(The camera opens up inside of the WFA Arena in Mesa, Arizona. The home base of Cage and Ron Masterson, fans are filing out after another episode of the promotion’s Wednesday night show, and Cage is standing ringside, unwrapping his hands of tape after a hard fought match. Ron Masterson sits across from him, having come out to say bye to some of the fans, both men looking tired and as the last fan files out, Masterson turns to Cage.)
MASTERSON: So? What’s the next plan?
CAGE: Getting you ready for Rain Blackheart, that’s what.
MASTERSON: Listen, I get that, but what about you?
CAGE: Right now, we’ve got things on our plate.
(Suddenly, the gruff looking visage of Donnie D. Falco comes stepping in, alongside him is Ron’s girlfriend Alison.)
DONNIE: Oh, so now it’s “our” plate, huh? (Cage turns to see him and shakes his head) What? What’s the shake of the head for? Let’s see - last I saw you got a win and Ron got a loss. So how does it compute to you, Cage?
CAGE: It means we get him ready to come back strong against Rain.
DONNIE: You know what, I’ve been trying to tell him that, but the kid is too stubborn. (turns to Ron) You’ve been more preoccupied with his retirement than your career.
MASTERSON: He’s only got a few weeks left and he’s got people coming out of the woodwork to take him down, Donnie.
DONNIE: (turns back to cage) Listen. You’ve trained Ron, you’ve called him your friend, and yet he’s sliding.
MASTERSON: I’m not…
DONNIE: YOU. ARE. SLIDING.
CAGE: Okay, that’s enough.
DONNIE: Enough? NO. Enough is what’s going on with you and Daniel Dare. How long has he been plaguing you? 18 or 19 years? About as long as you’ve been in the business? First it was TCE. He came here and took a shot at everyone and then nearly killed you. Hell, he should have killed you and yet you survived.
CAGE: Listen…
DONNIE: No. You listen. (Points to Ron) AND you. Cage, you’ve got three weeks or so left to go, and you ride off into the sunset. But what about Ron? What if Chip Riggle stays? Or that Cade Byron who you’re going up against? Or whoever else Dare brings in here? Ron will be here alone and you’ll be off in retirement.
MASTERSON: And so what?
DONNIE: What?
MASTERSON: So what, Donnie? Cage has done this for years, he deserves a sendoff he deserves. And me? Listen, I’ve had a bad streak, it happens. You went six months without a win once in your career, right?
DONNIE: That’s not…
MASTERSON: Listen, I lost to Joe Nobody and he pinned me with my own move. Sure, that might be embarrassing but Rain Blackheart is gonna have to deal with me ready to go. You comin’ in here and yelling at us isn’t gonna change the fact we know have matches. I know I need to train for Rain, Cage knows he’s got to train for Cade.
CAGE: It’s not about trying to drag Ron down, Donnie. It’s not about leaving a mess for him to clean up. I will go through all three of the Dares of Dare. I will climb into the ring against Cade and beat him. I’ll stand and cheer for Ron, and that will never change.
MASTERSON: And Donnie, whatever you’re feeling with Cage, what’s going on doesn’t bug me. It’s about doing the right thing. I want him to enjoy this last run, I want to see him get the win, and I want him to enjoy retirement.
CAGE: And Cade Byron and Rain Blackheart only have one thing to do when it comes to preparing for us next week.
DONNIE: And what’s that?
MASTERSON: (smiling at Cage) Preparing to get Thunderstruck!
(Fade to black.)
