(Open to Jack’s Place where the bartenders are busy running the show and waiting for Jack’s return from Japan.
(They got a call from the State Department stating that Jack would be escorted back to the bar.
(Moe and Archie are busy talking among themselves.)
Moe: So, what do you think that crazy cowboy did this time?
Archie: I’m hoping he didn’t get drunk and take a poke at a Japanese policeman. I did that once when I was in the Navy and I’ll tell you, it never ends well.
Moe: I never knew you were in the Navy.
Archie: Yeah, did my tour, got out and started slinging booze instead of trying to drink it all.
(The door opens and Smilin’ Jack comes in, his hands cuffed together. Standing next to him is a large man in a black suit, fedora and dark sunglasses.)
Andy: Here you are Mr. Ruby.
Jack: Thanks. Uh, ya think you can take these off now?
Andy: Yeah, I think it’s safe.
(Andy produces a key and uncuffs Jack. Jack starts to rub the wrist on his good hand then shakes Andy’s hand.)
Jack: Thanks for the escort and all your hard work.
Andy: My pleasure. Next time you’re in Japan, try not to let your match spill out into the street where the police get involved.
Jack: Yeah, it did kind of get out of hand there.
Andy: Oh, and I nearly forgot to give you this.
(Andy hands Jack a box.)
Jack: Thanks. Tell Ishiko hello for me when you get home.
(Archie and Moe stare gape mouthed as Jack brings Andy to the bar proper.)
Jack: One for the road?
Andy: Sure.
Jack: Hey, Archie, draw one for this hard working public servant.
(Archie pulls a beer for Andy, then places it on the bar in front of him.)
Moe: So, what happened?
Jack: Did a bit of time in the keisatsusho.
Archie: The what?
Jack: Local police lock up. Think of it like a holding cell, only jammed with up to 15 other jokers and no idea when you are going to get out.
Moe: So, how did YOU get out?
Jack: Spoke nothing but English, looked at them like I had no idea what they were talking about, told them that I was guilty as hell and I wanted to talk to the embassy.
Andy: Of course, we were a bit backlogged, but then we got a call from Madame Wu and from there things moved along at a speedier pace.
Jack: I see I got home just in time to square off against Joe Nobody.
Moe: Well, welcome back.
Jack: Now, let’s get back to work. The honeymoon is over!
