David Berg sits on his king size back in the hotel room at the Golden Nugget. It is an approximately 600 square foot room with a big screen TV, bed and some pictures of sail boats. His balcony faces the outdoor pool area. This is home for the foreseeable future. How proud his country must be, he thinks to himself. From military hero and soon to be wrestling star to a man living at a casino in Las Vegas and excommunicated from his home country. At least Mr. Edelman was kind. A job, a place to stay and for free, food, gym to workout. It is a start but Berg remains alone. No friend. No calls from family. Not even acquaintances. At the young age of 23, David Berg is alone in a new land, new profession and new life. This would be overwhelming for many and Berg is curious how he would handle it. Suddenly his hotel phone rings and its Mr. Edelman. He invites Berg to his room, which is a suite on the top floor. Berg arrives as Edelman is sitting at the end of a comfortable sectional.
Edelman: Sit down young David, please sit.
(Berg sits down)
Edelman: I would like you to watch a movie with me.
Berg: Movie?
Edelman: Yes, yes. Would you like some popcorn or a sandwich perhaps?
Berg: No thank you.
Edelman: Suit yourself
(Edelman has a giant popcorn bag an begins to dig into it as the movies starts. The movie is about Sobibor a Nazi death camp in Poland that saw an escape orchestrated by the prisonsers, led by some Soviet soldiers. It is a very sad movie showing many gassed and burned. Families ripped apart. All for being Jewish. The movie ends and Edelman looks at Berg)
Edelman: You see young David, our people went through a lot and persevered. I know you feel down but look at our ancestors. Most lost their entire families and had to rebuild. They weren’t trained soldiers, they were ordinary citizens who had to fight to survive. This is why Israel is so vigilant. This is why our leaders are angry with you. They forget that you are just a young man and it takes a while to understand the nuances of business, sports and politics. Look at me, I did not build my wealth overnight. So please take your time and get acclimated and then look to our ancestors. They will guide you.
Berg: Thank you for all your kindness, Mr. Edelman.
(Berg exits the suite and heads to his room. He certainly feels inspired. The scene shifts to Berg at Casino gym working out. The gym is extensive and not overly crowded. An attractive middle aged lady approaches Berg. She is wearing the Casino colors with a black name tag with gold lettering reading “Emma”. She has light blonde hair, deep blue eyes and nice build)
Emma: Good evening Mr. Berg
Berg: Hello. You may call me David.
Emma: So forward are we? Mr. Edelman told me to look out for you. I am Emma Stone, I am the fitness coordinator for the Nugget.
Berg: It is nice to meet you.
(Berg stands up and towers over the approximate 5’5 lady)
Emma: You seem to know your way around the gym so I won’t keep you. We as you know also have a pool outside and tanning beds along with a sauna inside. Holler if you need me.
Berg: Thank you, will do.
(Berg proceeds to go through a rigorous workout to the point of exhaustion. Emma walks over and hands him a purple Gatorade).
Berg: Thank you
Emma: So where are you taking me?
Berg: Taking you?
Emma: I am in a mood for a steak. The steak house in the Casino is excellent.
Berg: You want to have a steak dinner with me?
Emma: Of course. You eat for free do you not?
Berg: Mr. Edelman said as such.
Emma: Who am I to pass on a free meal with a handsome celebrity? Meet me at the restaurant at 9PM
Berg: OK…
Emma: Don’t look so thrilled.
Berg: I am looking forward to it
Emma: Me too!
(The scene shifts as Berg is sitting across from Emma at the dinner table. They just pounded 24 oysters and salads and are waiting for their main courses)
Emma: How old do you think I am David?
Berg: I don’t know?
Emma: Take a wild guess, I won’t be offended.
Berg: 28?
Emma: You are so kind. I am 33.
Berg: Oh
Emma: The desert sand and sun may cause wrinkles as you get older but it keeps me young. Don’t you think?
Berg (abashed): Indeed
Emma: You seem awfully shy. Are you shy David?
Berg: Actually no but I am respectful.
Emma: And where has that gotten you?
Berg: Huh?
Emma: You’re sitting at dinner with a woman you just met, in a strange city and country, you live in a hotel room, you don’t have any friends or family that support you and you are on a three match losing streak is it?
Berg: Woooow….That is a lot…and true.
Emma: Of course it is true. But now is the time to change it.
Berg: Change it? You want me to change it? Change what exactly?
Emma: Speak with confidence, even arrogance. You are a very handsome man, you are tall, athletic and I really like how you look in those tights.
Berg: Thank you. Those are kind words but I am also a rookie. What sort of rookie comes out and talks a bunch of garbage? Humility is important.
Emma: Humility is for losers. You need to be yourself. Loss, win, irrelevant. Your next promo should be one of confidence and borderline arrogance.
Berg: Who do you think I am?
Emma: I thought you were the King of the Streets
(Berg and Emma share a smile and a wry laugh as their food arrives and the screen fades to black)
