INT. INTERVIEW AREA IN A WUK ARENA
JEREMY TUCKER is sitting in a chair to the left of the screen while two chairs remain empty to his right.
TUCKER
Folks, we have a lot of big matches scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day Massacre. One of them is the British TV Title match between champion, Kalmin Watts and challenger, Frank Windsor. Joining me today is Kalmin Watts and his manager, Anthony Jordan.
KALMIN WATTS and ANTHONY JORDAN enter from the right. Watts is carrying the British TV Title over his shoulder. Each man shakes hands with Tucker, then takes a seat.
TUCKER
Kalmin, Frank Windsor has been critical of you as a competitor. How do you respond to him?
WATTS
Let me start by saying that when I criticized Frank Windsor, it was in response to the attitude he has shown the world. I never attacked Frank Windsor’s talent or fitness because I can’t. I think he can do some good stuff in the ring. I’ve spoken to trainers who say he can get pretty close to my maxes on things like bench presses and squats. That’s impressive considering I got 30 or 40 pounds on the guy. The Bradford Bomb would be impossible for a lot of guys to use on bigger competition. I think Frank could lift me up for it. That part of Frank Windsor is impressive. He’s also a great showman. That matters in professional wrestling. I respect those aspects of Frank Windsor. It’s the rest of him that I dislike. He doesn’t let his talent speak for itself. He takes shortcuts. He cheats. That doesn’t belong in the sport.
TUCKER
What about his claims of taking the title back to Britain?
WATTS
By “taking back to Britain” he means using it to decorate his car. Does he care about what the British people think? Are they any more honored by having an actual Brit hold the belt, but act disrespectfully toward it? If Frank is caught up on semantics, then what does he think about the Wrestle:UK World Title? He invented a reason to be mad for reasons only he understands.
JORDAN
(scoffing) “Bringing it back to York-shy-err”. That is his big threat? That is the war slogan? Okay, Pudding Man. (sardonically) I am sure his brothers in the Pudding Gang patted his back over that one.
TUCKER
Pudding?
JORDAN
Yeah, York-shy-err pudding. Would you prefer I call him the Terrier Man? He is prissy and high-maintenance, after all.
TUCKER
And by “Pudding Gang” I’m sure you mean the Bastards. On that subject, Kalmin also criticized his numerous allies such as Billy Fowler, Rob Riot, Sean Bean, and Finn Corbyn. It could be pointed out that your manager comes to ringside, too. How do you address that?
WATTS
I don’t have a problem with people at ringside. I have a problem with people interfering in the match. None of them sit to the side and let the match happen. My manager never gets involved in my matches. I also want to say that I know my manager has my best interests at heart.
(beat)
Since we’re talking about the Bastards, I have some thoughts about them.
TUCKER
Please, go ahead.
WATTS
Friends have your back. While Anthony Jordan is my manager, I consider him my friend. Who are Frank WIndsor’s friends? They’re men who would step over him to get whatever they wanted, and Frank Windsor would do the same to them. If he’s not looking over his shoulder, he’s scheming. If Frank lets himself be distracted against me, he’ll be tapping out to the Sooner Squeeze real fast.
JORDAN
Let me build on that. Why is Rob Riot in the Chamber? A couple of weeks back the company published a ranking of top contenders, and he was not in the top five. Can you understand why?
TUCKER
I never really sat down and examined it. I suppose it is unusual.
JORDAN
No one knows how he got there. Rob Riot said it himself. He has goals, and he will do what it takes to achieve. As a tear was in Fowler’s eye at the thought of going to war against his brother, Riot, with a stone face, said he was better than Fowler and would win. Frank Windsor, if you think he does not see the same thing when he looks at you, you have another think coming!
TUCKER
To be fair, Riot did soften his stance later.
WATTS
Which is a Bastard thing to do. He realized someone would pick up on what he meant, so he backstepped. He said it. Own it! Be a man!
JORDAN
So Rob Riot thinks he will win the World Heavyweight, and maybe he will. He still has to defend the Commonwealth Title against Frank Windsor. I can see old Rob, if Frank wins Kalmin’s title, working Frank to get a title-for-title match. This sounds like a power play to me.
WATTS
Sounds like a Bastard thing to do. That’s what all of this is about. Frank Windsor, you don’t make good choices. You chose friends that will either stab you in the back or you will betray them first. That’s your problem.
(beat)
The worst choice you made was choosing to make our match personal! I was coming to Belfast to wrestle, but now I’m coming to Belfast to fight! You think you hate America now? Wait until this big 260 pound Oklahoman knocks your teeth down your throat!
Watts stands up and tosses his chair away. He holds the belt out toward the camera as the stares through the lens.
WATTS
Frank Windsor, you will be hurting after our match, and it won’t just be broken bones or a collapsed lung or some missing teeth. No, what’s gonna hurt the most is when you look up at the mat and see THIS SOONER still holding the WUK British TV Title!
Watts slings the belt over his shoulder and walks away as we go to black.
