This episode of Shady Side of the Ring has been interrupted by a special announcement from GUNS. Static hits and we cut from Destruction vs Alcoholism to the smiling face of one half of the GUNS Tag Team Champions Venom.
People say this tag match has no hype. They say there’s no build. They say it’s just another meaningless match thrown on Night of Champions because there’s a title on the line. All of those people would be wrong. Dead wrong.
Venom pauses and shakes his head.
You see, this match has build. Four years of build to be exact.
Venom holds up four fingers and continues speaking.
Let me take you back now. Four years ago, the early days of the new XHF, the Network. The XHF Tag Team Championships were brought back and made global like the X*Crown that was brought before it. The Young Guns were the last ever tag team champions so Mueller and I were once again on top of the mountain.
The famous cocky grin once again graces us as he remembers riding high again.
Of course, that was nothing new. As you all saw in season 2 of the Gun Show ever since the three of us teamed up we were on top of the world. We were touring around defending our titles and a young up and coming team stepped up to the plate for Night of Champions, the New Age Killers.
Venom nods his head.
Yes, the very same ones we face at NoC. That night we were successful. We defended our titles and moved on to hold them for much longer. Since that day, though, the New Age Killers have been on a roll. James Raymond found grand success in the singles world most notably in AXW. Jason Long, Maverick, won just about every championship you could imagine since then. On top of that they found success at the top of the tag division as well.
Now we meet again.
Things have changed, but have they really changed that much? I know what the dirt sheets are saying. They’re saying we’re old and washed up. They’re saying we haven’t had real matches in so long that NAK will wipe the mat with us. What they all seem to forget is that we’re the best damn tag team that ever lived. Hell, I might be the best damn tag wrestler that ever lived.
Venom slaps his own chest in emphasis.
Talk won’t change anyone’s mind, though. I’ll have to prove it, and Mueller and I will do just that on the grandest stage of them all, Night of Champions.
With that we get static again and we rejoin our regularly scheduled program in progress.
