It is a spring Friday evening.
The tired sun has begun to end its usual round trip around the world and is setting down, reddening the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Eron Hunter is sitting near the seashore, somewhere in the Mediterranean area. He looks at the waves, letting out a prolonged sigh.
“Silence is golden.
I´ve said this before when facing Jay Stevens, talking is silver but silence is golden. I guess my opponents are busy taking care of stuff and training for our upcoming match. The fatal four-way is not an easy match, indeed. Taking care of your opponent and being aware of your surroundings, not letting anyone else get the pinfall, or allowing anyone to backstab you while you face someone else.
It’s tough.
But not impossible
One of us wins this match and goes on to face D or Kuma…
..Or whoever is holding that belt at that moment.
It´s going to be a stellar match, indeed
Facing D, the guy who beat me to go and become the first Openweight champion. That´s some cosmological stuff right there. Fans are going to go bonkers, I tell you. Fighting for that belt is going to be some crazy night, the night in which Eron Hunter becomes the legit Openweight champion, holding that belt with Honor and Dignity.
Just like I always do.
With Honor…
…And dignity.
A righteous champion, right there.”
Eron scratches his head, just as If he would want to shake some thoughts off, and resumes his passionate speech, now with a calmer tone.
“But I guess I must hold my horses, right there.
To beat the man, I got to beat three other people first.
Joe Ghaven is no slouch, a giant of a man, tough as a nail, six-foot ten of power, standing right there in front of you. A David versus Goliath situation, indeed. No one said it would be easy. Taking down such an experienced fighter will be no task for the faint at heart. He got power and motivation; he needs to go up the ranks, been a while since he tasted gold, I guess, and that makes him a ferocious adversary.
How do I plan to take on such a fighter?
With courage and heart.
I might not be the biggest man around, but I got a giants heart. You throw me down; I come up again and charge forwards. Physical prowess is fine and dandy, but a titan´s heart, beats that any given time of the day.
Then there´s Steve Awesome.
The fellow has been around for decades. How do you beat such an experienced opponent?
With a passion for the fight…
…and the energy of youth. You got to fight with all your might and put your heart where your mind is. Your mind tells you to stop? Your body gives you signals, telling you it can’t go anymore? All you got to do is give your warrior heart the lead. It will guide you to success.
Experience is good and dandy, but young fighters beat experienced ones, it happens every day. If you got the fervor needed to go onwards, you win. This time it will be no different. Eron Hunter versus Steve Awesome, great match indeed, I am sure I got the bravery to best this man.
I will win!
Keith Williams is no different than any other megalomaniac, filling the arenas of the different federations you might like to go and watch fights in.
Thinking you are the best?
That you can´t lose?
What will you do when you hit that wall? That insurmountable wall you cannot jump over? How will you justify sour failures to your ego? What will you say to yourself, when you lose to someone you never thought you would?
That it was just a one-time deal? That you´ll never lose again? And what if you do? What will the excuse be for your second failure? And your third?
Don´t get me wrong, I don´t think you suck. I think you are a great fighter, but I also think your ego is bigger than your fighting spirit.
I think that when you finally hit that wall when you finally find that opponent you can´t defeat or beat, precisely then will your biggest and final trial begin. The challenge you gotta master, to grow as a fighter and as a human being...
..the fight, against your ego!”
Eron takes a deep breath, looking towards the horizon, and lies down on the white sand, arms behind his head.
“ A great fight indeed! Four egos, one winner…
..And win or lose, that winner is me!
Adding more experience to the vast ocean of experience I have, that´s a great thing indeed. Win or lose, I go out as the victor.
That´s what legendary stuff is made of.
That´s what dreams are made of.
See you fellows in the ring!”
