As the night rolls over into the following day's morning, the press room in the Scotiabank Arena is still buzzing. Nearly two hours after the conclusion of the main event, newly crowned NPW North American Cruiserweight Champion Jay Stevens enters.
Flanked, as always, by "Kid Dynamite" Nicole Anderson and Crusher Neal, Jay marches straight to the podium while Anderson parades around the room holding the title belt over her head.
Jay Stevens: First off, I'd like to thank you all for hanging out. I want to say a few words before we dive in.
As Anderson walks in front of him, Jay snatches the belt from her hands and sets it down on the table to his left.
Stevens: I just spent nearly an hour trying to get Gus Arnold to take this belt back. His only response was “sometimes pro wrestling happens”. What you saw out there was not how I wanted to win this championship and instead of standing here finally having the answer, there are just more questions, so… questions?
He smiles. Justin Spencer is the first to speak up.
Justin Spencer: Jay, you said that you tried to return the championship, why?
Stevens: I have been standing here in front of you for nearly a year talking about bringing honor back to professional wrestling. Talking about bringing the sport back. As an honorable man, I couldn’t stand to be crowned champion the way I was tonight.
Spencer: So what next then, will you defend the Cruiserweight Championship?
Stevens: It’s been made clear to me that I have to, I have been given no choice. I am the officially recognized Cruiserweight Champion of Northern Pro Wrestling so, despite not winning in the fashion I should have, I still have a mission. I will bring prestige back to the belt.
AllWrestling.net’s Katelyn Jensen is next to her feet.
Katelyn Jensen: Has Gus Arnold given you any indication on who will be your first challenger?
Stevens: He didn’t say. It wasn’t really the topic of the conversation we were having, but I made it clear to him the same as I made it clear before, I will defend this title against anyone. This belt has made it into my possession in less than ideal circumstances, but as champion I have one option only, and that’s to be champion.
Stevens pauses and glances at the title belt.
Stevens: I’m not going to treat this belt like a prop, like Lord Dominicus did. It’s not an accessory. It is the physical representation of the fact that I am the best wrestler in the world. And every time I step in the ring with that belt, I will prove it and leave with it intact.
A rather rotund young man stands up and raises his hand. Jay motions to him to ask his question.
“AlmightyKingDong from the WrestlingNeckbeard.net Forums. What would you say to those who say you can’t get anything done on your own? First Dusty Griffith saved you. Then Jesse Jamester gave you a hand with Eron Hunter. And tonight, the Dark Stars.”
Stevens shrugs and looks to his teammates.
Stevens: Well, I’d say thank you for watching my matches and following my history.
The press room laughs.
Stevens: But that brings me to the final point I’d like to make. If anyone finds themselves with the urge to interfere in my matches or attack my opponents, you will be in my crosshairs.
Jay gathers the Cruiserweight Championship belt and slings it over his shoulder for the first time. He and his Wrecking Crew depart.
