapping but now he needs to go big or go home!
Too worn to roll for the cover, Recoba slowly pushes himself back to his feet and, with no real conviction, lifts up Fox...he scoops him onto his shoulder…
Taylor: He’s looking for the Up All Night in Dakota!
FOX DROPS DOWN THE BACK AND GRABS A WAISTLOCK WITH THE WRIST….RIPCORD SUPERMAN PUNCH SENDS CROSS DOWN, FOLDED LIKE AN ACCORDION!!!
Taylor: BLOODY RAINMAKER! HE GOT ALL OF THAT!
Romano: Straight into the cover!
ONE…
TWO…
THREE!!!
Jessie Love: Your winner of the match, the current XHF Junior Heavyweight Champion, Berkshire’s Best….BLOODIED FOX!!!
Poppy electronic beats hit the sound system of the arena as “Hypa Hypa” by Eskimo Callboy begins to play. The lights surrounding the stage strobe blue and pink alternating colors with the beat as the rest darken almost completely. With the beat, Kallie Reznik appears from underneath the curtain, her arms behind her as she skips to the center of the stage. In her hair, she wears a pair of sequined Minnie Mouse ears and a white jacket over her ring attire. A bright, innocent smile paints her face as she sings along to the lyrics of the song, swaying side to side, bopping with it as she meets eyes with some of the fans in attendance.
Jessie Love: The following contest is our main event and is for the AWF United States Championship!! Introducing first, from Aurora, Colorado, weighing in at one hundred eighteen pounds, she is the Butterfly Effect… KALLIE REZNIK!!
♫HYPA HYPA, YOU’RE PRETTY AND I LIKE YA
MOVE YOUR BODY, GIRL, ALL NIGHT LONG
HYPA HYPA, YOU’RE PRETTY AND I LIKE YA
YOU’RE GONNA BE MY GIRL ALL NIGHT LONG♫
At the end of the phrase, Kallie turns her body and slightly, pops her hip out and raises her hand with a silly peace symbol held in it as she winks flirtatiously just as the heavier guitar riffs of the theme begins. With a grin, she begins to skip down to the ring, stopping to high five a couple of younger female fans along the way. She picks a special younger girl as she reaches the bottom of the ramp and takes the Minnie Mouse ears off her head, placing them on the head of the girl before she runs and slides under the ring.
♫ YOU ARE MY DRUG
YOU'RE EVERYTHING I WANT
I WOULD GIVE MY SOUL FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU AT ONCE
PUT YOUR HANDS UP
WELL, LET ME SEE YOU SHAKE YOUR HIPS ♫
Taylor: We have the winner of the first-ever Super Scramble match, earning her the right to this match for the United States Championship!
Romano: A lot of names in that match, but she walked out the winner.
Taylor: Indeed it is. Let’s see if she can cash it in now.
Romano: Erin Gordon is no slouch so Kallie has her work cut out.
Keeping at that run, Kallie rushes forward and grabs the top rope, slingshotting the rest of her body underneath it and sitting on the second rope, letting it bounce her up and down as she grins at the crowd, raising a hand in the air. The crowd pops happily for her, before she bounces herself off and begins to head for her corner, taking her ring jacket off and then leaning into the turnbuckle, grasping the ropes with both hands and testing the tension as her music fades out.
Jessie Love: And her opponent, from Blooming Valley, Pennsylvania, weighing in at one hundred sixty-three pounds, she is the Oncoming Storm and the AWF United States Champion… ERIN GORDON!!
Taylor: The first test for our new champion, having defeated Neo James Carner at Road to Victory!
Romano: These two women have taken the AWF by storm. It was only a matter of time before they were opposite one another in the ring.
Taylor: With the United States Title on the line, let’s get this match going!
Romano: Indeed so!
Main Event
United States Championship Match
Erin Gordon vs. Kallie Reznik
DING DING DING
Kallie starts things off with an immediate running clothesline, but Gordon sidesteps. Gordon turns around to execute an STO on Kallie, but Reznik fights out of it and turns it into a floatover DDT. Once Erin was seated, Kallie lands a running meteora, catching the legs for a pin attempt. Valentine on the count!
ONE!!
TWO!!
NO!!
Erin Gordon gets her shoulder up before Kallie could score the quick win.
Romano: Close but no cigar!
Taylor: Gotta give Kallie points for the effort going for the pin that quickly.
Romano: Well, she should have known it would lead to a two count.
Gordon keeps Kallie on the ground with an armbar. Kallie starts flailing a bit before wiggling out of the move. Kallie runs back onto the ropes and lands a quick dropkick on Erin as soon as Gordon is back on her feet. She keeps the running moves going with a running shooting star on Gordon… BUT GORDON MOVES!! Kallie scrambles to her feet, but she was already knocked down with a superman punch.
Taylor: And down goes Reznik!
Romano: Sometimes, it only takes a punch.
