ARGH!
We open up on the apartment of the young El Rey. He sits alone in the center of the living room. His sofa is flipped on its back and his coffee table has been slide off to the side. His hands are buried in his face. It has been a long time since we’ve seen him in this state.
Why couldn’t I win? Why couldn’t I beat him? I know I can. I know I’m better. I know I should’ve beat him.
He lets out a primal scream and then there’s a knock at the door. El Rey gets up, wipes his face, and tries to look normal before answering the door. He swings it open and someone he doesn’t recognize answers.
Hello, I’m the super here and there’s been a noise complaint. Is everything okay? I would hate if someone called the police.
Everything is fine.
Uh, why is the couch tipped over? You know if that breaks it’ll come out of your deposit. This was a furnished place so that belongs to the building.
I just moved it for space. Everything is fine.
The teenager then slams the door in the face of the super and turns around.
I just need to calm down. It was a fluke. I’ve turned a corner. I don’t need to do this any more and I don’t need anyone’s help. I should just call Evan or Malcolm. They’ll talk me through this.
El Rey reaches in his pocket and pulls out his phone, but as he does it starts ringing. He looks at it and his face turns to anger as we see Scorpion’s face on his phone.
I DONT NEED YOU!
He screams and throws his phone against the wall. It stops ringing as it hits and falls to the floor. There’s another knock on the door.
Im fine, I just tripped and dropped my phone. Everything is fine. Go away.
The knocking stops and El Rey sits down.
I don’t need him. I don’t need him. I turned the corner and I can do this by myself. What happened with Adam was just a speed bump. All I have to do is refocus and I can beat Goon. I know he would say I need to learn from my mistakes, but I don’t need him to know that. I’ve already grown and evolved without him. I beat Big Bone after I lost to him originally. I got rid of Joe Blow. I can do anything. I can do this, everything is fine.
He sits again, alone in his apartment. He begins to rock on the floor with his hands again cupping his face. We begin to fade and we hear a muffled El Rey one more time.
Everything is fine.
