The Beginning:
We open with superimposed images of the New South. All three members: Beau Traywick, Waylon Kirk and Jolene are shown over an image of the new NLW Tag Team Championships. A lone blues guitar riff plays and a man with a graveled, tired voice begins to narrate for us.
Narrator: It was January 9th, 2021. That’s the day that things changed in Next Level Wrestling, for better or worse depending on who you are or who you ask. The New South made their highly anticipated debut and made it clear from day one that they were here for no other reason than to take names, drink bourbon and kick ass.
A video montage shows the New South’s first few months in NLW. Everything from intimidating Kelly Ross, kicking El Rey squarely in the nuts, going toe to toe with the Academy.
Narrator: These two young men, full of piss and vinegar, Beau Traywick and Waylon Kirk showed up as NLW’s first official tag team - the OGs of a now booming tag team scene. From an early point, these men had a singular focus and made a simple declaration: they were the best tag team that not only the NLW had to offer but the XHF as a whole. And not everyone took that lightly.
Film of Jason Long calling out the New South at Ascendancy IX followed by a ruthless attack and a New South victory over the New Age Killers at Masquerade follows. The New South, decked out for the Mardi Gras PPV in their priest and skeleton gear have their hands held up high in victory.
Narrator: Call them whatever you want. Brash. Conceited. Hell, maybe a little arrogant. The New South followed in the footsteps of the first great kings and pharaohs. They were not chosen or anointed by God. There was no heavenly right that told them they were meant to lead - oh no.
We see a clip of the New South walking proudly to the ring carrying their fake, homemade NLW tag team titles. Additionally, we see the “champs” holding the titles high and using them as props while they scream at fans and foes alike.
Narrator: Like the first man to set a crown on his head and declare himself divine - a ruler of men and women...the New South crowned themselves, so to speak. With the arrogance of youth and the blind faith in themselves that only true icons possess - Beau Traywick and Waylon Kirk crowned themselves as NLW tag team champions - kings of a mountain they had not conquered.
What then follows is a quick montage of the New South losing matches. Pin falls, disqualifications, battle royal eliminations - it’s all there.
There is a slow fade to black before a familiar sight. A black and white shot of The New South - a tag team on the cusp of making their wildest dreams come true - sit inside of an empty ring inside of the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Narrator: No, not all was as they hoped. There were losses mixed in with the victories.
Quick clips show off the history of the New South and the Goons. Sneak attacks, lead pipes, shopping for weapons at a hardware store, and finally the New South emerging victorious in one of the most violent matches in NLW history at Ascendancy XV.
Narrator: But those victories were fewer than they hoped or even expected. What resulted was a time of introspection. Of self-reflection and recalibration. Followed by a historic run in NLW’s inaugural G1 tournament by Waylon Kirk.
Clips from Waylon Kirk’s G1 run play, showing him holding his own against NLW & XHF stars like Felix, Ryan Young, MYOJIN and Ricardo Goon, pinning Felix and Ryan Young as well as taking MYOJIN and Ricardo Goon to their limits.
We go back to Waylon & Beau sitting in the empty ring.
Narrator: Which brings us to the NLW Tag Team Title tournament. A chance for the New South to earn that which they previously claimed. To take their rightful place at the top of that mountain. To show why they ARE the OGs of NLW’s impressive tag team scene.
Waylon Kirk: Time Jumpers and Tilted Cartridges.
Beau Traywick: Beat them with The Academy.
Waylon Kirk: New Money.
Beau Traywick: More like no money because we beat them too.
Waylon Kirk: The Academy.
Beau Traywick: Icons of NLW. The mastermind that is Rob Arnold. The young upstart with more potential than common sense that is Riley Richards. NLW’s current and only two time Heavyweight Champion - Leon Chant.
Waylon Kirk: And yet?
Beau Traywick: And yet, we beat them. The toughest competition that Next Level Wrestling had to offer and yet, the New South was victorious.
Waylon Kirk: That’s right. All of the best and brightest the NLW has. Toe to toe with the New South. Trying to prevent us from fulfilling our destiny. From winning what we’ve been after since day one. From keeping us from having our names etched in the history books as the FIRST official NLW tag team champions. All of them stepped up to prevent it from happening and we beat them, fair and square. One. Two. Three.
The final scene shows the contract signing between the New South and The End. Jawing, signing and finally an all out brawl.
Scene fades to black.
