Renegades of Wrestling presents: 2023 OH MY OH ME!
Jan 7th from The Pit
Bell time 7:00pm
Renegades of Wrestling returned to their hometown of Edmonton, Alberta at the newly proclaimed "Pit" for their first show of 2023. The highly anticipated show drew a sell out crowd of 400, that amount likely over fire code considering how full it was. The first row was pushed back from ringside but this didn't stop fans from rushing up to pound on the mat, but also left enough room for the more mercurial talents who might want to leave the ring in highlight fasion... which definitely happened a lot. Security was visibly present, helping wrestlers get to the ring and back as well as maneuver through the building as needed. Renegades sported a great light set up and excellent sound system, maybe mre then a company of their nature normally might. Merch was moving briskly, with a few wrestlers at the tables for autographs early nd at intermission.
The first match was a scramble match featuring a half a dozen talents. Strapping Young Lad came out first, a metal head, tatted and juiced to the gills strong man who has glimpses of wild athleticism. Steve Spearman, lawyer at large, was second, handing out cards as he came to the ring. Newcomer, the canine masked Feral was third, followed by the bright colored masked Ragdoll, poker playing Ace Spade and Adrien Wallace, a more generic looking character sporting kickpads and a black belt around his waist. To say this match was action packed would be understating it. This was 12 minutes of non stop action, literally. At no point was everyone down and everyone had a point to shine in the contest. There was a crazy dive spot where each wrestler took a turn diving onto the others, ending with Strapping Young Lad with a diving flip onto the crowd. Ragdoll went after Feral's mask at several points but the canine themed character fought through and hit a stunning triple jump enzuigiri out of the corner to take him out. Wallace threw Feral out but Strapping Young Lad slammed the martial artist down hard with a spinning powerslam, only to be pulled out by Spade. This gave Feral an opening to leap back in, avoid a charge from Ragdoll and hit a springboard imploding cutter he calls "Just Die Tired" for the emphatic win! This was an All In/All Out match which means Feral won a contract with Ring of Fire and Renegades of Wrestling! There are rumors of a mascara con mascara tournament and Feral might be a perfect fit for it!
The next match was a complete departure, featuring two big men about to slap big meaty meat. It was a wild brawl that never left the ring and never saw another Irish whip the other as Caveman Brody battled newcomer "The Outlaw" Jimmy Sloan. The two three hundred pounders took turns whalloping each other with chops, tackles and slams. Brody got the advantage early and started wearing out Sloan with a trio of standing splashes and a top rope splash, but Slaon came back, stomping the barefooted behemoth on his bare toes before laying him out with a LOUD headbutt and a backdrop driver. The finish came after a striking exchange was stopped dead in it's tracks by a sickening Sloan lariat for the win. Defy was seen watching through the curtain and fist-pumped for the finish Big man wrestling is alive in Renegades!
The slick masked Raindance came out next to battle Roger Roger, a military themed masked character. This was all Raindance as he avoided most of what Roger wanted to do and finished with an open hand uppercut and a standing shooting star press for the quick win. Judging by the mostly one sided affair, Raindance might be in for a push in the fledgling promotion. For someone no one knew he seemed very polished and ready for TV already. Wait... raindance? Hmmm...
Match four featured local favorites Puff, Puff, Pass taking on a pair completely out of their normal style in deathmatch pair Shoko and Krusher Kruel. Oh boy. This went immediately to the birds with the pair of brawlers taking the tag team out of the ring and into the crowd, brawling around the building and absolutely assaulting the smaller wrestlers. They were being tossed everywhere. Against the walls, through chairs, over tables and slammed and suplexed onto the floor. One of PPP was able to break free and vanished, only to be seen later on a high light rig, diving off and wiping out his opponents to the loudest reaction of the night so far. Returning to the ring, the bigger men took back over and started digging up plunder, but 3P was there with a double dive to take them both out. Weapons were deployed on both sides from shovels to chairs. 3P was bloodied by the two bigger men but managed to get Kruel in the ring alone and took turns stapling "papers" to his head and face before leaping off the same turnbuckle with a splash/leg drop combo for the win!
