There is a beautiful cerulean sky in the background, with Eron Hunter standing In front of the camera. He´s wearing a black muscle t-shirt and a pair of black trousers, black elegant shoes to match with the blouse and the trousers; his hands deep in the trouser pockets.
“ And the sky is always blue…
Someone loses his job
Someone gets a promotion
Someone marries the love of his life
Someone gets a divorce
Someone wins the lottery
Someone hasn´t got enough cents for a loaf of bread.
And the sun comes up and goes down again anyway, just like every other day. Just like nothing ever happened, just like when your misery or luck doesn´t influence the weather. And the sky is always blue. Just like it doesn’t matter if you win or lose a match; life goes on anyway.”
Eron looks straight at the camera, a fugitive smile on his face and his hands still deep in his trouser pockets.
“Some things do not influence the universe; it goes on as it has done for milliards of years. If I win a match or not. If I become a main-eventer in Wrestle: UK, or maybe never and if I retain my commonwealth or lose it to Ronnie Long, the sun will come up just like it does every other day.
But that doesn´t mean I don’t have to try and achieve what I want to achieve in my small, miserable, existence.
It is true; the sun will come up and go down just like any other day, and the universe will continue to expand to infinite, and whether I am a winner or a loser that doesn´t change the grand scheme of things, at least apparently. But that doesn´t mean I should stop winning and increase my win-loss record with another victory.
Maybe I win and maybe I lose, the earth won’t stop spinning but that doesn´t mean my existence doesn´t influence anything. I believe that we are part of a whole and that our doings are part of an ecosystem. We shape up the world we live in with our, even so, small actions, and the whole reacts to the small bits of doings that every human being does in his life.
So the sky is always blue…
…But it becomes smoggier if we always use our diesel cars and refuse to ride a bicycle once in a blue moon. Thus our minuscule handlings influence the universe. That´s what I think and what I believe in. That´s what influences my motivation.”
Eron shakes his head, looking at the grass below his feet, and after some instants of silence resumes his speech.
“That and something else, something I’ve always said and I´ve always believed in. That belief is that we only got one life and when that´s said and done, everything is over. Thus we need to make the most out of our existence because when it all is said and done we can look back on our life and die without regrets. The infinite is a bit too big for me to not exist with a handful of regrets on my shoulders. When I am dead and gone and never return, it is a bit too long of a time to grieve about things never done.
One life
One existence
Only one chance to make your dreams count.
Call me a bore or a broken record, but that´s what I truly believe in, that´s my motto and what drives me forwards. That Is what gives me power, the power to fight and stand up after every knockdown. Because in life it isn’t the amount of punishment you inflict that counts. What counts is how much punishment you can endure and how you manage to still stand up after every fight.
Thus what I would regret, Ronnie is not whether I win or lose my title to you. Whether I continue my undefeated streak or not; what I would regret is going into this fight and not giving it all in the ring. You see, Ronnie, I find no shame in losing to you. I find no shame in losing at all because it all is part of the whole. Losing is as much part of the equation as it is winning. No shame in fighting in that ring and getting beat.
What I would find shameful is being a lame fighter and a lazy competitor. I go into every fight expecting myself to give one hundred percent in the ring. Win or Lose. Because being a fighter is what I am, and if I become lazy about what I am…
…Then what is it that´s left of me?”
Eron shakes his head again. The small silent intermezzo is overdue and thus he remains silent for some seconds, just to resume his monologue some instants afterward.
“Ronnie Long. I respect you. You´ve been around for a long time and for a long time you managed to remain true to your beliefs and your values.
Now you say something has changed and thus so have your convictions. I do not judge you for that. You have the freedom to think and act the way you like to think and act, that´s until your way of thinking starts interfering with the well-being of those around you.
I am not one to, actually, judge.
I might seem like a knight in shiny armor, but I’ve also had my share of mistakes and wrongdoings. I am human after all. What I remain true to is the fact that I do not act with the intent of harming another one's existence unless we´re in the ring, that is.
I am a fighter Ronnie
Fighting is what I live for. Thus all I can say is…
..Bring it, champ. Do your best and I will do mine”
Eron smiles.
Fade.