Taylor: I mean, you say that like it’s a normal punch. Tasmin Richards uses a punch like that as a finisher!
Erin gets the cover.
ONE!!
TWO!!
TH...NO!!
As the two women rise to their feet again, Erin successfully hits the STO before following it up with a fist drop. Kallie get to her feet once more and is dropped to the mat with a swinging neckbreaker from the United States Champion.
Taylor: What a neckbreaker!
Romano: The champion has control of the match now. Cover!
ONE!!
TWO!!
THR...NO!!
Kallie shows her fight once more as she gets a shoulder up. Erin Gordon spins for her back elbow, but Kallie ducks the move and gets a desperation poison rana on Gordon. Both women are down!
Taylor: Kallie Reznik gets a much needed momentum shifter right there!
Romano: Yeah, but she has taken a lot of hits. She’s going to have to keep fighting if she is going to capitalize on it.
Taylor: It looks like Valentine is about to count both of them out.
Romano: Well, Kallie is showing some signs of life now.
Gabe Valentine decides not to count as he sees Kallie Reznik using the ropes to get back up. She sees Erin Gordon still down and climbs the top rope and waits. As soon as Gordon gets back up, she leaps to try to capture the victory and the championship with the Threads of the Moirai… but Erin Gordon moves out of the way!
Romano: Good last second effort from Gordon to avoid Kallie’s finisher.
Taylor: That could have been a new champion right there!
Romano: Watch out, I don’t think Kallie landed very well there.
Kallie Reznik landed very awkwardly after the missed move from the top rope; her right ankle appeared to be crooked as she hit the mat. She hobbles back to her feet to try to run towards Gordon, but she can barely maintain her balance. Once Erin Gordon notices that her opponent is having issues standing, Gordon looks to hit the nail in the coffin.
Taylor: NOR’EASTER!!
Romano: Man! That could have sent any of us to another zipcode! That is one hell of a backfist!
Taylor: Kallie Reznik is down and Gordon has the cover!
ONE!!
TWO!!
THREE!!
DING DING DING!!
Jessie Love: Here is your winner… AND STILL AWF UNITED STATES CHAMPION… ERIN GORDON!!
Gabe Valentine retrieves the US title for Gordon, who is still with Kallie Reznik on the mat. After a short exchange, Erin starts signalling for the medics on standby to come down to the ring.
Taylor: Well, Erin Gordon retained but probably not in a way she’d have liked to retain.
Romano: Yeah, she noticed the ankle injury as soon as it happened. It was almost like the Nor’easter was a mercy ending of the match.
Taylor: Either way, with a bad ankle, there was no way Kallie could have dodged it. All we can do now is hope for the best for Kallie going forward.
Romano: Agreed.
Erin Gordon finally gets her hand raised and is given her title belt once the medics start assisting Kallie Reznik.
We fade out from the final commercial as the curtain pulls back and we find Alexander Horton stepping out from behind the curtain, the fans in the arena aren’t too happy to see him after the shocking ending to the last Prestige episode. There’s cockiness to his step, a gingerly smile on his face as he waves to the fans in their seats, but the hostility level is at an all time high right now, and security is entering out from the back to ensure safety for Horton.
Jessie Love: Ladies and gentlemen… please welcome… *sigh* ...Alexander Horton.
Taylor: Cass, I’m just going to say this… I hate this [BLEEP] guy.
Romano: I know we’re meant to be all family-friendly and stuff, but I agree with you, Tommy.
Horton makes his way up to the ring steps, brushing his feet along the apron and heading through the middle ropes, he brings his hands out in the hopes that the crowd can cheer him on, but again, that hostility level is at an all-time high right now. There’s no way that Horton was going to get anything positive out of the West Virginian crowd right now -- or ever by their negative reactions. Horton is having a wonderful time right now, he’s having a blast of a time, and just by his smile, he’s enjoying every moment of this.
Horton: Ah, you wonderful people. I love you all!
Again, the West Virginian crowd is hostile. Throwing any junk or trash they have around them and chucking it towards the ring, security are making their presence felt as they climb up onto the ring apron and surround the ring, leaving no opening for anyone if they dare to hop the barricade.
Horton: I hope everyone had a lovely Prestige tonight, as I know I have, with Bloodied Fox picking up his win against Cross Recoba and Erin Gordon retaining her AWF United States Championship against Kallie Reznik. The future of AWF is now at an all-time high, with some wonderful talents coming in like Hayden Callahan, Tasmin Richards, and many more on the way -- I have high hopes for Ascension Wrestling Federation as a whole, as a company, as a world-wide phenomenon.
The grandeur gesture with his hands as he reaches up into the air- his large cocky, grinning smile is seen which just pisses off the fans even more. They don’t believe him for a second. They can just smell the bullshit coming from Horton.
Horton: Now, with AWF reaching it’s pinnacle event in six weeks on June 12th, it’s about time we’ve made some changes around here, a little bit of a shake up, if you will. Now that I’ve garnered that eighty percent of AWF, the show- and basically the company- is now mine. So expect some changes, not mild but major changes, around here very soon.
