Staring at the Star Ocean above him, that´s what he was doing in that simple moment in that tranquil Sicilian evening. The chaise longue, placed on the terrace of that country villa, was comfortable enough for him to lie down and gaze above, towards the unending night sky.
The calm music sounds, coming from the small radio next to him, completed the placidity of the moment. He felt at ease. Serene like never before, in these last months and complete as he always felt when he was active and fighting. Some people would say that was impossible, how can a man be calm after such adrenaline-filled moments like the ones during and after a fight of the caliber he was having just after his return to the world of wrestling?
Well, these people forgot that a man has a raison d´etre, at least Eron had. And when a man fulfills his reason for being, he is at ease. Eron was a fighter, through and through, and it was only during these moments that he felt complete. The whole months of recuperating after his injury, and the fighting with himself about the doubts of retirement he had in his head during that injury, these moments were the difficult ones.
He leaned back and placed his forearms behind his head. Biting a toothpick, he stared again towards the night sky, the stars adorning that sky shined like they seldom did. It was as if they were sending a message; that being that a man must be what a man desires to be most. Follow your heart and your dreams and your existence will be a blessed one.
Eron smiled.
He was all he could ever want to be, that being a wrestler and a fighter. Not only was he a fighter as a profession. He also was a fighter as a nature. He had a fighting spirit and a burning heart and those things helped him overcome all the problems which surfaced in front of him, time after time. He had succumbed to injuries before and had come up stronger after each downfall. That is what a fighter nature is made of. That is what helps a man during troublesome times.
Eron shook his head. He slowly whistled a peaceful melody, following the music that the radio next to him transmitted. It was a serene moment in itself, one of these moments in which a man feels he can overcome every trouble in front of him and come up even stronger than before.
And that was everything he needed.
The scene opens up somewhere, in the middle of the night. Eron Hunter is sitting on a comfy chair staring at the camera with a composed look on his face. He crosses his arms on his chest and begins speaking in his usual untroubled tone.
“Well, it is what you wanted and you got it, Sinclair Godfrey”
He shakes his head, resuming his speech
“I guess you are used to getting what you want, in the end, now aren’t you? Baroness Godfrey? Guess being born with every advantage in the world does help with evolving into a spoiled tomboy who is used to having everything delivered at her feet. A tomboy who goes as far as to even defy her family to get what she wants”
Eron shakes his head again, looking deep in thoughts, resuming his speech after some silent instants
“But who am I to criticize you, for rejecting everything you had to follow your dreams? I, myself, left my aristocratic family behind, at the tender age of sixteen, to follow my dream. That dream was to become the best fighter possible.
We are similar in that, Baroness Godfrey!
..But our similarities start and end there.
Why is that so, you say? That is so because of the things we chose to believe in. You chose to follow chaos and darkness, those feelings dwelling deep in your heart, I chose to believe in everything good and sublime that exists in human nature. Every criminologist and forensic psychologist in the world will tell you that humans are dark and evil.
I, on the other hand, believe that most of the humans in this world have something good in their hearts, most of them at least. And it is that belief that enlightens the path in front of me. Some people say goodness has a limit, while evilness does not. Thus it is the dark path that gives more might to its followers.
I tend to disagree.
While we hear and see chaos every day and get used to them, forget them and look to the next causality, it is true goodness that imprints itself in most human hearts. It is the goodness of a mother making sublime sacrifices for her children. The goodness of heroes sacrificing everything they got, to achieve their dreams, thus making the world a better place.
You feel sickened when you hear people like me talking about the fans?
That´s because you are surrounded by thugs and gang members but still feel alone.
Me? I keep my distance from most people, but I never forget my dreams and the goodness I’ve met in this world, that´s why I never am truly alone.
We both have made mistakes in this life, that’s what many people think about us anyway, but these mistakes came forth because we followed a dream.
Errare humanum est
To err is human, in the end.
It is what we have learned from these mistakes and where we lean on in our life that makes the difference between us.
Whose resolution is stronger, that’s what we´ll see in that ring, Baroness Godfrey.”
Eron shakes his head. A slight smile can be seen on his face as the scene fades into the night.
