Now, moving right along, we come to the portion of the show where we speak to the wrestlers you, the listeners, want to hear from most. Our guest today is one of the most talked about wrestlers in the business today. He is the longest reigning champion in the history of Ultimate Progressive Wrestling, a young but exciting promotion out of Las Vegas. He is a wizard of technical wrestling and one of the most knowledgeable submission specialists I've seen in quite a long time, as well as being a master of in ring psychology. Devin Bishop, welcome to the show. It's a real treat to have you on the show today.
Bishop: Thanks so much for having me on today.
Grandstaf: Well, let's jump right in, Devin. Tell us a little about UP Wrestling for the listeners who may not be familiar with the promotion.
Bishop: UPW was founded in 2020 by Elijah Anderson, and we are coming up on our two year anniversary in January of next year. We have grown from a small promotion operating primarily from the Sahara Events Center in Las Vegas to being a member of the XHF network, touring up and down the West Coast, and even going international with our special event, Hostile Fury, coming to Korakuen Hall in Tokyo Japan on October 30th.
Grandstaf: And you've had a big part to play in UPW's success. Not only are you the World Openweight Champion, a title you've held for the better part of this year, but you're also a founding member of the Black Hand, a faction that is really taking the wrestling world by storm. I see Black Hand tee shirts all over the place, even at other promotion's shows. The four of you are really making an impact, especially after winning the Dead Man's Hand match at Sin City Strike.
Bishop: That's right. That match earned the rest of the guys, Rain Blackheart, and the team of Rated M, Adam Miller and King Diaz, the chance to bring home all of the gold to the Black Hand and I have every confidence that is exactly what will happen at Hostile Fury.
Grandstaf: You'll also defend the Openweight Championship against the number one contender, Nathaniel at that event, but let's come back to that in a minute. First, I want to talk about the match coming up at Friday Night Free for All where the Black Hand will take on Nathaniel, Sin City Champion Dillian DeHaven, and the Tag Team Champions, Jester LeBeau and Ariana Sears, Disorganized Chaos. It's sure to be an exciting contest. What do you think are your team's chances of walking away victorious?
Bishop: Is that even a real question, Brandon, or did you mean to give me a chance to brag. Let me break it down for you. DeHaven...done it. Sears….done it. I single handedly beat both of them at Sin City Strike. I'm the Champion of Champions and I showed the world why I'm the longest reigning champion by beating them both. Jester? He's been in and out of the hospital for the past two months. The only thing he's proved to me is that he is very good at getting his ass kicked and abusing substances as well as his own body. Plus, I've got Rain Blackheart on my team. The Professional. He is the only guy in the whole company who could give me a run for my money in pure mat wrestling, and that makes him one of the elite technicians in the sport. King Diaz is one of the founding pillars of UPW. One of the top guys from the very beginning. He is more focused now than ever before and ready to take the Black Hand to the next fucking level. Same goes for Adam Miller. These two are a dynamic, intense, and cohesive unit, which is more than I can say for the opposite side of the ring. Jester and Sears are falling apart, just like the CCZA. Have you seen the way they are treating Mark Murphy? Or the way they cast Terrance Christopher aside. Trust me, it's only a matter of time before Ragsdale gets tired of DeHaven and Nathaniel and replaces them, mark my words.
Grandstaf: That seems unlikely, Devin. Dillian DeHaven is the Sin City Champion, and Nathaniel is the number one contender to your title.
Bishop: And Mark Murphy was the tag team champion with DeHaven. You may remember a tag team called Public Nuisance. They were a hot commodity, on top of their game. Then Murphy started having a few personal problems and Ragsdale started treating him like trash. The second DeHaven or Nathaniel can't deliver... can't line Ragsdales's pockets... it's over.
Grandstaf: That's a pretty bold assertion. Now, let's move on to your title defense coming up at Hostile Fury. It seems like you've been purposely pushing Nathaniel's buttons, which I think is a brilliant strategy, but his girlfriend slash valet Brittany has stated that you don't want to make Nathaniel angry, that he can be very dangerous when he is so angry.
Bishop: Dangerous if you're an elderly woman, a cerebral palsy patient failing to thrive because of neglect, or maybe a child...so neglected that they can barely speak, haven't been potty trained, probably malnourished, unwashed...what a fucking price of human garbage! Both of them! Wolfe and Stone! Hell, he might even be dangerous if you're one of his junkie friends who shorted him on a bag of weed or crystal meth, but let me make one thing abundantly clear. I'm not an old woman. I'm not an invalid. I'm not a child. I'm not a strung out junkie. I am a world class athlete at the peak of my game. I'm the World...Openweight...Wrestling Champion. All the rage, fury, violent tendencies...they will not bring you up to my level. Ragsdale is a fan because he knows that there isn't a single, solitary soul in the locker room that isn't playing catch up ball to Devin Bishop. I'm Ragsdales's wet dream...an athlete who goes out and produces results every single time I climb into the ring. Cliff would shave his head bald all over again and drop his entire stable of clients to get the thinnest sliver of this pie. That's why he is loath to say that Nathaniel is the better man. That's why he doesn't want a war with Devin Bishop and the Black Hand. And that's exactly why you won't be able to count on him one hundred percent, Nathaniel, because in the back of Ragsdales's mind, maybe in his deepest darkest subconscious, he is still holding out hope that I give him a sliver.
Gandstaf: Well no one can accuse Devin Bishop of being short on confidence. Thanks so much for stopping by, Devin.
Bishop: My pleasure, Brandon.
Gandstaf: Everyone, be sure to tune in to Friday Night Free for All this coming Friday on the XHF network to see Devin Bishop and the Black Hand take on Nathaniel, DeHaven, and Disorganized Chaos in the main event. It's sure to be a classic, and UPW and XHF are just giving it away, just like our sponsors at Chocolate Bliss are giving away a free one pound bar of their delicious Slovakian Sin when you place an order of fifty dollars or more with the promo code 618 at checkout….
