It was late autumn, but winter was nowhere in sight.
The temperatures were spring-like and the sun shone brightly. The sky was cerulean and the clouds white. A flock of birds flying above and the wind playing with the grass in the fields. He was lying in the middle of the meadow, surrounded by white lilies and green grass. His forearms were placed behind the back of his head and a blade of grass hung from the left corner of his mouth. He stared at the cerulean sky and the golden sun and smiled.
Everything was calm; like it seldom is.
Life is a constant struggle.
Life I anything but fair
Thus one should cherish the small, peaceful moments and enjoy life when one can.
He smiled again and wiped his eyelids with the back of his hand. Life is war, surely, but it also is a wondrous trip and an eternal moment filled with adventures of every kind. One should take pleasure in the moment and appreciate the story of his existence, look at it with asking eyes, and think that, although difficult, every life is worth living.
He looked at the flock of birds flying in the sky and shook his head, calmly.
He was flying too!
Since his return to the world of wrestling, he had savored the success his talent and his effort had brought with them. He was undefeated in W: UK and commonwealth champion. He was the reigning West Coast Champion in HKW, something he should have made on the first attempt, in the tourney, but he had managed to defeat The Sheik in their clash for the championship and right the wrong The Sheik and his manager had done to him in their first fight, in the tourney.
Everything was going well.
He was back where he belonged!
In the squared circle.
He had a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, but he was a fighter through and through and he never doubted that for one second in his life. He had left home at the tender age of sixteen and traveled the world with one purpose and one purpose only: to become the greatest fighter ever, or at least become the best fighter he could ever manage to be.
And he had managed just that.
He was a multiple times champion, he was an accomplished fighter and wrestler and he had done just what he dreamed about in just five years of his wrestling career. But he never rested, he never became complacent, and he never thought about himself as the alpha and the omega of everything wrestling. He was sure he would never pat himself on the shoulder and think everything was done. Surely, he had been wrestling for only five years, but he had been fighting since the age of sixteen. Fighting for everything, sometimes even for a loaf of bread, he never and never gave up. He had a dream, and a man that has a purpose, who has a dream, is a man that is living a fulfilled existence.
He started on the streets…
…and now he was reaching for stardom!
His next fight?
Against Daigo Arakawa, for the XHF Junior Heavyweight Championship.
A fight for a title that would mean he was the best of the best, at least for his weight class, and that was everything he had dreamed about since he was a child.
Life, what a wondrous journey it indeed is. He smiled again, shaking his head almost in disbelief. He started super low, and look at him now. If he looked back, over his shoulder, and at his past, he surely saw moments of sadness and hunger, hunger for food and accomplishments in the unforgiving reality. But he also saw dreams and strength to reach his goals.
He never gave up and never despaired.
He took life as it was, as it came.
He knew life was sometimes hell, but he also knew that if a man believes in himself and his dreams, that that man could achieve everything he wanted. He also knew although he forgot it in a few short moments, that there were people there that loved him.
And that was enough.
More than enough to overcome any hindrance in front of him.
His next hindrance? His next obstacle?
Daigo Arakawa!
The scene opens up focusing on cerulean skies. And then, slowly, the camera moves down to find another target. There is a man, somewhat tall and young, wearing a white overcoat staring at the camera, with his hands deep in his jeans pockets. He looks at the camera for some more moments and then starts speaking in a slow, placid manner.
“Changes…
…They always happen.
If there´s anything sure about life then it is, that it is a constant change. Nothing stays the same forever; no man can swim in the same river twice. But sometimes, sometimes these changes are not for the better, sometimes these changes bring up the worst in people. And what is more wrong than that, is the fact that these people think that just because they are something else, they are better now.
I have seen it many times in my young life. Good people, positive ones, which change into something worse, almost monstrous, overnight. And what is worse is that they do not see anything wrong with that. Actually, if anything, they think they are better now.
People who gave their all for the good of others swim in their wrongdoings with passion. People who think they can reach the top now, because of doubt and hatred, cynical ways, and rejecting other people´s goodness, give them strength. Or so they think.
People like Daigo Arakawa, who once was a fan favorite, now turn their back on the masses and swear they only trust themselves. That they do not give a damn about the fans and other people´s cheers and applause. People who have momentarily reached the top and think they have discovered the truth about life and success…
…and that truth is
Live your life only for yourself. Evilness has engulfed the world and you can trust no one. Do not give a damn about others and care only for yourself. Malevolence always wins, so why give anything to hope and positivity? Chaos rules the world and if you want to be the king of this world you need to give in to chaos.
I hear them.
I hear you, Arakawa!
I too can say I am not a very sociable person. But between that and giving in to chaos and lack of trust, well there are miles between them. I surely love my solitude, but I also know something very important, that being that no man is an island. There have been moments in my life when I was alone, but I never felt lonely, why? Because I knew there were people there who loved me and cared about me, who dreamt about me and hoped for my well-being.
Even in the darkest of nights, their good wishes enlightened my road. Even In the most hopeless of moments, the cheers of the fans of the squared circle give me hope and strength, the strength to overcome all hindrances and best any challenge in front of me. Thus I am stronger.
There are people in this world, who believe that chaos and malevolence are stronger, and that hope and love have their limits but evilness doesn´t! But I tell you, Daigo Arakawa, they are wrong. You are wrong. For every Adolf Hitler of this world, who thinks evil rules but in the bitter end finds their end in a bunker somewhere and alone, there is a Mother Theresa that has given her heart to hope and her life to love, to love for everything alive.
Love gives life and hope.
Evilness only takes them away.
Thus I am stronger. Because I believe in dreams and hope because I believe in mankind and fans. The fans, their cheers give me hope. I am a fighter, born, and all I know is the fight and all I want is to become the best there is. I fight with all my heart and my dreams and that makes me invincible. Even in a possible loss.
Daigo you are the champion, but for how long?
Surely I can lose, at this level of competition, it is a fifty-fifty chance. But even so, I still have my dreams. I have the fans and my loved ones. They give me might. And you? If you lose your belt what´s left of you?
My dreams give me might, and hope it gives me optimism. They make me a great challenger. The greatest one you have faced in your reign as champion. I will fight with all my might so that I can best you in our upcoming clash.
And if I lose, I live to dream another dream.
You?”
Fade.
