David Beg is sitting at the beach watching the palm trees sway back and forth. The ocean is peaceful and quiet. His right leg is bandaged up after being stabbed by a pencil. Failure is on his mind. The man was beaten by the brute CJ Walker. A lesson truly learned. In the business of professional wrestling rules are but suggestions and the brutality that the competitors strike with cannot be measured. David let his country down, his family down, let himself down. The 22-year old neophyte is not feeling sad or empty. The man is feeling angry. The would on his knee is healing quickly. The doctor himself said that you cannot buy youth and the young do heal fast. He doesn’t feel the physical pain. Not from the stab wound not from the heart punch. CJ Walker will in fact pay for his sins in due time. His phone rings and its Face Time. This is management from Israel, likely calling to scold him. Berg hesitates for an instance but understands his position and answers the call.
Berg: Good morning
Voice: Mr. Berg, how are you?
Berg: Fine
Voice: You do not seem fine
Berg: I am FINE
Voice: Great to hear. Good job in your match.
Berg: What?!?! I lost.
Voice: Mr. Berg of course you lost. You are a rookie. You are inexperienced. You are living in a new country without any friends or family. Did you think you would go undefeated?
Berg: I am here as a soldier for our country and I failed.
Voice: Your mission is indeed critical but you will not be successful if you do not educate yourself in the business of pro wrestling. We have our team fully intact here and we are ready to help you. But you have to separate yourself from the military style thinking. Wrestling is about sports and entertainment. For you to spread the message for Israel and our people you need to what they say “get over”.
Berg: “Get over”?
Voice: Sorry “Go over”
Berg: Go over where
Voice: You’re not going anywhere you have to “Go Over” is an idiom
Berg: So its “Go Over” not “Get Over”?
Voice: No sorry, you have to “Get over” not necessarily “Go Over” but it helps to “Go over” to “Get over” but not always.
Berg: Is this some sort of new torture technique you are using on me?
Voice: I am checking my notes. Anyway let me try this again.
Berg: OK?
Voice: “Go Over” means to win. So when you “Go Over” you win. You want to try your best to “Go over” as victory is of course important.
Berg: Understood and of course I agree.
Voice: “Get Over” means you are in with the crowd. They are reacting to you.
Berg: They like me?
Voice: No not like but they have a reaction. Hate can be as strong as like. What you do not want at all cost is ambivalence.
Berg: So to get a reaction I need to “Go Over”?
Voice: Not necessarily.
Berg: Why would the fans care about a loser?
Voice: They likely would not.
Berg: So I do need to “Go over”
Voice: No. Losing a match or matches and being a loser are not the same. You did beat Saint Sakura and CJ Walker had to resort to stabbing you and you still survived his finisher the heart punch. The fans are reacting to you but you need to show more emotion in the ring. You cannot just win, you need to win and have the fans react.
Berg: How on Earth do I do that?
Voice: You know how. This is why you were picked for this mission. Yes, you are a big guy. But you weren’t the biggest. Yes you can fight well but you weren’t the best in the unit. Yes, you are very adaptable but you weren’t the most adaptable. Yet you were picked for this highly critical mission.
Berg: Thank you for the vote of confidence....So why was I picked then?
Voice: You were the most handsome and the Western World and actually countries like Japan prefer handsome competitors.
Berg: How the hell was that judged?
Voice: We polled 50k females.
Berg: 50k?!?!?!
Voice: Yes. They found you to be and I quote “Quite the eye candy”.
Berg: This is most disturbing. And yet fascinating.
Voice: Oh relax. You are still a bad ass fighter. It wasn’t just looks it was the total package as they say but your primary roles are not to just “Go over” or win but to “Get over” meaning getting the crowd to care and the two do not always go hand in hand.
Berg: I am beginning to understand.
Voice: Excellent. Now for your upcoming match.
Berg: Yes?
Voice: You get your shot at CJ Walker again, The Crimson Mask will be there as well as Vicious and you. All in the ring at the same time. Like when our great country was attacked by Egypt, Jordan and Syria. You will fight them all.
Berg: I will beat them All! ALL will feel the wrath of the King of the Streets. I will do this for my people. The Crimson Mask likely underestimates me. CJ Walker likely believes he will defeat me again.
Voice: Do not get blinded Mr. Berg. You must not only “Go Over” you also must “Get Over”. Use some of that special forces ninja shit as one of the commentators said.
Berg: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR….well if that is what the crowd wants that is precisely what the crowd will receive. My competitors may stab me with pencils, pens, protractors, rulers, crayons. I do not care. Pain is just weakness leaving your body. I will unleash an attack like not other. I will reclaim glory for myself and our people.
Voice: Excellent. Most excellent. And you will do so while being handsome.
Berg: Whatever. I am the King of the Streets for a reason. I have fought multiple opponents before and many times and I have been stabbed, shot, stoned and whipped. This is nothing new to me. Vicious, Mask, CJ. We have a brawl and I will be ready.
I WILL BEAT THEM ALL!
(Berg smirks as the scene fades)
