As the day ends, on a cold December day. Wellington Dunne walks into Cheez’s gaming room a cup of hot chocolate in his hand. As he slowly takes a spin of the still piping hot brevage, he curls his lips slightly, as he slightly burns the tip of his tongue. He walks over to Cheez who is busy playing a game of Apex Legends and is completely oblivious to Dunne, due to him focusing mostly on the game, and due to the fact that Cheez is wearing his headphones. Dunne however is a good friend, and doesn’t startled Cheez, instead opting to wait for Cheez to be killed, before tapping him on the shoulder.
Dunne: “Anything yet?”
Cheez: : “Nothing. I’ve sent e-mails, texts, i even called and nothing. I mean understand, that B.B. Gunn told us to wait it out while he worked on few things, but it’s been months.”
Dunne: “And, you kinda wanna know if you’re still employed?”
Cheez: “If I’m still employed, half of the damn roster is asking the same thing.”
Dunne: “Well if NLW is done, you could go work for another company.”
Cheez: “But, that’s just it I don’t want to work for another company. I like working for NLW, they made me feel like I… Like I could actually do this. The roster, the refs, management, you. Have been so instrumental in helping me build up my self-confidence, that to have that world ripped away form me, scares the living shit out of me. It’s like being a small child and watching your parents die, and being unable to help. I feel like fucking Bruce Wayne, without the money or the butler.”
Dunne: “I understand how you feel. I felt the same way after I lost my job in AXW.”
Cheez: “But, that was your own doing, you put up your career in AXW against Caffrey, cause you let your own personal vendetta for the man cloud your judgement, and you paid the price for it. You made that choice, that was you. I didn’t make this one, but it’s not the not working part of it the kills me. It’s the not knowing part that does.”
Dunne sits down in an empty chair still drinking his hot chocolate, Cheez notices what Dunne has in his hands.
Cheez: “That better not be my Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate.”
Dunne looks down at his cup, before nervously looking at Cheez.
Dunne: “Maybe..?”
Cheez: “And is that… That better not my limited edition R2-D2 mug.”
Dunne looks down at his cup nervously.
Dunne: “What no I would never. At least I don’t think it is, how could one tell if it was?”
Cheez: “There’s a gold Star Wars logo on the bottom.”
Dunne looks at the bottom of his cup.
Dunne: “Nope, this one’s plain black.”
Cheez: “You’re lucky.”
The camera pans to show that it’s actually the gold Star Wars logo.
Dunne: “And what would you have done to me had it been the other one.”
Cheez: “Probably just whine about. I ain’t about to fight you, you’d eat me up, like my brother eats cheeseburgers.”
Dunne: “I hear, Mike’s gonna be working for Champoon here soon, you could always join him, if NLW never gets back to us.”
Cheez: “True, but that’s just it.. I kinda don’t want to. Look I know that I shouldn’t get my hopes up, and that I should wait it out, but look at what I did while I was there. I was a Tag Team Champion. I had a match for the XHF Junior Heavyweight Title.”
Dunne: “Stop right there, think about what you just said.”
Cheez: “What do you mean?”
Dunne: “You were a Tag Team Champion, you had a XHF Junior Heavyweight match, and you earned them, through had work and dedication. Not because of the company you worked for. If you take that same, drive to any fed, anywhere, you are at least guaranteed to become on of their top stars. That same drive, could make a champion in Tapout, J-Rok, SCCW, or even REIGN. But, you must not let the unknown discourage you form stepping out of your comfort zone, and that’s what NLW is for you, a security blanket. NLW is your box fort and you’re so busy coloring that you don’t realize there’s a world of opportunity out there for you. Look, I’m not saying NLW is done, that’s a question I can’t answer, bit what I am saying is that, you can either sit and waste time playing Fortnite, or can try to go out there and take a chance somewhere else. And yes you will fail, and yes it will suck, But I’ve seen you time an time again pick yourself up and keep trying. No matter who many times you lost, you kept trying, which is what make you one the most popular guys in the entire XHF Network. Hell I have guys telling me I should be more like you, and I’m supposed to be your mentor.”
Cheez looks at Dunne, with tears in his eyes.
Cheez: “Do people really think that of me?”
Dunne: “Yes they do, which why so many are looking forward to our match against Top of The Class, because they know, that even if we do loss, it’s not going to be due to lack of trying. They know that you are going to go out there and give it everything you have, and that’s going to take everything Death Trap and Mistress Discipline has to keep you down.”
Cheez sits shaking as tears roll down his face, as Dunne walks over to him and places him hands on his shoulders, looking him straight in the face.
Dunne: “You need to learn something, in this life there are wants and needs. You want to be able to wrestle in an NLW ring again. You need to realize that, might not always be an option. I want to see you succeed, but I need to realize that you already have, and I should stop being your mentor and try to be a a better partner. And Top of The Class wants to remain XHF Tag Team Champions, but they need to realize that’s not gonna happen.”
Dunne: “Anything yet?”
