As the scene opens, we find “The High Roller” Wesley Crane walking around backstage at the arena where Legacy #10 will be taking place. He’s dressed in one of his $10,000 Armani suits. As he walks through the backstage area, it’s pretty clear that nobody is there. Still, “The High Roller” walks through as if it’s filled with tons of people. With him is a cameraman, holding a camera, watching every move Wesley makes.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Anyone here? Anyone? Anyone at all?”
There is a quiet voice that comes from around the corner.
Quiet Voice: “I am here, can I help you?”
Wesley looks shocked.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Uh, yes, yes you can. Please, come here.”
A little old lady comes walking around the corner, pushing a cleaning cart. She has got to be in her late 60’s. A hard life has definitely worn her down, but her spirits remain high.
Quiet Voice: “I’m here. How can I help you?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “What’s your name, ma’am?”
Quiet Voice: “My name is Edna.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Good evening, Edna. I have a couple of questions for you.”
Edna: “Okay, I’ll do what I can to help you out.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “I’d like to show you a picture. I need to know if you’ve seen this man.”
Wesley pulls out his cell phone, pushes a couple of buttons and then shows the lady a picture.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Have you seen this man?”
Edna: “No, sir. I’ve never seen him before.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “So you have no idea who this man is?”
Edna: “No, never in my life.”
Wesley shakes his head in disgust.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Sadly, I’m not shocked.”
Wesley places his phone back in his pocket and then smiles at Edna.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Edna, do you have any idea who I am?”
Edna: “I’m sorry, sir, but no I don’t. I apologize.”
Wesley reaches out and pats her on her shoulder. He has a much softer tone about him.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “It’s okay. Did you know there’s going to be a wrestling show here in the next day or so?”
Edna: “I heard something about it. I don’t get too much into details. I just go about my business, cleaning like I’m supposed to do.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Do you like your job?”
Edna: “It’s okay. It’s a job. Hey, you never told me your name.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “The name’s Crane, Wesley Crane. It’s a pleasure meeting you.”
Edna: “You as well, Wesley. Are you a promoter or something?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Oh no, no, no. Not a promoter. I’m one of the wrestlers.”
Edna looks shocked.
Edna: “No offense, but you look too… I don’t know… dressed up to be a professional wrestler. You look more like you’d own a wrestling promotion or something.”
Wesley gets a smile on his face.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Maybe if the price is right and if Blood would walk away from the company.”
Edna: “What was that?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Oh never mind. Back to my original question, you’ve never seen this guy around, huh?”
Edna: “Nope, never.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Interesting.”
Edna: “He a friend or a foe?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Definitely a foe. This guy thinks he’s something special. Thinks he’s better than everyone else. Wants to be the face of our company, but always shows up late. Edna, what would happen if you showed up late to work all the time?”
Edna: “I’d get fired… and if that were the case, I’d deserve to get fired.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Indeed, I believe anyone should be fired for being late all the time.”
Wesley looks directly into the camera and winks.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Edna, at the next show, the show that’s taking place here in this arena, I will be teaming with my best friend, Marty Donovan. Maybe you’ve heard of him?”
Edna: “No, I’m sorry, I haven’t. If I’m being honest, I don’t know anything about professional wrestling.”
Wesley pats Edna’s shoulder once again, being very gentle with her.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “It’s okay, you remind me a lot of my grandmother. Until I got into the wrestling business, she didn’t know anything about professional wrestling either.”
Edna smiles at Wesley.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “So at this show, I am teaming with my best friend, Marty Donovan to take on a team called… and please, pardon my language… “The Bastards”...”
Edna doesn’t seem to like the name.
Edna: “They sound like the bad guys. I’m guessing you and Marty are the good guys?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Yeah, something like that… So back to your job. You’re not too happy with your job, right?”
Edna: “Well, it pays my bills and puts a little food in my belly… so I guess I can’t complain too much.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Edna, do you have a cell phone?”
Edna: “I do.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “And do you have a banking app on your phone? One that allows you to check your bank accounts online?”
Edna: “Yes, I do. Why do you ask?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “Because tis’ the season… Edna, I want to bless you today.”
Edna looks confused.
Edna: “Umm, bless me, how?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “I want to deposit $10,000 into your bank account. Call it a Christmas present from one good human who has done well for himself to another good human who could use a little boost.”
Edna: “Wait, are you serious?”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “As serious as a heart attack. Like I said, you remind me of my grandmother.”
Edna: “I… I don’t know what to say, Wesley.”
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “The look on your face is all I need. Here, let me see your phone.”
Edna hands the phone over to Wesley. He taps the screen a few times. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he slams the phone down on the ground, smashing it into pieces. Edna looks shocked and mortified.
Edna: “What… what was that for?”
Edna begins to weep. She bends down and begins picking up the pieces of her phone. Out of nowhere, “IN THE FACE” to Edna. She lays there, not moving.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “If you didn’t know me before this, you’ll definitely know me after this. Merry Christmas, bitch.”
Wesley dusts off his shoulders and looks directly into the camera.
“The High Roller” Wesley Crane: “William Fowler… You can hide all you want, but the fact is, at Legacy #10, you and Windsor don’t stand a chance against Big Brain Wesley Crane and Marty Donovan. At Legacy, I expose you for who you really are… a fucking coward… and at the PPV… Oh, I’m sorry, the “Premium Live Event”... I’m going to take what is rightfully mine, the Wrestle:UK World Championship. See ya soon! Oh, and Windsor… fuck off!”
With that said, Wesley shoves the cameraman and walks off.
