The scene opens up with a limousine pulling up to “Casino Nova Scotia” in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The limo stops and the driver walks to the back passenger side door. He opens the door and out steps “The High Roller” Wesley Crane. Right after he steps out, Henderson joins him. Wesley looks around, taking in the scenery. He takes a deep breath in and then begins to cough.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “This place smells like shit. I didn’t think anyplace could smell worse than Britain but I’ll be damned, I was wrong.”
The limo driver, who is from Canada, looks offended.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Hendo, tip the man.”
Henderson pulls out some cash and hands it to the driver. Henderson reaches in the trunk and pulls out two bags.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Let’s go. I want you to take those to my suite. I’ll be on the floor. You called ahead to set me up with my own private roulette table, correct?”
Henderson: “Yes, sir.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Excellent.”
Wesley and Henderson enter the casino. Henderson heads to the check in counter while Wesley is met by the casino owner. The owner shakes hands with Wesley and the two of them begin talking back and forth. Quickly, Wesley walks off with the owner. They get to a roulette table. There is nobody there except for a worker named “Bob.” The owner shakes hands with Wesley once again and then walks away. Wesley speaks to Bob.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Look, Bob… you have the opportunity to make a decent amount of money here tonight. Here’s how it’s going to work. If I win, you win. I’m a generous man and I believe in rewarding those who help make me richer than I already am.”
Bob: “Thank you, sir. When would you like to begin?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Let’s start out small. Give me a thousand dollars worth of chips.”
Bob does as he’s told and gives Wesley one thousand dollars worth of chips. Immediately Wesley places all of the chips on black.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Let it ride on black! Let’s go!”
Bob shoots the ball out. It spins over and over again. As it starts to slow down, it lands on 23 red. Wesley takes a deep breath and lets it out.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Damnit, Bob. That’s not the way you earn your bonus. Give me five thousand dollars in chips. Let’s go, there’s money to be won.”
Bob exchanges his stack of cash for a stack of chips. Again, Wesley takes the entire stack and puts it on black.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Okay, Bob… Here's your chance to make up for it. Let’s go!”
Bob shoots the ball out and once again it spins around and around. This time, it lands on 22 black.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Fuck yeah! That’s what I’m talking about.”
Bob gets an extra five thousand in chips and slides them over to Wesley. Wesley has a huge smile on his face. He takes the ten thousand in chips and places them all on black once again. Bob tries to keep a straight face, but he can’t believe what he’s seeing. Ten thousand dollars on one color is a lot of money for most people, but not for someone like Wesley Crane.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Alright, Bob… let it ride on black, let’s go!”
Bob sends the ball zipping around. This time it lands on 2 black. Wesley slaps the table.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Yes!” Let’s go again.”
Bob slides ten grand in chips to Wesley. He takes those chips, adds them to his other ten grand in chips and places all twenty thousand dollars in chips on black.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Let’s go!”
Bob: “Are you sure, sir?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Let it ride on black, let’s fucking go!”
Bob takes a deep breath. It’s not his money but he’s feeling nervous about this bet. He lets the ball go and it spins once again. This time it lands on 11 black. Wesley shouts with joy.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Forty thousand dollars. Started with one thousand dollars and now I have forty thousand. Bob, this is how it’s done. You have to take a chance if you want to be successful. Sometimes it’s not easy. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but without risk there can be no reward. I’m feeling lucky. Give me another sixty thousand dollars in chips.”
Bob’s eyes almost pop out of his head. He’s seen some high rollers in his day but nothing like this. He does as he’s told and slides another sixty grand in chips over to Wesley. Meanwhile, Henderson comes walking up to the table. Wesley, being in a good mood, throws an arm around Henderson.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Alright Hendo, I’m going to give you your bonus. Bob, give me a thousand dollars in chips. We’re going to see how my assistant does.”
Bob gives Henderson one thousand dollars worth of chips. Henderson places a single one hundred dollar chip on black. Wesley watches on in disbelief.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Pathetic… fucking pathetic.”
Henderson: “What?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Hendo, you’re never going to advance in this world if you don’t take some risks. Black has been hot. Take your full grand… let it ride on black… take a risk.”
Henderson looks at Bob. Bob just shrugs his shoulders.
Henderson: “Ah, what the hell. What do I have to lose?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Attah boy! Bob, Hendo is ready to play. He’s ready to let it ride on black.”
Bob lets the ball go. It spins and spins. Henderson looks concerned. The ball lands on 1 red. Henderson lowers his head and mumbles under his breath.
Henderson: “Son of a bitch. I shouldn’t have listened to-”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Cheer up, Hendo. Ya win some, ya lose some.”
Wesley pats his assistant on the shoulder a couple of times.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Alright, one last bet for now. Let’s take all 100k and let it ride on black. Let’s go!”
Bob lets it spin again. This time it lands on 15 black. Wesley slaps the table.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Son of a bitch, would you look at that. Two hundred thousand dollars in about ten minutes. Not a bad day's worth of work. Now excuse me, there’s a beautiful looking woman sitting over at the black jack table that I need to meet.”
Wesley takes a one hundred dollar chip and tosses it to Bob. Bob looks at the chip, disappointed in his “bonus” from Wesley.
Bob: “Thanks a lot.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “With that hundred dollars you can turn it into thousands if you’re willing to risk it. I just taught you something far more valuable than cash. Take what you’ve learned here tonight and use it to your advantage. See ya around, Bob.”
The scene fades out with Wesley walking toward the beautiful woman at the black jack table while Henderson scoops up all of Wesley’s chips.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “This place smells like shit. I didn’t think anyplace could smell worse than Britain but I’ll be damned, I was wrong.”
