We open on a television set with two large chairs facing one another. Immediately, NLW reporter, Kelly Ross walks in and takes a seat.
Kelly (to cameraman): I’m still not comfortable with this.
Cameraman (off-screen): Security is right outside in case it goes south.
Kelly gives him a look.
Kelly: Was that a bad pun?
Before he can answer, we hear a door open in the studio and footsteps approach. Waylon Kirk, half of the New South and G1 competitor enters and takes a seat across from Kelly . Both of them look a bit uncomfortable. Kelly goes to talk but is interrupted by Kirk.
Waylon: I know you’re the interviewer and you’re supposed to kick us off but I think I owe you an apology from myself and on behalf of the entire New South.
Kelly is clearly taken aback by this and stammers out a response.
Kelly: I...you’re...I’m sorry, I just didn’t expect that. The last time I was near you, you were about to attack me and I hit Jolene with a chair.
Waylon: Look, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and we’ve talked as a team. We came to the NLW with a chip on our shoulders and a lot to prove. And the truth is, we haven’t done nearly as much of that as we wanted. I haven’t done as much as I wanted. So honestly, we’re refocusing.
Kelly: Tell me about that, what is Waylon Kirk’s focus? What is the New South’s focus?
Waylon: We still want to win, that hasn’t changed and won’t change. But we’re focused on how we prove ourselves TO ourselves. Those matches with the Goons were all about proving something to them. We never stopped to think about what we were doing for ourselves.
Kelly: Is that why you entered the G1?
Waylon: It is. I wanted to prove myself against the best. One on one, fair as fair. Last week I got to stand toe to toe with Felix and he gave me every last bit he had - but I still came out on top. This week I’ve got the biggest challenge of my career.
Kelly: X*Crown Champion, MYOJIN.
Waylon just nods silently for a moment, looking for words.
Waylon: Exactly. I’ve already had some big matches since getting here but this trumps them all. This is my chance to stare down arguably the most talented wrestler in all of XHF and come out the other side with a victory. I know going in to this that I’m the underdog. MYOJIN, I won’t take anything from you - who you are and what you’ve accomplished but don’t overlook me because Waylon Kirk is bringing everything I’ve got.
Kelly: Waylon, thank you for joining me and, I can’t really believe I’m saying this, I honestly wish you the best of luck.