Wolverines vs The Power Couple was definitely the match that filled the house, two of the best unsigned tag teams in North America going at it one on one for the first time ever. The pair have been on the same shows but somehow have never went against each other despite the call for it through the years. The contrast made for a really intriguing contrast. The Power Couple were spot heavy, fast and daring. They like to tag in and out quickly, hitting big moves early and often. The Wolverines were grinders. With MMA, golden glove boxing and Olympic level wrestling backgrounds, they were all about grabbing an opponent and keeping them trapped in a corner, working a body part and wearing them down. High impact throws, devastating strikes and the ilk. This is exactly how it came to be in this match and the contrast was brilliantly worked. Both teams tried deviating from their game plan and both times failed when they tried to copy the method of the other, both times causing edge of the seat nearfalls. Cade was a beast, throwing the Power Couple around whereas his partner used his golden glove background to work ribs and force near knockouts. Defy and Krush, on the other hand, were more a focused unit. Both were all about combo moves, big dives and working around one another in desperate fashion. The match culminated in a succession of wild moves from all men, all with dramatic nearfalls. Yates hit Defy off the apron with a running palm strike, Defy coming up bloodied with a mouse under his eye from the hit. This left Krush isolated for a running knee to the face from Yates and a Cade tiger suplex into a cattle mutilation combo he calls the Cavalcade for the win at almost 25 minutes! What a match! After the contest, Defy lit his opponents up with a promo. There was no handshake or sportsmanship affair. Defy wanted them again and furious at the status of his face challenged Yates to a knockout only match on the next show!
The main event was one the crowd was not ready for. TK O'Connor, DIE Bloodyweight Champion, was out first, sharing shots of fireball with fans as he came out. He was bloody popular, pun intended and hit the ring waiting for whoever was about to answer his open challenge. First out was Dana "The Drone" Daniels, a middle aged man and, yes... a beekeeper. Despite training with Disney's Marty Donovan, he should not have been here and he VERY quickly realized it. Next out was the massive frame of Outlaw Black. Wearing a face covering black mask, the cowboy powerhouse carried an intimidating air. He was completely opposite to the final challenge, JISATSU666! Not even five feet tall, barely a hundred pounds, she was not what ANY of them or any in the crowd expected but by the end of the night was the most popular person in the building. The contest featured everything you think it would. Light tubes, tables, barb wire, thumbtacks and everything in between. Daniels was at a loss during the match and was scared of most weapons but when he blasted Outlaw Black with a light tube, the crowd erupted. Of course, Black immediately chokeslammed him through a table covered in light tubes and we didn't hear from him again for some while. O'Connor got everyone with a Fireball fireball and brought out the true gruesome weapons as he put gusset plates into both Outlaw Black and JISATSU666. Wildly, the tiny deathmatch wonder ignored it, pulled it out and put it right into O'Connor's head! Outlaw Black, plate in his mask, grabbed her and lifted her overhead, tossing her into the crowd before going back to savage the DIE Bloodyweight champion with a slam into the tacks and repeated stomps to his head, driving more in! While all this was going the crowd surfed JISATSU666 back and she went wild on O'Connor and Outlaw Black (as much as she could) with a high sprint striking, springboard kicks and more. She absolutely lit up O'Connor with about 30 slaps to the face. Outlaw Black pulled her off to stop her and lifted her under the armpits, but she had taken the champs booze and blew her own fireball ino his masked face! He tumbled over the ropes and to the floor, clutching at his face. She then grabbed O'Connor and in about the grossest thing ever, pulled out a syringe and put it slowly through one cheek... and then did the same on the other! GROSS! Daniels, somehow alive, rolled in and pulled JISATSU666 around, leveling her with a mongolian chop. The crowd loved it but that was all he got to do as, while celebrating, Outlaw Black came into the ring and grabbed Daniels, leveling him with a massive headbutt. He did the same to the other two, went out and pulled a barbed wire board into the ring and put it into the corner. He lifted JISATSU666 up into a powerbomb position but O'Connor ran up, grabbed her and helped her give him a frankensteiner into the board! Tangled up in broken wood and barbed wire he wouldn't be involved in the finish that saw O'Connor grab his much smaller opponent, who then foot swept him, following up with a basement dropkick and standing firebird (450) splash, bringing the crowd to their feet. The crowd was fully behind her despite a kickout. O'Connor stumbled to his feet, lacing her with a left hand and another Drunken Punch, pulling her up, putting a light tube against her and hitting a Drunken Punch through it and getting another huge win! All four were left a bloody mess in the most violent match in Renegades history, one sure to open eyes across Ring of Fire and XHF as a whole. This was a star making performance for JISATSU666 and the crowd seemed to have a lot of empathy for Daniels. This match surely opened a lot of eyes to DIE and their Bloodyweight Title!
This was a super strong show that had a series of great matches, the worst one designed to feature Raindance who should be in a more prominent role very soon! Nothing was announced post show as bodies were carried out and the ring cleaned but look for announcements on the next show soon!
