(Looking very much recovered, Pixi sits in the lotus position on her couch. Her eyes are closed. Smoke drifts lazily up from the incense sticks to either side. She appears to be wearing only a large, blue “Save the Whales” tee shirt. Her eyes open.)
Pixi: Hello UPW world. I’m sure that you’ll be delighted to know that I am very much on the mend and shall, most assuredly be ready for my re-match
(She pauses and takes a slow, deep breath: in through the nose, out through the mouth.)
Pixi: Now, given all that Mr Berg had to say, I think it’s only right that I address his narrow-minded and offensive viewpoint. I guess though, that if, like him, you are product of generational indoctrination, it’s hard – really, really hard, to think for yourself. Yet, so ingrained and dogmatic is his thinking that he doesn’t even want to. No, it’s far easier to spew invective and denigrate that which he fears – liberalism.
Make no mistake, Mr Berg is a very fearful man.
He fears the fate of his beloved nation.
He fears that his narrow world view may be eroded by those of superior intellect.
He fears that were he to actually LOGICALLY argue his viewpoints rather than resorting to threats and violence, the inadequacies of his position would be cruelly exposed.
Yes, Mr Berg has a LOT to fear. And chief amongst those fears ought to be ME.
(Pixi smiles gently and sweeps back her lime-green hair.)
I like trees. I do. I like the diversity of life on this planet. I don’t want to see it perish at the hands of man: oceans polluted with plastic, global warming sinking atolls and precipitating hitherto unprecedented weather events. I want to see a fairer, more egalitarian world. One person’s second isn’t any longer or shorter dependent on their job, their race or where they live.
That’s what I want.
But what do I get?
I get people like Mr Berg; absorbed by petty internecine conflicts. Now, don’t misunderstand me: I’m not anti-Semitic. I have nothing against Israel, but then again, I’ve nothing against Palestine either. BOTH are polluters of equal measure. So, if Mr Berg AGAIN wishes to take the dogmatic, narrow-minded view that “If you’re not with us, you’re against us.” Then yes, I’m against you – as much as I’m against ALL OTHER polluters and self-serving corporations and entities. The world is replete with them, so don’t think you are special.
As you can see, MY struggle is far, FAR larger than is Mr Berg’s. My backing is less obvious: it’s there, as there are others who feel as I do, but there’s no super rich nations backing my cause – except perhaps in word only. So, I fight for what I believe in. I highlight my cause through my martial skills. And they are GOOD.
Now I get that not everyone is prepared to forsake their beloved steaks, their traditional diets, their creature comforts, but every small bit helps and there will come a time when that choice is taken away.
Mr Berg also accused me of being Leftist.
(She shrugs)
Pixi: I guess it’s true. I am NOT in favour of gun ownership. Remove the guns – no one gets shot. It seems pretty simple. But then, I’M not FEARFUL. I don’t need a gun.
What else?
Well, I’m all for supporting the less well-off, including a much fairer health care system. I’d like to see higher taxes to promote rail travel and take us away from our dangerous obsession with the car. I’d increase carbon duty on air travel. I’d invest MASSIVELY in green energy. I’d stop sending our troops abroad to die. If all those things make me a leftist, then I’m PROUD to be called one.
All that though, that’s jut background noise really. Yes, it’s who I am, but does it really matter which side of the political spectrum you’re on when in the ring? For many of the fans, it doesn’t. That’s why I rarely preach. I did so here in answer to Mr Berg’s incessant, one-sided and distorted world view.
(Again Pixi pauses and smiles.)
So where does that leave us?
It leaves me still unflappably confident in my ability to win. I’ve reviewed the tape and quite honestly I approached the fight with poor tactics. That’s okay. Through our mistakes, we learn.
I CAN beat you Mr Berg. For all your training, experience and backing, I – little Pixi – CAN beat you. We’ll meet again soon – real soon – and when we do I promise to unleash the Wardancer in me and do what I do best: win. You seem to have forgotten that THIS is my home town. No one encapsulates Sin City better than me. I was the one that added an extra competitor to my first title defence. I did so to make a point. It seems that conversely – you just got lucky. Good thing then that you’re being protected in a NON-title match. Impressive. That’s really useful for hiding all that fear. Whereas me, all I need to fear is right-wing assholes like You actually getting into power to fuck things up even more than they have already. If that’s even possible.
However, this next match will be tough. Diaz wants his belt back as much as I want mine. I get that. Diaz isn’t likeable and he cares even less about that, but honestly, neither is CJ Walker. The man has a great talent for shifting with the current, but no one sides with him, because no one trusts him. He constantly presents as 2 faced and deceitful. At least with Diaz and Berg, I know what I’m dealing with – honest assholes.
Nobody? He did well enough, but now for him, it’s time to recoup, take stock and target something new. He’s NOT winning this one. Neither is Adam. I think Adam is decent enough underneath all that Black Hand bullshit. He deserves a shot, but he’s NOT getting it this time.
So I apologise fellas. I’m sorry: sorry that I’ve taken your big chance away. Still, IF you have resolve and determination, you can come back – stronger and better. OR, you can – and this is WAY easier – throw your teddy in the corner and storm off. Whatever works for you, but I won’t be sulking and running away. I’ll be right here; doing my best to BE the best – to shine as an individual and to help Team Sp!ke reclaim the Tag belts – for the THIRD time! That’s what we Pixies do!
Till next time.
(She waves to the viewers)
Take care: of YOU, OTHERS and the PLANET. Go Green.
