The scene is simple; Eron sitting on a sofa, leaning forward, and his forearms resting on his kneecaps. The room is dimly lit, enough to see around and understand where we are. It´s a locker room, nothing too fancy; Eron Hunter style, the man is a simple man, and although he is currently a triple champion, he still maintains his uncomplicated style.
“Currently a triple champion
I know what you two will say, and it´s somehow the truth, other titles mean nothing in W: UK. This is a separate entity and obliges only to its own rules. On the other side of the matter, I do not agree with this somehow. We are part of the whole, a fellowship if you want to call it, and XHF exists because of the federations that are part of it.
Anyway; that´s beyond my point.
What I wanted to say were two things.
The first is that if a man, if a fighter, starts resting on his laurels everything can be over pretty quickly. One day you are a triple champion, and the next thing you know you are laying in the gutter with all you own being only your spite falling on the streets, from your mouth. With everything you own being only your past achievements, now amounting to nothing, and your wounded pride.
And that´s a true testing ground for pride.
If all you have going for you is nothing but to beg while sitting on a street corner, what amount of pride is there left? Not much if you ask me.
Thus I made a promise to myself, ages ago, that being that no matter my achievements, I will never rest on my laurels and never become complacent. Because if you are flying low with your career you won’t hurt much if you fall, but if you are reaching for the high skies the amount of hurt you have to endure, after a crash, is kind of plenty.
The second thing I wanted to say is kind of obvious.
If I am a champion, that means I have quite enough smarts and talent within me. Otherwise one would not be able to be champion in Wrestle: United Kingdom. Not with the amount of talent we got here. Thus I am not an easy subject to deal with, or easily beat for that matter.”
Eron crosses his arms on his chest, leaning back on the sofa.
“That means I have the might to overcome hindrances, mountains if you want to say so, at any given time; even when the odds seem to be against me. That means I can surprise my opponents any time of the day.
This means I could even kick out of a dead-sure, all-ending, finishing move.
I have heard you, Rob Riot, and your fellow Bastards telling us you had me in that match. Telling that you were robbed of a dead sure victory by Ronnie Long and telling the Commonwealth Championship should have adorned your shoulder by now.
Well, what´s sure is that Ronnie Long interfered.
What´s not so sure is the fact that even if you would have managed to pull off what you were not allowed to do, that means laying me down for the final three count…
…I might even have managed to kick out!
You will disagree, maybe, and say it isn’t so. But I know something for sure, that being that in life and fights nothing is mathematically sure. Many times, in life and the squared circle, one plus one amounts to three! You can claim all you want that you had me there, Rob Riot, but I have all the right to think that maybe, just maybe, I would have had the guts and the heart to turn it all around when everything seemed to go against me.
Even without the interference from Ronnie Long…
Ronnie, you have been silent lately. I do not what to think about it, about your apparent apathy and motionlessness. You went and interfered one too many times in my business. But when the time came to face your victim you fell short. Way too short.
I must agree that I had to think about our encounter way too many times.
It ended way too fast.
I wasn´t sure what to think about it.
As far as I am concerned, there is a big question mark above your head and above every single action, you have had the guts, or not, to do these past times.
Maybe it is you
Maybe it is me…
…Is there any small amount of goodness, there, in your heart or is it just my mistake in trying to find something good in each human soul. Maybe it is the first, maybe the second. I do not know right now, and to be honest, right now it doesn´t matter.
What matters most is this Commonwealth Championship adorning my shoulder. What matters most is that a champion has to give over one hundred percent, to remain champion. It is kind of easy to win a title, not really actually, what´s difficult is being able to defend your achievement over and over again. You are a champion over and over…
…Until it is over!”
Eron shakes his head, looking at the concrete underneath his shoes, and then a soft smile decorates his face.
“I can do some things and others not. What I cannot do is be unbeatable, someday my reign as Commonwealth Champion will end, what I actually can do is one…
…That being to make promises I can keep!
And I will make one promise to you two, right now.
I promise that I. Eron Hunter will fight till there´s light in my soul .I promise you two that I will give you the fight of your lives in this upcoming show.
Now, that´s a promise I can keep”
