In the background, in black and white men were working. Tools screamed in protest, sparks flew through the air, men moved around the place lifting and banging on steel as they worked to raise a metal structure. They lifted it, running fence across the supports as others measured the ring. And in the center of that chaos sat a silent figure leaning back against the turnbuckles of the ring, arms across his knees as he watched it all. His face was hidden in the shadows of his hood, and when he shifted you could see the wild tangle of a beard as the figure's head lifted.
'I am not like other people. I am burning in Hell. The hell of myself.' a cold empty voice rasped, and as sparks flew across the background once more with a howl of protesting metal. The figure's hood fell back to reveal the cold angry features of Donzig, and his lip curled as his fingers flexed absently with a shrug of his shoulders.
'You see every day is a burden to me, Vodka Fizz. And I look back on a road of good intentions that brought me to this place, and when I look in the mirror? I see a monster, I see the face of a being that I don't know. I see eyes that hunger for an immortality that will never be sated, and I know that I chose this hell for myself. And what is worse? I would make the same choices again and again.'
Donzig fell silent, and he leaned forward with a roll of his shoulders. A hand lifted to drag his knuckles across his mouth, and he waved a hand. 'That is what you will be locked in this Cell with, a man who can't let himself be. A man whose pride and arrogance turned him into a nightmare! And that is where your fucking arrogance brought you, Fizz! Because I want you to know that I as I rip the flesh from your hide, as I scar your body and soul inside these four walls of steel? That this is what you brought on yourself! That this is the Hell you created! You! Not me!'
His voice rose to a shriek, a scream that cut above even the sound of the work. The crew stopped working, turning to stare at the ring as Donzig slithered to his feet. His gaze flicked towards them, and they blinked before they went back to work. Donzig licked his lips, watching them before he started to pace again. Shaking his head before he pointed at the camera, his voice lowered once more.
'And why? Because you couldn't think of enough insults to throw at Gavin Drake about his now? You had to throw his past in his face to show how great you are? Because Vodka Fizz, the great hero of Fireside never made some mistakes, eh? Is that! Well, you can run your mouth all day, hero! And all night, but when you say the name of the Scourge? Then you call down the thunder, and I will make you regret it! And so here we are! You said I make this match seem like a punishment, Fizz?'
Donzig paused, shrugging with a tilt of his head before his fingers lifted to rake through his beard.
'Every match against me is a punishment, Fizz. I am the punishment, I am the retribution that all of you people think you can escape! That you can outrun! The Reckoning! And I will make you suffer for your pride, for your insolence, I want you to know that! I want you to know exactly what is waiting for you here in Hell! Because the time is running out, hero.'
Donzig fell silent again, slowly circling around the ring with that lazy pacing. He lifted a hand, kneading it with the other as his fingers curled and flexed. He shrugged, and stared at his fist before he spoke again. Slowly looking up, and his eyes narrowed on the nearby section of the cell wall as it was slowly checked over and adjusted.
'And I want you to know that inside of this cell, you will face another choice. A simple choice, because that is all I deal in, Fizz. Drake could have told you that, Sinclair could have told you that.' Donzig shrugged, and he smirked. 'Fuck, even Fox could tell you that. Inside this cell you will have to decide what it is worth giving up, what it is worth sacrificing to defeat me. Because I don't even care if I win, I don't care if I lose! I only want to watch you suffer, I want to see you in pain, and I want to know I caused it! I want to look in your eyes, and see my face reflected in them! I want them to watch me break you, hero! I want the people in the cheap seats, the people who believe in you, the people who put their faith in the great Vodka Fizz, eh? I want them to see you broken at my feet, I want them to suffer alongside the heart and soul of Fireside as I drag you across the cell! As I batter and beat you from pillar to post, as I grind you into the fucking steel!'
His voice again in a scream, shrieking once more before he stopped. Donzig placed his hands together, taking a deep breath as he pressed his fingertips to his chin. He licked his lips, his head tilting before he spoke again softly. 'I want all the little children, all the kids in the arena, and watching at home to see you bleed, Fizz. I want their hearts to break as I show them that monsters are real, that the world is a dark cold miserable place full of suffering! And heroes like you can't fucking save them! That even if you win? The prize is so high, so bloody, that it scars you!'
Donzig walked across the ring again, and then he paused before one of the ringposts. His mask hung from it, staring silent and empty from the top of it. Donzig stared at it for a long moment, then his hand lifted to drag his fingers across the metal before he lifted it. He looked down at it, head tilting before he slowly brought it upwards to pull it across his features with a hiss.
'I want you to think about her boy as we are locked in here together, Fizz. I want you to think about Dommy and how much you mean to him as I rip you to pieces. I want you to think about how you can't protect him, and how he will see you as the sad little failure you are. A flawed creature of flesh and blood powerless in the claws of Oblivion.' the voice grew colder, and Donzig's masked head lifted. 'I want you to think about how she will look at you knowing you failed him, and her. And I want you to always remember? That is the price you paid for speaking my name with disrespect, for mocking the Scourge!'
A hand lifted, and he flicked his fingers as he stared out across the slowly rising Cell and the empty arena. 'You see Vodka Fizz, these people? Her? That child? They all love you, they all give you the love that they would never give me! No matter what I did for them, no matter how hard I tried? It was never enough! And so? You won't be the only one locked in here with me will you?'
His head shook, and he snorted laughter from behind that mask. Weird and mechanical as he leaned against the ropes in the corner. 'They all will be. And your every failure, your every sin laid bare, every cut or bruise? They will suffer with you, and it will be sweet music to my ears! More voices for the chorus of screams that is my hymn to the Void, eh? Unless, unless, you stop me.'
Donzig drew back, and he started to pace again as sparks flew, a drill sang, and the crew kept working as Donzig growled to himself. 'But don't worry, Fizz. This isn't the end of our story is it? This isn't it the finale of our little play at all is it? No, no, no. You and I have one more piece of business, and that is the Spark Championship! So I am going to leave just enough of you to crawl into Fireside, just enough of you for me to destroy once and for all! Because I want Caffrey, I want the Purple Emperor, and that woman, and all those other fucks to sit and watch me tear the bleeding heart out of Fireside! And I will lift your belt over my head, and they will all know! You failed.'
Darkness fell.
'See you soon.'
