""In times of great upheaval and unpleasant change, it is often wise to step back and consult with a trusted confidant. A loved one. Or even a therapist or councilor. It is important that you take care of you…"
*The scene opens on DT sitting in an interview room, set up in the arena where Supremacy is due to take place. He is clearly giving a piece to camera in between his media requirements for the event. He is looking serious as he stares down the camera, various techs and employees buzz around him in the background. You swear you can see Ronnie there to help facilitate the SCCW part of the event … and this is basically confirmed when he trips over a cord, unplugging a server farm and sending a studio light crashing right next to XHF mainstay, Funaki. DT doesn’t so much as bat an eyelash, he is used to both Ronnie and chaos…*
"Look, I’m not going to tell you two how to handle your issues, that would be foolish. We all deal with shit in our own way. And I’m always in the mood for a good respectful match, so I would be lying if I said I wanted you to think about backing out. No I want this. I want a good challenge with tough fighters. And despite your lack of agency in scheduling this match initially, you have more than earned the chance to try and take these titles from the best tag team of 2022."
*DT relaxes back into his chair and pulls his legs into a cross legged position on top of the large seat.*
"But before I get into the nitty gritty and competitive banter, I want you to know … Brendan specifically … that you are a good man. You are a polished fighter and I have to admit, I’ve been following your career in JRoK with great interest. You aren’t like some of the people we’ve had to fight. Kira and Yuki and their … connections. Mav and Raymond and their violent tendencies. Curtis Kanyon and his eccentricities. You are a true wrestler who has risen in the ranks and become King of Hokkaido. And I respect that. I’ll admit my interest at first was due to my desire to test myself against your other half, but that never came to pass and now … well … I’m not sure he’s the same man I wanted to fight in a show for the ages, to get the fans really hyped."
*DT clicks his tongue and sits forward again*
"I don’t know what you are going through, or what got into Peter. If when this is all said and done, you want to talk? I’m always willing to listen. Just uh … keep your buddy from stabbing me ya? I’m getting way too old to be dealing with the same shit you all put yourself through. I got enough of that in SWAT."
*He shakes his head to get the memory out of his mind’s eye. In the background the crew is cleaning the mess as Ronnie scurries off to do more tasks for SCCW on the lead up to Supremacy, and Funaki is left to clean the mess.*
"How the hell anyone made it out of SWAT and RSW alive I will never know. I’ll say this and move on, not looking to dig at open wounds here, not my style. Fox is going through some shit. And he’s got a bad influence in his ear. But … he seems a good man … he’ll come around. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind when he does. Never trust a man in all white… "
*DT stands up and walks towards the camera and it zooms out and begins to follow, clearly being operated by someone.*
"Now, Black Knife Cabal … you guys are a dangerous duo, you know that? Oh yeah, Mistress and I have been watching the tapes, and you guys run a fast paced, hard hitting match. Pretty much the antithesis of how we operate. We like the slow, methodical style. Similar to a good therapy session, we take the time to break down our opponents, find the things that really hurt, and drag it out and make it agony to stay in the ring with us. And that style was on full display, as much as I hate to retread this topic for you, when Jack took on Fox. Both of you use that style. It’s clear you all have learned from each other. But that kind of thing can have consequences. On the one hand, is Jack really 100% after that savagery? Are you 100%, Brendan, after watching your spouse do that to your friend? I know I’m not. Look, it’s not the same as you guys. Clearly your consequences are going to weigh on you and be more dramatic. But uh … all actions make reactive waves …"
Mistress nods.
"It is good to know they both passed the health check. I was worried given their recent challenge in that area of their partnership. … Wait, what was that about a fire killing-"
"Wait. What happened with a mugging? I have Questions."
"Oh yeah, at the GUNS show … Fox really beat the shit out of Jack Gaines. It was brutal and uncalled for. He just snapped. All the Zoran and stabbing and losing and that new guy in his ear … he beat the crap out of his spouse’s best friend."
"… But … you’ve been through all that crap in SWAT too! And … I’M THE BEST FRIEND!"