Horton points down to the ring mat right below his feet as he spoke that last line.
Horton: Onto the pay-per-view, Clash of The Icons, our fourth of the show name. I, Alexander Horton, will make sure that these major changes that I’ve mentioned will shape this event to be our most interesting, spectacular, and star-studded show to date. Knocking out any of our events last year, including Fired Up or A Very AWF Christmas, as I promise there to be a wild night of entertainment, action, and above all else… the best show that any family can be thrilled to watch.
Horton laughs to himself as he begins to walk around the ring.
Horton: But to execute a magical, amazing show like Clash of The Icons is set to be… then I need a main event that the people are going to talk about. As much as I hate to admit it, we didn’t gain the XHF X*Crown Championship at The Rumble and our best performing athlete was… Copycat. Maybe if the X*Crown Champion himself, Dylan Black, appeared before us and asked for a match, we’d happily have him aboard but right now.
A wink and a smile towards the camera, maybe a nudge towards the X*Crown Champion? It’s a possibility, but the fans doubt that Dylan would care enough to answer the invite.
Horton: I’m off-track, my apologies, let’s get down to the nitty gritty right now. The AWF Prestige Championship, in recent months, has been in a downfall with champions like Seth Dillinger and Keith Williams taking the place as face of the company -- almost leaning it down a dark path which I did not want to see it go down -- and with a champion like Adam Sanders at the helm, I have full trust in the new face of the company being one to lead the way. So now, I ask the champion to come on out and meet with me here. Adam, step out from the back, please.
There’s a moment's pause as the fans look towards the entrance curtain, they expect the champion’s arrival any second now.
The drum fill followed by the opening guitar riff for the title track off the fourth studio album by Canadian punk band Sum 41 begins to blare on the Ascension PA system. The fans begin to cheer as the lights go dark and a single spotlight appears on the ramp.
“One, two, three, four”
The rest of the band joins the guitar as Adam Sanders emerges behind the curtain, the AWF Prestige Championship resting on his shoulder as it shines in the spotlight’s beams. The fans give the Awkward One loud cheers as the spotlight follows his trek towards the ring.
Horton: Stop right there, Adam, that’s enough space between us. COVID protocols and such, you know the rules better than I do. Now, the reason why I have you out here is to find out your opponent for Clash of The Icons, and believe me, Adam... I’ve scoured throughout the entire AWF roster, I’ve done up the numbers of people’s performances, and everyone’s been doing good -- except for one, who has been doing exceptionally good.
Adam looks onto Horton with a confused look, there’s something about the wording that Horton uses that’s not sitting right with Adam. Like there’s some master plan that he’s got in his head for Adam.
Horton: This person, Adam, is someone I wondered how you’d find your way around this. I’ve wondered if they’d be the right opponent for you, considering the history with one another, and rightfully so since they’ve been in the ring with you more times than anyone else might have. The good thing about a good champion is watching them squirm, watching them adapt, watching them wiggle out of absolutely any situation that’s put in front of them. Which is why this opponent is perfect for you, Adam.
The vague description isn’t a lot for Adam to take a guess as to who it might be, but as Horton steps closer to the ropes, and the security hops down from the apron to leave an opening for Horton to look right down at Adam. The Awkward One is clearly feeling uneasy at the glances Horton is giving him.
Horton: Adam, I want to see that look in your eyes. I want to see that fear taking over you. In the main event match at Clash of The Icons, I am giving you the toughest challenge you’ll ever have to date. I am giving you the biggest challenger you might have ever had in AWF. This person knows you like the back of their hand, they know you all too well, and well… they should… since she’s your tag team partner.
Adam finally snaps to who Horton is referencing, and Adam’s heart skips a beat, his eyes widen as he seems breathless.
Horton: Your opponent at Clash of The Icons, and challenging you for the AWF Prestige Championship, is none other than Betsy Granger.
It was like the air was taken out of the WVU Coliseum as the announcement was officially made. Adam’s jaw was dropped. The fans are stunned in disbelief. Even Taylor and Romano aren’t even sure how to proceed. Horton doesn’t even say another word, simply rolls back out of the ring and exits from the side stage.
Taylor: I can’t believe it! Horton just… I am speechless!
Romano: So is everyone else here. Including Adam Sanders himself.
Taylor: Well, it’s official. At Clash of the Icons, it will be Adam Sanders versus Betsy Granger for the AWF Prestige Championship.
Romano: Two best friends since before they were even wrestlers. Man, this is going to be one feisty match, that’s for sure.
Sanders looks at his championship one last time before the commentators conclude the show.
Taylor: Well, that will do it for AWF Prestige. We’re going to have two weeks to digest this announcement next time we see you. On behalf of Cassius Romano, I am Tommy Taylor, we will see you all next Prestige!
