Katie Moss tugged on her dress, and frowned as she muttered under her breath. Her pretty face was marked with a line of anger as she walked down the hall with the camera man in tow. And she fumed. 'I am sick of the people in this company always leering at me, or hitting on me, or treating me like a servant! I am a journalist, I deserve as much respect as Rude! Or at least Fulton! I am going to speak to Mr. Blood, I have had enough.'
Katie shoved through the door as the camera man tried to stop her, and she found herself in a dimly lit room. Her eyes blinked rapidly, and she looked around wildly as realization dawned. Only one group of people in W:UK summoned reporters to darkened rooms, and for one long moment Katie wished there was someone around to hit on her. Instead she nearly leapt from her skin as something moved in the shadows, and the leering skull mask of one of the ODS stared down at her.
Mormo? Or was it Moloch? Katie couldn't tell the difference, in fact only Sinclair seemed to have that gift.
At least neither one of them would hit on her, Katie didn't think they even knew she was a woman.
The real problem for Katie Moss was that she didn't know where the Scourge was, Donzig could be anywhere. That was one of the worst things about him, you never knew exactly where or when he would appear. Or what his mood would be, the man who called himself Death in High Places' personality and moods shifted at random throughout the day. It was one of the things that made him dangerous.
'He's not here, Katie.' purred a voice from the shadows as though it had read her thoughts. Another thing Katie hated about dealing with these people.
'Sinclair?' Katie turned, and then nearly screamed as a hand landed on her shoulder from behind.
'Ah, poor Katie. I have seen how these men have treated you like a piece of candy, like some kind of toy here for their amusement. You won't get that here, Katie. You see here in the Endless Dark? We don't care about how pretty you are.'
'Oh, Donzig seems to notice how pretty Eli is.' Katie quipped, and then her eyes widened as she realized what she said.
Sinclair's hand tightened on her shoulder, and she was spun around to face the angry glare of the Baroness. Sinclair leaned closer, teeth bared in a snarl as her free hand lifted like a claw. Katie swallowed, Sinclair was normally the most calm of the so-called Children of the Fall but Katie had struck a nerve. Sinclair hissed in a breath, tilting her head to look at her hand before it dropped.
'I would not mention Eli Dresden again if I were you, Katie. Do you understand me?'
Katie nodded slowly, and Sinclair drew back a step before her faint smirk returned.
'I called you here because I wanted to address my match against Julianna DiMaria.' Sinclair shrugged, a hand moving to absently lift the edge of her long coat as she rubbed it between her fingers. Head tilting as she let it fall. 'Misogyny? Does Julianna think perhaps these men are threatened by her? That she thinks they fear her or hate her? Or think less of her because she is a woman? Is that what she thinks? How novel, how very drool. Because you see, dear Katie, I have walked into the Belly of the Beast at the side of the Great Dark himself and not once has anyone ever called me out for being a woman.'
Katie seemed to consider that, after all everyone seemed to treat Sinclair like she was one of the boys.
'Um, well, everyone knows you are only interested in--' Mormo cleared his throat from where he hovered in the darkness, and Moloch stared at her. Katie blinked, and found Sinclair staring at her with flat hard eyes that made you forget her pretty face. Those eyes had the same cold empty shark like stare of the Scourge, and Katie waved a hand before she licked her lips. '--you are a very accomplished wrestler in your own right, I mean to say. Everyone in the XHF knows how dangerous you are.'
Sinclair lifted her chin haughtily, Katie mused that she was in her own way every bit as arrogant as Donzig.
'That is true, because everyone keeps talking about Julianna standing tall at the end of the Battle of Britain. But it was not her, who started first was it? Who went toe to toe with names like Lord Dominicus, Spike Kane, or even Bloodied Fox? Who was standing at the start of this mess against the Hardkore World Heavyweight Champion Disney's Marty Donovan? Because it was not that platinum blonde trollop! The Usurper did not trouble herself to come down here and rob Julianna DiMaria did she?'
Sinclair's voice had risen to a near scream, and Katie winced as the Baroness paused to take a deep breath. Her fingers pressed against her lips, and she tilted her head back as she seemed to shiver. And Katie stared after all she had seen everyone in Donzig-gun do the exact same thing, it was un-nerving. She stepped back, knowing very well that after such things Donzig could and would explode.
'Julianna wants to have a press conference and cry about how she is treated here? I am the reason this place is intergender, people like me, people like Commandrix--'
'Did you just say something nice about Commandrix?'
'Say what you will? That woman has twice the heart of a creature like Julianna DiMaria! Commandrix would never go off and have a protest to whine about how a man treated her! She would kick their teeth down their throat! And in fact? That is what I plan on doing at Liverpool.'
