At the Penultimate Pro Wrestling League in Las Vegas, Nevada is where we find their World champion, “Iron Bear” Joe Ghaven getting ready to defend his title. In a break from the norm, Joe Ghaven headed down to the ring first with his manager, Ethan Mills, prancing around him like a proud little con artist. Joe gave the title belt to the ref to present to the audience before the challenger is announced. “Hard Edge” Maxwell Drake heads down to the ring without any fanfare or music. He’s here for one thing and one thing only.
The PPWL World title.
Maxwell steps into the ring and glares across it to Joe Ghaven with a smile. There’s mutual respect there as the gladiators ready to do combat.
However, there’s a Tarzan yell as “Guttertrash” Greg Adkins swings into view from the cheap seats. Maxwell Drake looks like a deer caught in the headlights as Greg swings into him with both feet planted into Maxwell’s chest. The blow sends Maxwell flying over the ropes and through a table that had been planted there for some weird reason. Greg swings back and lands in the ring with a smile and a bow to Joe Ghaven.
Greg Adkins: I am your real opponent tonight, Joe. I will defeat you for that World title!
Joe Ghaven: Do you have a contract to wrestle here?
Greg Adkins: Well, no.
Joe Ghaven: Then, this match is non-title until you do get one.
Greg just shrugs with a smile as he eases into a fighting stance. A sloppy one at that.
Greg Adkins: That’ll do. You are my practice dummy for when I get to face Jesse Jamester at the Rumble and Redmond Fury at GUNS.
Joe Ghaven: You think of me as a practice dummy…
Joe stares at Greg for a long time before he chuckles.
Joe Ghaven: Your funeral.
As the bell sounds to start the match, Joe Ghaven lumbers forward, taking Greg Adkins down with an authoritative shoulder charge. Joe goes to stomp on Greg, missing as Greg rolls to his feet. Greg hits some lefts and rights to the midsection that Joe pays no notice to. Joe seizes Greg by the biceps and lifts him into the air. He vigorously shakes Greg back and forth…like he were murdering a baby.
Joe Ghaven: You cannot compete with me.
Greg Adkins: I can.
Joe Ghaven holds Greg perfectly still in the air.
Joe Ghaven: Prove it.
Greg brings his foot back as far as he can and kicks Joe square in the balls. This causes Joe’s eyes to go wide as he drops Greg back onto his feet. Joe starts to double over in pain and Greg goes for the big time. Yes, he tries to bodyslam Joe Ghaven.
Naturally, he doesn’t get the man off of his feet. He strains and strains, eventually backing away from Joe while clutching at his back. Joe just shakes his head and brings an elbow down to the back of Greg’s neck to flatten him to the mat.
Joe picks up Greg like he were going for a bodyslam, but bodily tosses Greg across the ring. Greg gets back up. He licks his lips and watches Joe just smile with confidence.
Greg Adkins: I’m going to wipe that smile off of your face!
Joe Ghaven: Come and try.
Greg takes off at full speed, he uses Joe’s leg as a springboard to go straight up into the air. Joe looks up and sees Greg’s face come at him full speed as Greg delivers the mother of all headbutts directly to Joe’s nose. There’s an explosion of blood. Greg falls down to the mat, where he grasps at his head and curls into a ball. Joe takes a few steps backwards, blood pouring from his nose. He falls backwards like a felled tree, making the ref and Greg bounce into the air upon his impact with the mat.
Greg stands up and staggers, nearly falling back to the mat except for the saving grace of the top rope that he catches. He walks over to Joe and drops down for the cover while Ethan Mills screams for Joe to get up. The ref gets into position and begins to count.
One…Two…Three! Ethan screams to the ref.
Ethan Mills: Joe’s foot is on the bottom rope. Come on, ref!
The referee sees the foot on the ropes and nods, telling Greg that there was only a two count.
Greg Adkins gets up with a hop, swooning backwards a few steps, and falling onto his butt. Joe Ghaven slowly gets to his feet and notes that his face and chest are covered with blood. Outside of the ring, Ethan Mills hops up and down while pounding on the ring apron like an oversugared child.
Ethan Mills: Get him! Crush him!
Joe walks over to the downed Greg and lifts him up into the air by the throat with one hand for a choke. Greg fights to break Joe’s iron grip, but fails miserably. The ref shouts for Joe to release Greg, but he is ignored. Greg brightens up and slips a hand into his trunks where it’s obvious that he’s pleasuring himself to being choked. Joe’s jaw drops in shock and he drops Greg to his feet on the mat. Greg drops into a crouch, bringing his hand out of his pants, leaps into the air, and applies a mandible claw with that hand!
The move only lasts a few seconds before Joe hurls Greg across the ring in order to break the hold. Joe goes to the ropes and begins to spit over the top rope. Greg gets up, uses the ropes to enhance his momentum as he runs across the ring and drop kicks Joe in the back of the knees to bring him down to the mat!
Joe is quick to get to his knees on the way to getting up when Greg grabs him from behind with a double fish hook move. He then proceeds to hawk a loogie into Joe’s forced open mouth and releases the hold. Joe drops to all fours where he begins to retch onto the mat, not quite vomiting, but he spits several times. Greg goes to the top rope, leaps into the air as Joe is starting to stand, and brings him down with a bulldog! Ethan is slapping the mat and screaming.
Ethan Mills: What the fuck? What the fuck?
Greg rolls Joe over for the pinfall.

Thr- Ethan pulls Greg Adkins from the ring! The ref signals for the bell to be sounded to disqualify Joe Ghaven. Greg looks at Ethan, who suddenly recognizes that he’s in danger and begins begging Greg off.
Greg hits a pump handle reverse piledriver (his finisher called the Overdose) on Ethan and leaves him on the concrete floor as he raises his hands in victory to the cheering fans.
Greg Adkins: I will be the Phoenix champion! Thank you!
