Fade in, Rob Arnold and Trixie Mars are sat in a classroom, both are sat on the desk, with “UP WRESTLING 101” written on the chalk board behind them. Arnold hops off the desk and begins to pace.
“Welcome to UP Wrestling 101, today’s topic is the current state of affairs in UP Wrestling. This is a discussion lesson, so no need to open your books. Who would like to begin?”
The camera pans around…there is no class. The camera pans back to Arnold who has a telling smirk on his face.
“Tell you what, I’ll begin, shall I? You know what I don’t get? Blow Your Mind was great, I stood in the back watching every other match that Trixie wasn’t involved in, I watched every bit of talent that UP Wrestling had to show for, and I was really impressed on the whole. Sure, some questionable acts here and there but Rob Arnold’s no stranger to questionable decisions. Bottom line? I started to really get the measure of the roster here, I started to appreciate what Trixie is up against. My opinion hasn’t wavered, I think she is the next big star here, I think her potential is limitless and she’s realised that week in week out so far.”
He shrugs.
“However, I’m not sure my opinion matches that of Madame Wu. It seems that she would rather keep the opportunities closed to her friends.” He feigns embarrassment, putting a hand to his mouth like he shouldn’t have said that. “Sorry, she doesn’t have friends, just a so called army headed up by a poor man’s Rob Arnold. Honestly, I was pulling Walker’s shit when I was eighteen years old, he should know better! I digress, the point is that here we are, two weeks after a great Pay Per View, after some great contests, and Wu wants to give the losers another chance? What about the winners? What about Trixie? She keeps winning and yet she’s ignored!”
He sighs and shakes his head.
“I’m a patient man, hell, I told Trixie she needs to earn her lumps before she gets a chance…and yet Isabella Von Krauss has a shot at the Boyd Roller! The last time I checked Trixie decked her just last month! You start throwing these facts out and it’s not surprising that I’ve changed my tone. So tell me Wu, what’s the problem? Do you not see the talent Trixie Mars has? Have I misjudged my ability to scout talent? Or is there something else going on? Could it be that Walker is your guy and you want to protect him? Is it that your face has got to fit? Or maybe you’re intimidated by another woman possibly being more successful than yourself?” He winks. “What is holding Trixie Mars back, other than your lack of willing to let her climb the UP Wrestling ladder?”
Again, another smirk. Arnold’s clearly enjoying himself. He puts a hand up as if there could be an answer to his question.
“Don’t worry, it’s all rhetorical. I get cantankerous when I’m upset. Nevertheless, the door to the title shot room remains locked to Trixie, so here we go again with another prove yourself type match. This time? Ron Masterson.” Arnold turns his head towards mars, who has been watching and listening to Rob all this time, a grin all over her face as he’s been pulling out shot after shot. “Trixie, I’ve been discussing a hell of a lot, would you like to add anything to the class?”
Mars hops off the desk, Rob hops back on.
“Thanks boss, I would love to add to the discussion! Boy, Ron, you think a lotta’ yourself, don’tcha? It’s funny because what the boss just said about getting opportunities, seems like you completely agree. However you lose all sorts of legitimacy when you start calling yourself God’s gift to wrestling, I bet you were looking down the lens of that camera and secretly checking yourself out…don’t be afraid to admit it, we’re all friends here!” She giggles. “Oh Ron, I bet you fool so many people with your act. You’re the good guy that will be the saviour of UP Wrestling, lil’ old Trixie is just at the end of another lesson. But I don’t need a lesson, Ron. Not from you anyway. Why do you think I came to The Academy? Why do you think I took Rob Arnold’s offer up? To learn from a man who has done it all.”
She gives Arnold an affirmative nod, and then faces the camera once more.
“Free For All, Ron Masterson, you’re right, class will be in session. Not a high school master class from a guy who thinks he can, but from me, Trixie Mars, who’s being tutored at a university level by a two time former X*Crown Champion. You’re going to learn something very important when I beat you Ron…the teacher who thinks he knows it all will soon find himself a student once again.”
With that, Trixie walks off camera. Arnold watches her with a tinge of confusion and hops back off the desk.
“Hey…don’t you normally make a comment about making a mess?”
“Yeah but the teacher quip felt cooler.” Is Trixie’s immediate and blunt reply. Arnold considers this for a moment, and nods slowly.
“Yeah…fair point.” Arnold shrugs and chuckles to himself, following her off, a school bell rings, and we fade out.
