The scene opens on an aerial shot of a glittering, otherworldly sky. It’s the same unnatural place keen-eyed viewers might have seen in the snippet of new NLW wrestler Keahi Sparks doing (presumably) her best Clint Eastwood impression.
It wasn’t very good.
The scene flies quickly down out of this sky, down through the top of an ancient stone structure. We take a different angle, and it looks like there is some kind of large carving on the side of the temple, but then we’re shooting down through corridors with treacherous traps and such.
We revisit the same treasure room that was seen in that vignette, but only long enough to show that in addition to ancient crimson silks, a bust of a famous detective, a cannonball, and a strange artifact that floats and rotates in midair, there is a simple, thin pair of black rectangular spectacles resting reverently on the silks.
The view then zooms through the cache, winding its way through several treacherous passageways, until we find ourselves in a room that seems almost out of place in an ancient temple or tomb.
A mess hall.
It’s not a large hall. It is largely rectangular, with a fire pit on one side and a long table with three place settings. The settings themselves are not differentiated by rank, but none of the crockery or silverware match. A chalice that was once mistaken for the Holy Grail is three feet away from an oversized coffee mug and a fork that almost definitely killed a Roman of lead poisoning.
The two people sitting at the table are almost as mismatched. Keahi Sparks, the woman who emerged from the shadows in the vignette, is still dressed in a dramaturg’s nightmare, but the woman sat next to her in the middle place is larger and somehow more out of place by being dressed normally, in a tanktop and (presumably) jeans. Her short blonde hair frames a strong jaw and sapphire eyes.
“The ploy to say less did not work.”
“I didn’t expect it to, but it was worth shooting the shot.”
The woman in the tanktop has a smartphone and is scrolling on it. Keahi is trying not to look at it (and failing); whether she thinks it is sorcery or quaint is hard to tell.
“Instead of having one opponent, I now have three.”
“Yeah. If I knew they were going to put you into a Trios match, I’d’ve suggested you get me and Ruby in.”
“I’d probably have a better chance, fighting alongside warriors I know, but you know we can’t leave the temple unguarded.“
“Yeah, yeah....” The woman who we can presume is called Sapphire or something, given the reference to “Ruby” while talking to “The Emerald Blade,” doesn’t seem convinced. “Even though it would only be for a few hours?”
“With none of us here to anchor the time dilations, one second or many weeks could pass. I certainly wouldn’t want to leave the door open for any of the people I have to fight in the coming days. Monsters, the lot of them.”
“Even Gates?”
“Especially Gates. I do not know much about these people outside of the brief overviews you showed me on your device, but I trust Gates least of all. The other two might find an artifact in the depths of the temple and wreak havoc, but I have seen Timothy’s like before. He thinks he’s smarter than the billions of souls that have come before him and could succeed where countless others have failed. Luckily, I don’t foresee their team being cohesive.”
“Why do you say that?”
“One serves no one, one serves a master he does not understand, and one believes he should be everyone’s master. They will be a dangerous group, but as long as Felix and Sanderson persevere, I believe victory to be inevitable.”
Sapphire can’t help but grin at Keahi’s confidence. “Those are famous last words, Keahi.”
Keahi smiles, but with a hint of darkness in her eyes. “I may be new to professional wrestling, but I am not new to combat or warfare. A united front wins against a fractured one 99% of the time.”
Sapphire raises an eyebrow.. “And the other one percent?”
Keahi’s eyes flash, the green glowing too bright to be natural., and her smile is gone. “Let’s not get into that. Ruby should be back soon.” Keahi stands up and walks away, prompting Sapphire to follow her with furrowed brow..
(P.S.: jeans confirmed)
