- Sir Arthur Torchwood is backstage with David Vector, just arrived for his debut on Wrestle: UK. Sir Arthur is full of energy because he will be co-commentating on the show later tonight. Sir Arthur addresses Vector and Vector greets him with a handshake and respectful nod. –
- Torchwood – Ladies and Gentlemen it’s with great delight that and professional glee that I introduce to a Wrestle: UK audience for the first time, the wrestling stylings of David Vector “The Rook…” -
- Vector – I’m sorry to rain on your parade but I done changed my wrestling name Sir Arthur. Shoulda got word to ya before we jumped right in here. -
- Torchwood – No matter. I should have asked you just in case. I think there will be plenty of teething troubles as we get used to our new surroundings and roster. What are you calling yourself now? –
- Vector – “The Wolverine”. –
- Torchwood – Fascinating… Why choose a Wolverine over a wolf or a lion… or badger or hedgehog? -
-Vector - It is a muscular predator and a solitary animal. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the ability to bring down prey many times larger than itself. -
- Torchwood – Ah, Solitary you say? I take it you’ll not be trying to join with Psychotic Goth and let bygones be bygones so to speak? –
- Vector- In a word… No.
The world looked on me as Goth’s understudy ‘cos he’s the Ex-World Champ and I’m the rookie. By name and by actual fact. They said he was my mentor, and I was his student. Well, that was never how we worked and turns out even if that was true, his final lessons never gave me anything to look up to now did they. Certain sure the guy has nothing to teach me about loyalty. I was the calm head; I was the counterweight to his psychosis to give our team championship winning balance. I played my part and, in the end,… he chose not to play his.
I am sure I could descend into a fake rage to fuel the hype train, but Goth did teach me a few things. Like being my own man, speaking with my actions in the ring rather than dwelling on the mic. and not giving away too much ahead of a big match up. Goth is a legend, but his light is fading, I have time, talent, and a bucket load of fans on myside. So, I don’t need to rant. You’ll see how much this stuff means to me presently.
It’s a new me and a new Fed and a new God darned climate. If you’ll pardon my proverbial… it’s colder than a well-diggers butt in this country. I thought spring had sprung. –
- Torchwood – Well Spring has sprung… sprung a leak. April showers is what we expect at this time of year and sadly what we usually receive.
So, new name, new you… but from what I saw from across the pond, you were a traditional grappler and technical wrestler… Will your Wolverine Monica mean you’ll be more… wild? –
- Vector - No. I’m still a ‘rassler and I’m still here learning my craft and a wild and brutal mentality doesn’t play to my strengths. I think the UK crowd will warm to my style because by heroes are people like Regal, Daniels, Bret Hart and that’s the excellence and way of winning my matches I am aiming for. David Vector “The Rookie” is a name you can look down on… but ex-world tag team champion David Vector The Wolverine can be taken seriously. I looked up to wrestlers like The Mountie, The Berserker, Papa Shango and Skinner that had what people today would call a gimmick but having a cool name and letting that drive you to stardom isn’t anything to be ashamed of or avoid. –
- Torchwood – Well we already have a Good Guy, who’s probably not all that nice and a Psychotic Goth who probably isn’t an ancient era warrior with an axe, so who would bat an eyelid at a Wolverine I suppose… -
- Vector – I can’t speak for those guys, but I think you should mock them about their names when you interview them, I am sure they’ll be real responsive to that kinda banter. Especially Goth… He’s gonna love that. He does have an axe by the way. Just saying.
Well, I gotta get ready for my bout later. Its certain sure is a pleasure to meet a Lord and wrestle in England for the first time. –
- Torchwood – I’m not actually a peer of the realm, just a knight, but… -
-Vector – Well maybe if you apply yourself and rub shoulders with the right person… I mean I don’t know how it works but I’d vote for you buddy. –
- Sir Arthur can’t work out whether he’s being mocked or whether Vector genuinely doesn’t know how titles and national awards really work. Sir Arthur feels that now isn’t the time to get into the details and just moves the interview to a natural conclusion. -
- Torchwood – That’s very nice to know I have your confidence, but is there anything else you’d like to share with your new fan base and your fans of old coming across with you? –
- Vector – I feel I need to restate my pledge to the people that show faith and spend their hard-earned dollars, and I guess pounds and pence too, to watch and support yours truly…
I promise to you, tonight and always…
To show courage, fight with pride and give the fans what they paid for. And I am a man of my word.
Wrestle: UK? I am ready for the rebirth of this roster, are you? I guess we’ll see. –
- Torchwood – Wonderfully said sir. I think this young man has a fine future here and I look forward to commentating on this man’s first strides into this next chapter in his wrestling career. Thank you for your time, David Vector. -
- Vector gives Sir Arthur a hearty handshake and you can see Sir Arthur wince under the tightness of the grip. Vector releases the grip immediately and offers an apologetic glance and reassurance that he hadn’t meant to hurt the commentator. Vector leaves the scene all smiles, happy to be in Wrestle: UK and looking forward to his time there. -