"Chaos, please calm your temper. I seriously doubt Death Trap is going to-"
*DT reaches for his hat and Chaos flinches.*
"NO NO! Couples talk THROUGH their problems! It is in the interest of my health- THE TEAM’S HEALTH … to make sure you guys are ok! We are not having another incident with my beautiful face like we had in Fireside."
"I don’t know if I should be offended that you are comparing me to MAJ-"
"DON’T SAY THE NAME!"
*Chaos grabs her coat and her daughter’s arm and drags both out the door.*
"Something tells me this will not end well for us."
"Und, how does zat make you feel?"
*A slightly robotic German sounding voice speaks as we fade in on DT and MD sitting on one of those fancy chaise lounges. Behind them, Chaos paces back and forth getting herself more and more agitated by the second.*
"Like we have been dragged into this because my manager does not understand the difference between a couple hitting a bump in the road, where one party has gone insane, and a pair of newlyweds currently on the run of a lifetime as a tag team…"
"Good good, let it all out. Und Death Trap? What is it that drives you insane?"
"YEAH! What makes a man think a pink fedora is a good fashion statement!? CLEARLY INSANE!"
"First of all that hat looked good with your eyes-"
"It did not look good with her eyes."
"It matches your outfit-"
"It did not match her outfit, it was off by two shades."
"It is what all the hip young-"
"You should quit while you are not ahead, Death Trap."
"… … Sarah liked the bucket hat-"
"KINDLING!"
"You are dodging ze question, mein friend."
*DT huffs and lowers his head.*
"I haven’t had a violent, angry episode since I went through that phase in 2005 and 6. And it basically stalled my XHF Career. I am older and wiser, now. You don’t need to worry, and besides I would never strike a non-wrestler!"
"Und who are you trying to convince, ya? Yourself?"
*DT looks incredulous.*
"No! HER! SHE is the one having the issue. Mistress and I have never been happier! Even if we weren’t, most ACTUAL marriage counselors would a) see that this is technically still the honeymoon phase and b) understand the one with the problem is our MANAGER and maybe we should go to professional counseling instead of this."
*He points at Chaos who looks aghast at this accusation*
"I am doing what is best for this team. If you are to keep your titles against the violent, rage filled Cables, you need to be on your best. And working as a fluid unit!"
"Ah, yes, such rage. It’s all these coffee enemas and beer bongs these boomers are used to."
"Yeah I … wait, what?"
*The camera spins around to show the “doctor” is actually Chaos’s teenage daughter typing into a text to speech program on the computer. She looks at her mother as 6 eyes land right on her. She shrugs.*
"Google?"
"A real therapist would have done their homework …"
*Sarah types into the computer*
"HURTFUL!"
*Mistress sighs and stands up, she grabs her coat and walks to the door.*
"Where are you going my mistress?"
"My time would be better spent on a self-help book."
"What does it say about survivor’s guilt and unnatural disasters?"
"Or perhaps a book on the effects of fire and forced homelessness on the stability of families."
*DT is now marching towards the camera*
"Look, I’m not here to compare apples to oranges. I am here to put on a show for this crowd. I’ll be the first to tell you, I am no therapist. I am a wrestler. I am a technician. I am a ring wizard. It doesn’t matter to me how many accolades you’ve won in Kira’s pain playground. It doesn’t matter how well you think you work together. Mistress and I are artists, and you are our canvas. At Supremacy, let’s make sure the best team wins. This is past the time for therapy and conversations. It’s time to put the rubber to the road and see if you have what it takes to make your opportunity count. I can promise you one thing though. You won’t have to worry about nightmares and visions haunting your waking moments. Because I have a million ways to put you to sleep. You guys are good, but I’m a master. And we are the top of the class. We will run through right to the rumble and hit 1 year with these titles. Zoran’s time may be slowly coming to a close. But I am far from ready to burn out!"
*From off camera we hear*
"PHRASING!"
"INSENSITIVE!"
"… *sigh* … I miss the days when I could close this out with a catchphrase and still be taken seriously. It was a simpler time …"
*Fade out*
