A thin grey commercial carpet covered the floor beneath Blake Samuels’ feet as he straightened his navy tie and adjusted himself under the matching NPW embroidered jacket. Stood by the door to the office of none other than the boss himself, Gus Arnold, Blake flashes a smile for the camera as it starts rolling.

”Hey NPW fans, Blake Samuels here live at NPW Headquarters and I hope to have a very special guest about to join me any moment now.” There’s a legitimate excitement in his voice, in the very air around NPW itself!

Exciting things we’re happening throughout the company and the general feeling was that the roster was just exploding with talent, any number of talents ready to make their mark. Exciting times laid ahead.

”I’m told that behind this door, Northern Openweight Champion ’D’ is signing a blank contract for a championship match at the next edition of Honor! We’re going to try to get a word with the champion…”

Trailing off as the door opens, Gus and the enigma shake hands as ’D’, dressed in a black form fitting sport shirt and well worn jeans, shoulders the Northern Openweight Championship. Seeing the camera, Gus smiles as he closes the door and disappears back into the stack of new contracts he has to review.

”Blake, right?” The enigma asks, ensuring he had the name correct.

Taking no offense as they’d barely been introduced this far, the lone NPW interviewer smiles warmly. ”Yes, good seeing you again. Think you could spare a minute for the fans?” Setting the microphone he carried just beneath the chin of the enigma, the Openweight champion smirks.

Being one of the more reclusive members of the roster, this wasn’t his usual style but Samuels’ ambition had impressed him. ”Ok Blake…” He nodded. ”…what can I do for you?”

Having expected silence, Blake paused a moment before he was able to ask his question. ”Well, I see you’re here at NPW offices and rumour has it you just signed a blank contract that can be claimed by anyone on the roster. Any truth to that?”

Nodding again, he was impressed by the research Blake had put into this little ambush. ”Yeah, that’s exactly what I just finished doing actually. Gus has the contract in his office and all anyone has to do is claim it to get a one on one match for the Northern Openweight Championship!”

Surprise has his features as Blake responds, ”That’s a bold move, essentially challenging to whole roster like that.”

Waving Blakes statement off, ’D’ shakes his head. ”Don’t think of it that way, this isn’t about ego. It’s about establishing…” Patting the Championship belt for emphasis, he was being completely honest. ”…this title as the Championship to watch in Northern Pro Wrestling. This is about starting the legacy of this title with something special. An opportunity.”

Repeating the enigma’s words, Blake questions, ”An opportunity?”

Looking down the camera, ’D’ is excited, passionate about the chance he’s offering the roster. ”Yes,, too many times we say in this business ’look at that guy or look at that girl, if they only got a shot’…” He said trailing off. ”…but no more! Do you feel you’ve been working hard and deserve a reward? Contact Gus. Do you feel you’ve been over-looked? Just contact Gus. Are you new to NPW and looking to cause waves the same way I did? Just contact Gus. Do you just think you can beat me? Contact Gus. It doesn’t matter what your motivations are, all anyone on the roster has to do is contact Gus Arnold and sign their name and they’re next in line. Maybe it’s them heading to August on the Atlantic to face Steve Awesome in the main event of night two! All you have to do is sign! Now if you’ll excuse me, a have a roster of possibilities to prepare for…” Patting Blake on the shoulder as he stepped, ’D’ had excused himself and now was gone to disappear down a hallway and around a corner leaving Blake Samuels much in the same manner he’d found him, alone, smiling for the camera.

”There you have it folks! Straight from the champion himself and Gus Arnold has announced that this open challenge will, in fact, occur monthly! ’D’ is doing his best to set the bar for all future Openweight Champions, let’s see who steps up to the open challenge! With such a large number of new names on the roster…it could literally be anyone! I’m Blake Samuels for NPW and I’ll see you in Halifax at Scotiabank Centre!”

With the venue plug complete, our final image is of Blake standing before the rich stained hardwood of Gus Arnold’s office. Who would accept the challenge?
