Cheez sits rather uncomfortably at his desk rocking back and forth with his arms wrapped around its legs. Mumbling to himself his eyes dash around the room looking for something, anything. Then suddenly without warning, without rhyme or reason. He reaches over and grabs an extra keyboard, and with a swift, quick movement brings it down upon the edge of his desk with enough force to bend it in half. As the keys pop out and fly across a room, it is around this time his tag team partner Wellington Dunne walks in only to be pelted in the forehead by what appears to be the ‘H’, maybe the ‘G’ key. The small piece of plastic does nothing more than annoy, Dunne for a second, who picks up the small piece of plastic off the ground. and notices the now broken keyboard.
“Cheez what this about? Huh? What's going on?”
“Stupid, stupid, stupid.”
Cheez keeps muttering to himself, repeatedly simply ignoring Dunne’s question. Dunne walks over to his partner and again asked him the same question.
“What's wrong? What's going on?”
Cheez ignores Dunne totally devoid of any emotion, constantly repeated the word stupid to himself. It comes to a point where Dunne snaps and slaps Cheez, across the face to bring him back to reality. Cheez just sits there shocked, and yet you can see the beginning of tears beginning to well up in his eyes.
“I can't do this anymore. The gym, the workouts, the media, the people, the fans, the politics, the backstage. I can't… I can't do this anymore.”
“You can't, or you won’t.”
Cheez sits there like a deer in headlights.
“I didn't stutter. I asked you. You can't, or you won’t.”
“You know I have no reason to be out there, right. I’m serious look at me. I am a socially awkward young man, who's more comfortable in front of a computer screen than I am in front of a crowd. I grew up watching this business. Grew up watching all types of men whom I idolized. I remember spending sick days from school watching my father’s old AWA and NWA VHS tapes. See these larger-than-life men beat the hell out of each other. Men like Baron Von Raschke and the Von Erichs and The Fabulous Freebirds to The Bolsheviks and The Midnight Express and The Four Horseman, and that’s not even scratching the surface of guys for WWE or ECE or WCW, and as a kid, I idolized these men, and I wanted so badly to be like them. But the problem, and this is a big problem, is I'm not built like them.”
“True, you're body type is designed more for tech support than anything else. But just because you may not have the muscles that those men have, but you do have one thing in common with those men, heart, and determination.”
Dunne grabs a chair and sits down in front of Cheez.
“I’ve seen you improve by leaps and bounds, and you shouldn’t let a single loss after a win, get you down. And, look I get it I know what it's like to lose. You shouldn't be mad at yourself or us for losing against The Guardians. I mean Adam Sandler's is as good as they come, and Adrian Cochrane is a former X*Crown Champion and he didn’t win that title because he was bad.”
Dunne grabs Cheez’s chair and brings it closer to him, so he can look him in the eyes.
“Let me tell you a secret about this business. This business sucks and it is evil and it will beat you up at every point if you let it. But if success in this business was measured only by wins then Hall of Fames would be very barren and empty. You see sometimes it’s our actions our personalities that make people remember us. Let’s take last year’s Rumble. You may not have won the match, but ask one who saw everything leading up to it. All those memes you did, helped make you on the most popular and memorable men in that match. Even though you lost, people still knew who you were, and that’s what true success is. Before the match with The Guardians, you beat Nathan Parker, and you did that on your own. I didn’t help you at all. And why because every time you win or lose you get better, you improve.”
Cheez smiles.
“You’re right, I did beat Nathan Parker.”
“Exactly, and everyone is beginning to notice an improvement, so let’s not say we lost to The Guardians, let’s say we were under-leveled to beat them, we need to grind some more to get to their level of experience.”
Cheez sits back a bit more relaxed after Dunne’s words of encouragement.
“So what now?”
“You think you’re ready to up the difficulty some. Because we got The End, up next.”
“Title or non-title?”
“Title and you know what I believe we can beat them. No, correction I know we can beat them.”
Cheez smiles.
“The End for us, a new beginning, a sort of soft reset on our save file, in hopes of increasing our odds at shiny.”
“Exactly, we play their level before, we know all their little secrets, but this time it will be them who rage-quits and resets their console. Muscle memory is a powerful tool, and I’m sure you still have bruises from our last encounter with them.”
“Most definitely.”
“You see The End, might think they’re the end, but in reality, we’ve spent so much time working on improving ourselves, that they are no longer on our level. We outclass, outrank, and outmaneuver them at every turn. See they may try to beat us, but the truth is, they will fall short, and you know what I think this is the match we debut the finisher we’ve been working on.”
“There will be now Hard Reset on careers, this is where we take things to New Game+”
