We open up in the Philadelphia International Airport where El Combatiente and Javier sit in the baggage claim waiting for their luggage after their flight back from Japan. The area is buzzing with people excited to arrive in Philadelphia and see their friends, family, or whatever. We zoom in on our duo and try to block out the noise.
El Combatiente: Creo que cometí un error.
(I think I made a mistake.)
Javier: You didn’t make a mistake.
(Are you sure? Every apartment we looked at there was a fire shortly after we left. It is a bad omen.)
Javier: Small fires, but yeah, I talked to Dylan about that. He said that’s probably just Darlene. He said fire is her love language.
(Why would she love me already, and that is terrifying?)
Javier: It just means she wants to be your friend. Let’s not worry about Japan and J-Rok right now. You’ve got an important match this week in Fireside, you know, why we’re here in the airport.
(Yes. This will be a battle for the ages. I am looking forward to this. I have so much respect for Mistress and Evan will be there too.)
Javier: Not a fan of Evan huh?
(I’m sure he’s a nice enough person, but he does not respect the sport that I dedicate my life to. Sure he has had some major accomplishments in this business, even greater than mine maybe, but he treats it like his inheritance. He doesn’t get to be at the top of the card because of who his dad is. He doesn’t get to be called the best without putting in the hard work. Yet he thinks both of those things are true. I am also a legacy in this business, but I’ve never demanded a spot because of who I am. It’s hard to have any respect for a man like that after all I’ve done.)
Javier: If it helps I don’t think he’s a nice enough guy. He’s the kinda guy I’d like to work for. That means you would hate him. Have you seen the way he treats his stablemates who aren’t El Rey?
El Combatiente faux spots at the mention of the X*Crown Champions name.
(Another reason not to respect the young man. Anyone who willingly spends time with that jerk cannot be a person I respect. Do you think he has plans with El Rey to steal my mask again? Do you think he still thinks I am his father? It doesn’t matter. I cannot worry about him being there. I must focus on Evan and Discipline.)
Javier: You’re right, you cannot think about El Rey. They’re both quality contenders alone in singles competition, but this is an important match. If you win this match, and President Kanyon wins his match, the two of you get to decide who you face next. I know on paper they should be the tougher team, and I know you don’t want to have to face your friend, but the lack of experience and hatred of each other makes Dylan and Evan the team to face.
(What you’re saying makes sense, but at the same time with Evan comes New Money and their cheating ways. Sure, I think I can trust Dylan, but I can’t trust Evan and his group for a fair fight. With Top of the Class I know we’ll get a fair fight.)
Javier: Sure, but honestly what we really need to focus on is getting you the win. It’s been awhile now since you’ve competed in singles. This is a good opportunity to not only put yourself and the President in the best spot, but a chance to prepare for what’s to come in J-Rok. If we can ever get our luggage it’s time to train. We’ve had some big moments in our time together, but if we’re going to get back to the top this is a big launching point.
El Combatiente: Ha llegado el momento.
(The time is now.)
Javier: You’re right, the time is now. We’re going to make a move to the top, and now is our time to make a move.
(No, I meant the time is now to get our luggage.)
El Combatiente points off camera and get up to head for his luggage. Javier watches after him.
Javier: Oh.
Javier stands up and follows and we fade to black.
