Mongo the Destroyer, Kira Izumi, and 3 more like this

Frankly I'm surprised it's taken us this long to have a real one-on-one match. The Prodigal Son of the Icons versus the Icon That Never Was. It's a match you've wanted for years and I have to echo that sentiment. Some might say we've had very similar trajectories since joining the XHF in late 2017. We both started off as small fish in massive ponds and found great enemies who beat us at every turn. We spent years honing our craft until 2020 we really kicked things off. You started the year as X*Crown Champion, and I ended it as X*Crown Champion. A defining moment for the two of us, because when we joined the Network it was largely dominated by the likes of Bobby, Jack, Seth, Card, and Caffrey. The powers that be smiled at us when Rocco Rose was injured and the regular Christmas gauntlet match became a winner-faces-the-X*Crown Champion match. You were able to sweep the match and faced Bobby in the main event, earning the highest honor in our network.
And for all of thirty-six days, you were the top dog in town. You beat one of the most self-absorbed twats in all of Canada. But your well ran dry at Supremacy and you fell to the Final Boss. So ends the tale of the Mercenary.
He shrugs.
For two hundred and seventeen days our story takes a detour as Zoran, Caffrey, Death Trap, and Rob Arnold all take turns scrambling to be the best of the best. On August 30th, 2020, just hours before my birthday in Wellington, New Zealand, I put down Rob Arnold with a hole in my lung. I had yearned for the X*Crown for years and now I had it! There was a great deal of maturity I gained and respect I earned from beating Rob and I knew that with the X*Crown in my hands, I had to set an example. I had to raise the bar for future X*Crown holders, bring it higher than it'd ever been. I took that brass ring and I ran with it! You can ask anyone, hell ask Mongo who the best X*Crown Champion was. Mongo acknowledges me! And even after I lost the X*Crown, the second time, I remained a prominent face on the Network. I never shied away from a challenge. I never ran from an opponent. I ran my mouth and my jaw cashed those checks.
So let me ask you, Jay.
What the fuck have you done to earn an X*Crown Championship match?
You even said it yourself when laying down the challenge. No credential way of being a worthy challenger. Now don't take this as me discrediting your athleticism or accomplishments. I honestly think you and I have done more around the business these last few years than Bobby and Jack did for all their years. They built the ring so we could wrestle in it. And for all we know, after you lose? You'll just retire. Or take an out-of-XHF excursion. Or pause your in-ring career to focus on IPW. Really sorry I missed out on Adrenaline 14 by the way. Wanted to come run my mouth on you but it seems you have a waiting list of people who want to do the same and frankly? I ran the circuit in Europe for two years while you barely sold out shows, drowning in the Federation.
Stern nod.
But whatever, so you're sacrificing the Victory Pro World Championship to see how you stack up against the Pillar of XHF. Why now? Zoran was on a crusade to become the person who adds the most titles to the X*Crown and he beat you to end your reign three years ago. If you ask me, the story writes itself. But you waited it out, perhaps out of fear of Zoran. Or because you were hoping for the momentum of a big win in your sails? It's a shame you lost to Jack man. Came up short... just like you always do. All that hype before you won and you dropped the ball like usual. How does someone do into a match like that and get pinned twice?
Beat. Dylan wants that one to stew and sinks in. He unclasps the X*Crown from his waist and looks upon his most treasured possession. He tosses it over his shoulder, the center plate shining for the camera.
What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind Jason?
The kind that gets you admission to everyone's wrestling Mount Rushmore?
Or the kind that gets you blackballed from the big network stadiums to the bingo halls? Leaving you begging for people to buy autographs at conventions?
Because as far as anyone should be concerned you are to the Icons what Virgil was to the Million Dollar Corporation.
But it seems the legacy you wish to craft is one where the X*Crown feels like a secondary prize to the TAPOUT you spectacularly failed to win. I have no beef with TAPOUT but with that kind of logic you would undermine the X*Crown, you'd undermine the TAPOUT Title. In some ways, I respect the depths you're trying to reach to get one over on Mongo but the X*Crown...
He puts a hand over the center plate.
I worked hard for years to become the X*Crown Champion and even longer to hold myself to the standards set by former champions. To RAISE THE BAR so future champions had someone to aspire to be better than. To let you win the X*Crown and bring it somewhere where a guy like Poena is a credible challenger to the X*Crown?
Dylan leans forward.
I cannot let that happen Maverick. That'd undermine the legacy I've built! When I retire from this business, firstly I'll stay retired. Because the legacy of being the greatest wrestler to ever hold the X*Crown is a burden that my shoulders can withstand. But my legacy is going to encompass far more than that. Because when I lose the X*Crown, I'm not cocky I know it'll come just not against you. When I lose, I'm going to find my way to kicking LA Wombat's ass, again, not on live TV to get the Phoenix Championship. After that, I'll try my hand at Crusierfest again. Maybe this time I'll win and become the Junior Heavyweight Champion. I will become Mr. XHF Network by winning EVERY championship. Just like Harry before me. And I'll sit on my throne as the Undisputed Icon, the greatest wrestler in XHF History.
Dylan smirks.
And don't worry, there's a place for you and the Icons under my legacy. All of the defining moments had Icons involved. Winning the Tag Team Championships, Call to Arms, The Rumble, fighting Jack in the semi-finals of End of Days. It is without a doubt that The Icons will go down as one of the greatest stables in XHF Network history. I can't dispute that, even if I wanted to. And I'm sure Jack and Bobby love you like a little brother, you are their favorite third gear in the Icon Machine. But deep down? We all know I'm the third Icon they always wanted.
Even as an honorary Icon, I pulled more weight for the group than you. Thus rendering your legacy to forever be known as The Icon that Never Could.
Fin.
