*We open up in a hotel gym, presumably after the workout DT was heading to at the end of the last promo. Death Trap looks sweaty and exhausted. He towels off his head and the bench he was just using, reracks the free weights from the floor and grabs his gym bag. He lets out a sigh and begins to move with purpose back towards the hallway to his room, and presumably a nice, totally-not-spied-upon shower.*
"I don’t think you realize how freeing this all is for me, null."
*DT seems to be full of youthful energy, betrayed by the gray in his hair and beard that seems to shine even brighter while wet and sweaty.*
"This is something almost new to me, it’s been so long. This match has me excited. And I know, I should feel pressure. Pressure to perform in the first REAL match under my new fed banner, pressure to beat the clock, pressure to work quickly when my entire strategy in the ring is to grind people down with submissions and endurance, and let my stamina do the walking. I should feel the pressure to get myself into the picture for that X*Crown. Third reign sounds lovely."
*He stops as he reaches the cameraman and begins to smile right into the camera. A fun, enthusiastic smile not seen since before he left MCCW in its hiatus to join up with SWAT. A carefree, ease to his motions tells us DT is feeling very good right now.*
"And yet? I feel free. I feel exuberant. I feel fan-fucking-tastic. It’s something that a fan or a student of my game would understand, but you probably don’t. So let me enlighten you as to why this challenge has me so full of vim and vigor. Let me take you back to End of Days 2019. I was charged with putting SCCW on the global map. Its world champion put into a tournament for a briefcase. It was put upon me that I needed to perform. Now nothing would happen if I DIDN’T win, but it was clear from Ronnie’s sweaty expression that the money I’d bring in with a good performance would go a long way to helping out. Then again that sweat could be why Ronnie kept giving us technical problems …"
*He lets out a chuckle and begins to walk to his room with the cameraman following.*
"I felt it again, the thrill of putting myself in the spotlight, being a hero. Another stint on the front lines. Time passed and I gained a tag partner and protégé. And then MCCW went under. Well the need to be important never went away. As anyone will tell you, I am a bit of a glory hound. So, when I went to repay a favor to Radu and help him in SWAT … I saw a fed in need. A fed that was strangling under the yoke of corruption from its top. From that day I became Savior of SWAT. And the pressure never let up."
*He sighs and slides the key card into the electronic lock and watches as it turns green. He pushes open the door and tosses his bag to the side. He lets the cameraman in and lets the door slam behind them.*
"It’s been a struggle, and I never even realized it. Carrying the fight in SWAT, jumping to Fireside to help out Mistress and fight ANOTHER corrupt authority figure. Pushing to finally win the global tag titles. It was pressure that I could handle, but had been strained under for too long. I felt like a tightrope walker at a three ring circus. And the veneer was cracking."
*He laughs and sits on his bed*
"And for what? SWAT and Fireside are closed. But here I sit with this match in front of me. No titles on the line, no worries. Do you understand how I feel knowing no partner is relying on me? I don’t have to try and be strong to make sure she isn’t hurt by my actions. No title on the line for me to try and win or defend. You aren’t going to stab me with a screwdriver or a sewing needle if I start to win. Nobody trying to cave my head in with a camera or suffocate me with a banana peel, or light me on fire… There will be no disappointment from my teammate and friends. I feel no pressure here. I carried the load for so long. Hearing the talk of how I was the weak link and my partner was better than me."
*He looks at his computer screen where his screensaver is an image from the zoo with Sarah taking a selfie, MD and DT arms around each other just behind, Chaos’s booty hanging out from the prairie dog tunnels while firefighters try to extract her.*
"She’s certainly more entertaining than me but I’m not ready to pass the torch to her completely. The goal is for her to be better, that’s every trainer’s desire for their trainee. But not yet. This match, there’s nobody relying on me, no crazy gimmicks, nobody to save. I am free to just … put on a show. What I do best. And you, you are an enigma. Not much tape to study, not much to go off of. I know you can go, null. That’s all I need to know. To give you my everything… and have fun. Freedom, is something I can get used to. And I promise to stretch myself, and you, to the limit. I will beat you, and the clock. Because I want to, and because that is the show these new fans in a new place paid to see. And I thrive on the thrill of new fans. And you, are stepping into your own- … oh you know the rest."
