We find the young El Rey once again in the gym. This time instead of stabbing a heavy bag he’s using the equipment the way it was intended by punching the speed bag. Much like last time we found El Rey here we hear a door open from off screen. This time, though, El Rey does not stop at the entrance of his dad. He continues and without looking says.
El Rey: Here to tell me who my next opponent is?
Venom walks into screen and grabs the speed bag stopping his son.
Venom: Yes, actually.
El Rey: Of course you are. Why would you be here to congratulate me on my big Supremacy win.
Venom: Of course I’m happy…
El Rey: Forget it. Too late.
Venom: To congratulate you?
El Rey: That and your opponent. While you were busy trying to make me jump through hoops, I went to Magnus and grabbed my own brass ring.
Venom: What?
El Rey: This Gun Show I won’t be running your “Junior Heavyweight Gauntlet.” No, I’ll be going after the bigger prize of XHF Junior Heavyweight Championship. So your little gauntlet will have to skip a week because I’m looking at the bigger prize.
Venom: Why would you do that?
El Rey: Because I don’t have to play games to get this shot, and I know who I’m going to face. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got training.
El Rey grabs the speed bag out of his dads hands and continues going back to work ignoring his fathers interruptions as we fade.
Congratulations Eron.
You’ve been a solid Junior Heavyweight Champion.
You’re having a run only rivaled by the recent runs of Bloodied Fox and Nelly Angel.
Bravo, you’ve etched your name in history as one of the best Junior Heavyweights of this era.
You’ve managed to make people notice Wrestle: UK which is a huge feat considering the severe lack of talent there.
There’s only one problem with your reign Eron. No one will remember it.
Not because people don’t care about the Junior Heavyweight Title. Not because you didn’t defend at big events. No, it’s because of you Eron.
You’re just so damn boring.
If you were an ice cream flavor you’d be vanilla.
Not French vanilla.
Not vanilla bean.
No chocolate dip.
Just plain ass vanilla.
No flavor, nothing exciting, just plain.
That’s you in a nutshell Eron, except nuts would probably spice you up too much.
The fans of the XHF don’t have to fear, though, because I am here now and I’m ready to spice this Division up a little bit.
Oh, pardon me. I just realized I haven’t introduced myself have I?
My name is El Rey. I’m a third generation prodigy in this business. I’m the 20-year-old phenomenon that already has a X*Crown Championship reign on my list of accomplishments. I’ve beaten the likes of Dylan Black, Zoran Sainovic, and Spike Kane, twice. I’ve already main evented more Network global events in my two and a half years than you ever will.
And I, unlike you, will bring a little spice to this division when that title is draped over my shoulder. Because, again, unlike you, I’m not as boring as 24 hours of c-span. I can do anything, say anything, and even stab anything at a moments notice. I keep people on their toes, and that’s why I am exactly what this division needs.
Don’t feel bad, though. You’ve done a fine job. It’s not your fault that you’re about as spicy as plain tofu. It’s gotta be something in your upbringing. No one is that lame without help.
So who was it Eron?
Your Mom?
Your Dad?
Tell me Eron, who made you like this? How did you go through life and end up as plain as a white t-shirt?
You know what Eron, it doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t matter because once I’m done with you, no one will have to sit through your monotonous promos or you’re simple wrestling when they watch the Junior Heavyweight division ever again.
Because I am El Rey, and I’m here to spice up the division once and for all.
Breakfast time at the Venom residence. The young El Rey sits at the table eating his Wheaties. He looks up from his bowl of cold cereal and rolls his eyes at the sight of the camera. He returns to his cold breakfast when we hear a voice from off camera.
Venom: Up early huh? At least you’re taking this match you weaseled yourself into seriously.
El Rey takes a deep breath and drops his spoon in his bowl. He cocks his head sideways and looks at his dad across the kitchen and says.
El Rey: I know you don’t think much of me in my career in the Network. Maybe you’re just being hard on me because you think that’s what I need. I don’t know, I’m not a psychiatrist, but always take my matches seriously. Just because I don’t wear the seriousness on my face like Lance Storm, Scorpion, or Eron Hunter doesn’t mean I’m not serious about my work.
Venom: Fine, I’m sorry. I’m glad you’re working hard…eating cereal.
El Rey pushes his bowl away and grunts in anger.
El Rey: You think I just wake up early to eat Wheaties? No dad. This is my post work out meal. I’ve been up for hours. Jogging, stairs, all the stuff I did for years when I was either playing baseball or wrestling year round. You’d know about all that if you were here. Instead you were off helping the Network get started because that was more important than what I was doing.
Venom: I’m sorr…
El Rey: No, stop. I don’t need to hear it. I already forgave you for that, but you just can’t seem to change how you see me. You still see me ask the pre pubescent kid who didn’t want to run at baseball practice. News flash dad, I’ve grown up. I got myself in this business. I’ve had success in this business. And did you help me with it? No. But now you’re here trying to make me “earn” your old title. I’ve already earned bigger than your old title. I won the X*Crown dad. I outsmarted some of the best wrestlers in the Network defending the X*Crown. I don’t deserve your second hand Junior Heavyweight Championship, I deserve the real deal. That’s why I went around you and I will continue to go around you.
Venom: Look, I’m not trying to upset you.
El Rey: You don’t have to try. You just do it by being you. If you want to make up for it you’ll stop trying to change me and let me be me. Instead of trying to warn me about this guy and that guy and telling me how to go about this business you’ll show up and cheer me on like mom does. She may always be on her phone, but at least she’s there and supportive. That’s more than I can say for you.
Venom: I just…
El Rey: I don’t need to hear anymore. You want to make it up to me, show me in your actions.
With that El Rey exits leaving his Wheaties half eaten on the breakfast bar. He walks passed his dad without saying another word. Venom stands there with his mouth agape as we fade to black.
