“This right here… this is what represents the year I had last year.”
Adam Sanders stands in an almost empty warehouse with nothing but the lighting and a table in front of him. The Awkward One, donning a suit and tie, places a briefcase on the table with the XHF End of Days logo clearly visible for the camera to see.
“You hear the rumblings already. Do you hear them, Graham? What about you, Lazarus? It’s coming. End of Days 2021. Sixteen people from all over the XHF Network compete in a tournament to make a name for themselves outside their own locker room. They fight for a shot at the X*Crown Championship or another belt in their company. And that tournament bracket is about to fill up all over again.
“It was how I got noticed on a network-wide level. I went into End of Days 2020 as a nobody… someone who was dismissed quite quickly by most of the field. Then I got past Spike Skye in the first round in NPW. Then I beat Rin Kubo in CAR in a Wind Tunnel Match while wearing a wingsuit. I was stabbed and set on fire in AWF against Zoran Sainovic before nearly having my head taken off by that giant sword and King Brad Swann.
“I went through hell and back to get this briefcase. But after that? I haven’t been afraid of anyone since. Not because I am some unbeatable monster. I totally can be beaten. But there is nothing that anyone can do to me that hasn’t been done to me. I’m sorry, Graham Baker and Lazarus Arjen… you’re not going to stab me, set me on fire, send me flying over fifteen feet through the air or try to behead me with a broadsword. I dare you to put me in the ground because you DON’T scare me after everything I’ve been through.”
The Awkward One unlocks the briefcase before opening the briefcase to show the contract inside. The XHF Network logo was on the top of the front page and though the small text was unreadable for the camera, Adam’s large signature at the bottom was.
“Three of us left with briefcases: Dakota Jennings, Zoran Sainovic, and me. Zoran went for the X*Crown at Supremacy and came up short. Dakota left and came back without an opportunity to cash in for the X*Crown and missed her chance to use her briefcase at all for the AWF Prestige Championship. With those two missed opportunities, I knew that I had to make sure that I made the most of mine.
“So why did I wait till the eleventh hour if I had this briefcase for a secondary championship match for almost a year? It’s quite simple… I was given an opportunity to be in a world championship match. I started fighting at the top of the card in my previous company. I started stacking wins. I found myself in the main event at Road To Victory for the Prestige Championship and left as the victor, this briefcase took a seat on the back burner for a little bit. Let me emphasize this for those not paying attention: I DIDN’T CASH IN FOR THE UNITED STATES BECAUSE I WON THE BIG BELT. Then AWF closed, and I decided on a new home here in NLW.
“I joined the G1 tournament here to get myself started here in NLW. But my intent was always that if I wasn’t in the finals, I was going to cash in this briefcase for the Southern States Championship. That was always the plan. And it took the same level of competition to knock me out of both the End of Days tournament and the G1 tournament… someone who has held or is currently holding the X*Crown Championship… one of the best wrestlers in the entire XHF Network.”
Sanders starts to lose his cool a little bit as he starts moving towards his opponents more directly. He starts to straighten his tie a bit before leaning on the table in front of him.
“So when you tell me that people are willfully ignorant, Lazarus… why don’t YOU try to keep up with what the hell is going on? It wasn’t a loophole. I EARNED this opportunity with EVERYTHING I had. I took down an XHF Tag Team Champion. I fought the reigning FWA World Champion to get this briefcase. You don’t care about this but you better start caring because that is WHY I am across the ring from you and Baker. Just because I’m new to NLW doesn’t mean you should dismiss me as some nobody. I’m not. It’s more relevant than your Kingdom Pro career, and that’s not a hot take. I’ve been a World Champion in this umbrella. I’ve fought some of the best names in the XHF. I’ve BEATEN some of the best as well. And I’ve already made my mark here in NLW.
“And then there’s Graham Baker, the former champion. You underestimated Lazarus Arjean last time. I saw when you were getting ready for Eve of Champions, all your words were David Goon, David Goon… and you ignored Lazarus. So is this where you overcorrect? You going to focus on Arjean, Arjean, Arjean and ignore me? Triple threats are a fickle beast. You think you’re doing well until you look up and one of your opponents just pinned the other. You have to keep your focus. Look at Lazarus, for an example. He’s worried about you AND me equally. He is more bloodthirsty for you for obvious reasons, but he knows I’m in there to play spoilsport and advance my own career.
“This is, when it’s all said and done, a business.”
Adam Sanders closes the briefcase with a sense of finality. He gives the camera one last serious glare before uttering his final sentence.
“I’m just going to make the best deal I can for myself and my future.”
