This came up in the Prestige 3 thread. You know the ones - moves that go by a gimmicked name specifically for the character using it. What's the best way to respect the name while making sure readers understand what is happening? Steve mentioned move explanations in brackets, but that seems like it would break the flow.

I usually describe the base move in the text and then have a commentator shout out the name

I brought it up because where I've been before, they always used the "Made up name (real move name)" format
I do agree this can break up the flow a bit.
I have seen Kira's way done too, and I've done it myself in the past just to vary things a bit.
For Storm/MGK, I'm going T-Bone's route, with the move described in the narration but the commentators using the "given name" for it

Now of course, doing it with commentary forces you to break the action, meaning it would be difficult to chain a bunch of 'named' moves at once without it being ass.

OK, so I think the best tactic to avoid any confusion is to not use any move names at all.
I'm now going back over MGK/Storm to remove all references to moves. Here's an excerpt:
OK I think i got carried away a bit there... but shit, that actually makes things more exciting trying to imagine what the hell they're doing to each other

Name Storm the winner and I think we'll be all set.

I think we can all agree that if your finisher is hard to describe, only the name will be used and people can application hunt the specifics if they care but they won't. We knock it sometimes, but there are plus points to giving all your employees the spear as a finisher.

I usually describe the base move in the text and then have a commentator shout out the name This is the method I usually would use when writing matches. The commentator says the name of the move while the descriptive text usually tells what it really is. For example, one or my moves is a figure 4 called "Aces Wild" so the text would say Jack Diamond locks in a figure four, etc... while the commentator yells "ACES WILD" or something like that.
